Video Transcript for Review of Hopkins Wiring - Wire Loom - 39035

Jeff: Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a look at this Hopkins, 10-foot long, three- eighths-inch diameter wire loom. Now this is a split, convoluted three-eighths-inch diameter wire loom that'll easily slip over your wiring and protect it from any damage or the elements. It has a nice plastic sheathing. And if you notice it is split down the whole 10-foot length of the loom.

It has an inner-dimension of three-eights of an inch, outside dimension of a half an inch. And I just wanted to show you what you would use this for. Here's an example of a plug that would plug into a light on your trailer, and then you'll have your wiring come out of that. So if you want to protect that wiring, what you can do is just find the split portion, and then just go ahead and insert your wiring all the way into that split portion. And you could go as far as you want, you can go the whole length of wire, or you can just go part of the way and you can see once you get it in there, it'll protect the wiring, the section you need it to. And again, if you have to go more just to go ahead and pry it apart, and then just slide your wiring in there.

And again, that goes all down your wiring to protect from any damage. But that should do it for the review on this Hopkins, 10-foot long, three-eighths-inch diameter wire loom.

So in short i don't mind doing a tutorial or review but i wanted to share that my install isn't a follow along with how you guys did yours. I have the duo staynplay brake system along with the cut-a-wire tail light setup and the blue ox baseplate-less bar. I had the demco duo from my previous install on a wrangler. Sold the wrangler. Kept the demco brake system. So where my install differs is in the duo system. I researched the radiator shroud install location and found it to be asking for trouble. In short i took the demco apart and mounted the air pump, distribution valve and 12v relay on an aluminum bracket that attaches on the shock tower. The controller box mounts to the inner fender. The only components that go inside the cabin is the hose and the brake pedal servo. If you guys still want the photos even tho this is probably not what the average RV owner will follow installation wise, I'll understand.

Great for organizing wires. Good quality loom with split to help make the installation easy. The split stays closed but I also periodically wrapped it along the length with cable ties and to attach it to structure to make a neat install. I keep a stash in different sizes so I always have something on hand for various wiring projects.

One year ago, I installed the wire loom to contain and protect the trailer light wires on my newly restored 1969 boat trailer. They provide a professional finished look to the wiring job. They were easily installed from connector and down the frame. I would recommend and purchase again.

What can I say...it’s a wire loom. Does what it’s supposed to do. Seems to have held up just fine. The trailer I used it on is stored inside so I cannot speak to UV resistance.

I can only really say that this wire loom does its intended job. Keep in mind, if you intend to put more than 3 wires in it or hope to fit wire splices into it, size up to a bigger diameter. I used a closed end socket wrench to force the wire into the split as the loom was pretty stiff

Excellent item. I just thought the price was a little high for the guage wire you get with the harness. I definetly like the idea of not having to run wires over the top of the car. Watch the you tube video to get how to route the wires to keep them away from any moving parts. Also order 35 ft of 3/8' wire loom item # 39035 to help protect the wires. Installed this item on a 2014 Honda CR-v EX. Very east to install.

Kip, thank you for your review. If you are looking for a larger diameter wire loom I recommend part # 459075-1
Wire Loom, 1/2" Diameter (per Foot)
$2.69
. This wire look is 1/2 which is the size we normally use on our installs. This is sold by the foot, to get the length you need.

  • Wire Loom Clamp To Use with Wire Loom, 3/8" Diameter 39035
The outer diameter of the 3/8 inch inner diameter wire loom part # 39035 that you referenced is 1/2 inch. So for clamps you'd want the 1/2 inch clamps part # A0500.

  • Recommended Wiring Junction Box For Utility Trailer
If you are wanting to secure the wiring on your trailer and keep it secure I recommend using a wiring junction box like part # 38656 on your trailer. You can place the junction box on the tongue of your trailer and run the wires from the trailer into one side of the box and on to the terminals. Then attach the trailer connector with wires cut to the appropriate length to the matching wires on the terminals inside the box and extend it so you can attach it to your vehicle. You want...

  • What Size Clamp to Use for 3/8" and 1/2" Size Wire Loom
You should be able to use the same size clip as the inner diameter of the wire loom. For example, the 3/8" Diameter Wire Loom # 39035 has grooves in it that would allow you to use a 3/8" inner diameter clamp. Same thing goes for the 1/2" Wire Loom # 459075-1 or # 459075.

  • What is the Inside Dimension of Hopkins 3/8 Inch Wire Loom and is it Split Down One Side
I went out to the warehouse and pulled a Hopkins Wire Loom, # 39035, to take some measurements for you. The 3/8 inch diameter is the inside diameter of the loom. And it is already split the entire 10 foot length of the loom so you would not have to fish wires through it.

  • What Gauge Wire Can the 3/8 Inch Wire Loom Hold?
3 gauge wire is about 0.229 inches in diameter, so Wire Loom 3/8" Diameter like # 39035 will give it enough space for safety without further restricting the wire for heat dispersion. It will also avoid pinching or crimping the wire. You can use the Metal Loom Clamp - 1/2" # A0500 to secure it if desired. Technically this loom could hold up to 00 gauge wire (0.365 inches diameter).

  • Parts Needed To Replace Trailer Wiring
When people replace wiring that is run inside a channel or frame they will attach the new wiring to the end of the wire they want to replace and pull it carefully from the other end. If you are unable to pull the wire, you can use a fish wire to try and run the wiring through the frame. This can be tough depending on the frame or channel. Another method is to run new wiring on the outside of the trailer frame. You can use a wire loom to protect the wires from being damaged. Or you cold...

If you needed less of expect that you might have other wiring to run with the existing wires, you can go to a 1/2 inch loom, sold in 1 foot increments, # 459075-1.

  • Tips for Routing a Power Wire from the Battery to Trunk for Trailer Wiring on a 2011 Buick Lacrosse
There are a few methods that people use when they need to run a power wire from the vehicle battery to the rear of the vehicle. One method involves routing the wire as much as possible through the frame. What you would need to do first is determine if the frame has a hole in which a wire can be run and if there is space enough for it. You would need a long rigid and skinny object, like a coat hanger to run through the frame, tie off the wire to it, and then pull it back through. This...

If you want a tight fit at the clamps you can use 3/4" x 60' Electrical Tape to close the loom at that location and make it your desired thickness for clamping.
