Optronics BUL78 Series LED Utility Light Dimensions

Sonically Sealed, Waterproof Trailer Light

The waterproof construction of this light makes it ideal for use on trailers that may be submerged, like a boat trailer. The housing and lens are sonically sealed together to create a single unit, which means that water will not get into the light and damage the diodes or circuit board.

Raw Lumens vs. Effective Lumens

Lumens are used to measure the amount of usable light that is put out by a light source. Raw lumens represent the number of lumens that the manufacturer claims the LEDs are capable of producing. It does not include the light's drive method or the amount of light lost from the lens or reflector. Effective lumens take these factors into account and represent the number of lumens that are actually produced by the complete light assembly, not just the amount of light that the diodes are capable of producing. This light has a 700 raw lumen capacity and produces 490 effective lumens.

Excellent!

After a long while of
trying to find a comparable replacement on that A site, I found etrailer.com. They had an exact match to the light that was originally on my trailer. The installation was simple and now I have two matching lights again and one neither is flooded with water.

Unfortunately, the new light has leaked and now has water in it. Otherwise it seems to be doing well.

by:

was looking for small back up lights- water tight for boat trailer- these should fit the bill. excellent ordering and email status and delivery- I'll be ordering again if I need anything else. thanks

by:

I attached two of these clear utility lights to each aft side of my boat trailer. They are wired to the backup lights on the truck. This gives me excellent lighting when backing down my curving driveway. Clear utility lights are much brighter than regular backup lights and allow me to see the driveway even on the darkest nights.

Lights work great! They have made backing up a long dark driveway much easier. Now I have plenty of light on each side of my boat trailer. Slim profile and water proof just right for a boat trailer.

by:

These illuminate adequately for what I purchased them for. Brighter would be better but they help take some of the guesswork out of backing up in the dark. I’d say they light up as well as my truck’s reverse lights. These are mounted on our 20’ boat trailer.

I am still happy with this purchase and would recommend it to future buyers.

by:

I mounted the lights on the rear bumper of my travel trailer. I ran the wire into a storage compartment that had 12VDC. I connected to the power and added a rocker switch. The lights are very bright and the price was good. Can't wait to go camping and put these lights to work. I added a voice activated remote control: when backing up, I yell out the window "Hey Honey, go turn on the backup lights". Hasn't worked yet.

by:

These I think are going to work awesome. Haven't tested it in the water yet, but as far as brightness these will light up the darkest boat ramp. Installed on the back of boat trailer for night time launch/load, and wired into my reverse lights. Highly recommend if your looking for a great backup light.

by:

I just installed them on my Freightliner MDT as backup lights. Installed 4 of these. They work just as they should. The hole pattern was exactly the same as with the old lights.

by:

These are very good lights. I just mounted a pair of these below my brake/turn lights on my enclosed trailer, and they work very well. Now I'll be able see when parking the trailer at night, and people will actually know I'm trying to back up now.

by:

World class lights. Waterproof and bright!! Will buy again for sure. 4 screws and one hole for wires. My application is back up lights for a trailer.

by:

Good unit for the money and purpose served (reverse light on ATV). Lighting was good as well - as bright as I wanted.

by:

Great reverse light.... really bright and easy to mount and wire for the do it yourselfers.

by:

This was so easy, and the prices beat all! thank you so much. oh and delivery was next day.

by:

These are great lights. I bought two of them to use as reverse lights on my boat trailer. They light up bright and allow me to see behind the trailer. I liked them so much I bought three more use as a side marker light and two for cabin lights on the boat. Shipping was nice and fast as well. Thanks etrailer.

Adrian,I too just installed a set of these as reverse lights on my 5x8 utility trailer, based on your input. Thanks, they work great.I ordered these with grommets no need with the flange and the brackets to mount them to. I had to do some minor drilling to have the holes mate but that was no problem.I fished my wiring through the manufacturers existing routes and tapped into my reverse lights, attaching them with a Hopkins 4 Flat extension that I cut in half.Im in business!

by:

Sales person Bailey was very polite, and kept me informed on tracking and arrival will be doing business with your company in the future.

by:

Good and bright. Makes backing up a trailer at night much easier.

1 year later and no complaints.

by:

I got these for my trailer for when I am backing down the ramp in the dark and for putting the boat away at home where I don’t have any lights in the carport. Man are these bright and do the job. It lights up the area behind me and I never have to worry about hitting anything while backing down or putting the boat to bed. If you’re tired of not having enough light on your boat trailer look no further.

As for usage, I have had these on for a year now without any issues whatsoever. Also, I take the boat out at least twice a week during the winter and several times a week spring through fall so they get lots of use.

by:

Works good, and is decently bright for a back up light. Like the two wire design and flange mounting. Put it on a boat trailer for back up lights. Did add extra sealant around the flange to clear lens, just to help the factory plastic welded connection. Have had no issues so far.

by:

I'll give it 5 stars if it wasn't for the long time before shipping...very happy with product, installed four in my horse trailer and make a huge difference. Also installed 6-1/2" Oval LED Trailer Utility Light, Flange Mount, 10 Super Diode - Clear - BUL78CB in back of trailer for safe night horse loading/unloading. see before and after pics

They work great as back up lights for My Polaris Crew

by:

Wanted this light as a 12 volt light in our ice fishing shanty. Works very well, gives off a lot of light and because it is LED it uses very little power. Have had it on for 6 hours at a time and it continues to work very well. It does produce a somewhat straight lite beam so I mounted it on the top corner of the wall/ceiling pointing across the shack and it lights the room well, would work well as it was designed for a vehicle. It is our only light in a 8x12 room.

by:

Bright lights. Added these to my Utility trailer to help with backing into my driveway at night, and to have reverse lights on the trailer. Easy to install. Had to change out the 4 pin plug and wiring on the trailer to the 5 pin and 6 wire. The hardest part was pulling the new 6 wire cord through the frame, much thicker than the 4 wire cord. Take your time and it pulls through just fine.

by:

Sorry no pictures. I'm on the road. Will send soon. Installed on my Motorhome. Mounted two on each side close to axles so I can see tires when pulling into campgrounds. One at the back to assist in unhooking tow vehicle and one over windshield to see low hanging branches. Works like a dream. Will be adding more to help me see. I wired them into my cargo light circuit so I just flip my dash switch and light up the highway while driving. Sweet.

by:

Product is of good quality, and the lights are quite bright. I like that the housing is plastic, we are in the Northeast, and these lights will see a considerable amount of salt. We will see if the wiring holds up to the road salt!

Tom R.

They made it through an Upstate New York winter mounted on the bottom of a fire truck, no problems at all!

by:

I am very pleased with both of the lights that I purchased. they were back ordered but worth waiting for once they arrived. I installed the brake / taillights today and as I mentioned they are great.
I will install the utility lights in two weeks

by:

Great lights, installed four on an enclosed trailer for backup lights. Easy to install and really bright. Probably could have used just two, but with four there will be no problems seeing where I'm backing.

  • How Does Trailer with 7-Way Wire to Reverse Lights

  • Troubleshooting Utility Trailer Lights not Working When Hitched to Tow Vehicle
If your trailer lights are not working when you are hitched to your tow vehicle but are otherwise fine you have a ground problem most likely. Check your grounds to make sure your they are attached to bare metal surfaces and free of any paint, dirt or corrosion. It is also possible that you have a problem with a bare wire touching the frame somewhere on your trailer so check your wiring thoroughly to make sure there are no broken wires. • Is the Sealed, 6-1/2" Oval LED Trailer Utility Light # BUL78CB SAE Rated
The Sealed, 6-1/2" Oval LED Trailer Utility Light # BUL78CB is intended to be used as a utility light and is not rated or certified to be used as a reverse light or anything else DOT related. This would be a great light to light up the interior of an enclosed trailer or if you needed to light up an area on the exterior of your trailer at night. As far as DOT or SAE is concerned it has no specific ratings since it's not designed for taillight signal use. I attached a review video for this...

I attached a review video for more info. There are no DOT standards that dictate that a reverse light has to be at least a certain brightness so it's hard to say for certain if this light would be brighter than any DOT reverse light. But considering how bright this light is I would imagine it is much brighter than...
