Video Transcript for Hopkins Wiring - Tools for Wiring - 39035 Review

Today we're going to review part number 39035. This is the Hopkin's Wire Loom. This is a split convoluted 3/8 inch diameter wire loom. Total length on this is about 10 feet. This is a plastic sheathing that will protect your wire from the elements. It does easily slip over the wires, and it is split down the length of the loom. What's nice about this, when you go to install it, here's an example of let's say, this is a plug that would be in the back of a light on a trailer, and you've got your exposed wires, you want to protect those wires.

What you can do, is just open this where it is split, go ahead and pull it open. Once you get it open far enough, you can put your wires in there, and you can split it down, see it does remain closed, but if you pull it open, you can put your wire in there as far as you need to, and then just go ahead and close the Wire Loom back over your wires. Once you run it the length of that . See if we can open this up to give you an idea. Open up a little bit more. There you go.

Once you put all your wires you want to put in there, and then just close that loom around them, you can see that it will protect those wires from getting any damage, or from the elements. Very simple system. That should do it for the review on part number 39035, the Hopkin's Wire Loom, 3/8 inch diameter, and 10 feet in length. .

Excellent item. I just thought the price was a little high for the guage wire you get with the harness. I definetly like the idea of not having to run wires over the top of the car. Watch the you tube video to get how to route the wires to keep them away from any moving parts. Also order 35 ft of 3/8' wire loom item # 39035 to help protect the wires. Installed this item on a 2014 Honda CR-v EX. Very east to install. 284671

Kip, thank you for your review. If you are looking for a larger diameter wire loom I recommend part # 459075-1
Wire Loom, 1/2" Diameter (per Foot)
$2.04
. This wire look is 1/2 which is the size we normally use on our installs. This is sold by the foot, to get the length you need.

Do you have a question about this Wiring?

  • Recommended Wishbone Wiring Harness to Rewire Trailer with Surge Brakes
  • Rewiring your trailer is something that you can absolutely do easily and there are harnesses called wishbone harnesses that don't require any wiring across the trailer frame. I recommend the 35 ft. Wishbone 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness with 42" Ground Wire # A35W42B. I've attached a review video as well as an installation video to assist. I've also attached an article on wiring to assist with diagrams. If you have the electric reverse lockout on your trailer coupler, you may want the...

  • What Gauge Wire Can the 3/8 Inch Wire Loom Hold?
  • 3 gauge wire is about 0.229 inches in diameter, so Wire Loom 3/8" Diameter like # 39035 will give it enough space for safety without further restricting the wire for heat dispersion. It will also avoid pinching or crimping the wire. You can use the Metal Loom Clamp - 1/2" # A0500 to secure it if desired. Technically this loom could hold up to 00 gauge wire (0.365 inches diameter).

  • Availability of Jacketed Wishbone 4-Pole Trailer Wiring Harness
  • We do offer 4-pole wishbone wiring harnesses like # A35W42B and jacketed 4-pole wire such as # DW04923-1. We do not have a jacketed wishbone 4-pole trailer harness but you can certainly provide protection to a 4-pole wishbone harness - and keep the ability to run the separate running light wires to each side of the trailer - by using wire loom like # 39035 which is sold in 10-foot lengths.

  • Tips for Routing a Power Wire from the Battery to Trunk for Trailer Wiring on a 2011 Buick Lacrosse
  • There are a few methods that people use when they need to run a power wire from the vehicle battery to the rear of the vehicle. One method involves routing the wire as much as possible through the frame. What you would need to do first is determine if the frame has a hole in which a wire can be run and if there is space enough for it. You would need a long rigid and skinny object, like a coat hanger to run through the frame, tie off the wire to it, and then pull it back through. This...

  • Compatibility Of 1/2 Inch Loom Clamps With 3/8 Inch Loom
  • Yes, you can use Metal Loom Clamp - 1/2" # A0500 with Wire Loom 3/8" Diameter # 39035. It will secure the loom to your frame but it will not clamp tightly around it. If you want a tight fit at the clamps you can use 3/4" x 60' Electrical Tape to close the loom at that location and make it your desired thickness for clamping. If you want a perfect fit, I recommend the Wire Loom, 1/2" Diameter (per Foot) # 459075-1.

  • What is the Best Size Wire Loom for Bonded 4 Wire and One 12 Gauge Wire
  • I would go with a 3/8 inch diameter, like # 39035. That should provide enough space for the wires and still give good coverage. This loom comes in a 10 foot length. If you needed less of expect that you might have other wiring to run with the existing wires, you can go to a 1/2 inch loom, sold in 1 foot increments, # 459075-1.

  • What Size Clamp to Use for 3/8" and 1/2" Size Wire Loom
  • You should be able to use the same size clip as the inner diameter of the wire loom. For example, the 3/8" Diameter Wire Loom # 39035 has grooves in it that would allow you to use a 3/8" inner diameter clamp. Same thing goes for the 1/2" Wire Loom # 459075-1 or # 459075.

Do note that all auto makers recommend not towing anything for the first few hundred miles on the car to allow for proper break-in without putting extra stress on the vehicle. Draw-Tite Class III hitch # 75237 is an excellent choice since it offers a 4500-lb capacity, providing a healthy safety margin. For a wiring harness part # 118498 is a fine...

  • Trailer Brake Controller Installation in 2014 Jeep Wrangler JK
  • Your 2014 Jeep Wrangler JK does not have a plug-in brake controller port under the dash so wiring in a controller like the Prodigy P3 # 90195 will require hardwiring. We offer a complete installation kit # ETBC7 that includes all the parts needed, including a 7-way. Although you have a 7-way socket now, its not a bad idea to have a spare on hand. • A junction box like the Spectro # 38656 is a perfect way to re-wire your tandem-axle car hauler. This box provides plenty of room inside its weather-proof housing to make all of your lighting, 12V and brake signal connections. Please refer to the linked video. We use this box on just about all of our in-house re-wiring jobs. • Recommended Wiring Junction Box For Utility Trailer
  • If you are wanting to secure the wiring on your trailer and keep it secure I recommend using a wiring junction box like part # 38656 on your trailer. You can place the junction box on the tongue of your trailer and run the wires from the trailer into one side of the box and on to the terminals. Then attach the trailer connector with wires cut to the appropriate length to the matching wires on the terminals inside the box and extend it so you can attach it to your vehicle. You want...

  • What is the Inside Dimension of Hopkins 3/8 Inch Wire Loom and is it Split Down One Side
  • I went out to the warehouse and pulled a Hopkins Wire Loom, # 39035, to take some measurements for you. The 3/8 inch diameter is the inside diameter of the loom. And it is already split the entire 10 foot length of the loom so you would not have to fish wires through it.

  • The 7-Way Super Sealed Connector w/7' Cable - Car End # 50-87-007 is a great cable but you are correct that you would need about 6 inches behind the connector for a hard turn in the cable. For your application, I recommend the 5th Wheel and Gooseneck 90-Degree Pigtail Harness w/ 7-Pole and Mounting Bracket - 7' Long # 51-97-407.
