Video Transcript for Curt Wiring - Trailer Connectors - C59496 Review

Speaker 1: Today, we're going to take a look at the Curt Upgraded Four-Way Flat Circuit-Protected Powered Light Tail Converter, with the hard wire kit and the circuit tester. Now this part will adapt separate turn and stop lights, which is a three-wire system, to a combined two-wire system on the trailer. It is designed to work with many domestic and import vehicles. What I would recommend is to go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year model vehicle, and it will show if this will work for your application. This will virtually eliminate draw on your vehicle tail-light circuit. It is a potted enclosure, which will resist water and vibration, protects against over-voltage, ESD, and short-circuits, and there's no heavy-duty flasher required. It is powered by the vehicle's battery.

It's circuit protected, does use surface-mount technology, and that's a method for constructing your electrical circuits, where components are mounted onto the surface of the printed circuit boards. This kit will work with vehicles that have LED tail lights and will work with trailers that have LED tail lights. It includes everything shown here on the table, a four-way powered tail light converter kit with all the installation hardware, nice set of detailed instructions on how to install everything. This section here is the powered converter wiring kit. This is the hard wire kit. This will provide the extra wire needed and the fuse holder, to be run to your vehicle's battery to power the lights on the trailer.

And it also comes with the circuit tester to test all the circuits on your installation.A few specs on this, the amperage is three amps per brake and turn circuit, and six amps for the tail light function circuit. But that should do it for the review on the Curt Upgraded Four-Way Flat Circuit-Protected Powered Tail Light Converter with the hard wire kit and the circuit tester.

converter and flat 4 wiring was fine. for my application, the green RH turn signal wire was over 2 feet too short to cross from one tail light to the other. really, add 3 ft to the wire, much less hassle. the power wire from battery to converter is ALSO TOO SHORT, by more than 5 feet. Since that part of the kit is really only the fuse holder and the wire, this was a waste of money. NOT AT ALL WHAT I WOULD CALL A UNIVERSAL FIT. 575011

Comments
This wiring harness part C59496 is considered a universal fit because it is not a plug and play custom fit application. It can be hardwired into many different vehicles. If you needed extra wire for your vehicle, I recommend part # DW02412-1

Contains all you need to make this work. Used it on my 2017 GLE350 that has LED tail lights using combined brake and signal lights. Figuring out the correct wires to connect to was a bit trial and error. Running the wire from the module to the fuse box below the rear passenger seat took some time as well. But the setup works without a problem. Wires: Brake (red): connect to ground. Lights (brown): right tail light, white with blue tracer. Right turn: right tail light, gray/black wire Left turn: left tail light, gray/black wire. Ground: at rear of the car, between tail light and spare wheel well. 12V power: below rear passenger seat, using the big screw connector/cable visible there. Good luck! 604471

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness for 2013 VW Jetta SportWagen
The EcoHitch # 306-X7284 is a great choice! In order to add wiring to tow your boat (those are really cool, by the way), you'll want to use the Tekonsha # 119179KIT which comes with a circuit protected Modu-Lite converter to help protect the electrical components on your vehicle. I recommend using the Tekonsha over the Curt # C59496 harnesses because the converter is a little bit more reliable and since you're likely going to have LED lights on your trailer, the slight difference in amp...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2019 Hyundai Tucson Ultimate
The trailer wiring harness I recommend for your 2019 Hyundai Tucson Ultimate is the Curt Upgraded Circuit Protected Powered Tail Light Converter part # C59496. This kit will work with LED tail lights so you should not have any concerns. It will splice into the tail light circuits on your vehicle and provide you with functions for a 4-way trailer connector. It also comes with all of the wiring connectors you will need as well. Unfortunately, there are no custom fit trailer wiring harnesses...

  • Can the 12 Volt Power Wire from a Trailer Wiring Harness Tap Into a 12 Volt Accessory Outlet
I strongly recommend running the 12 volt power wire from the Curt Wiring Harness, # C59496, directly to the vehicle battery. The 12 volt accessory circuit was not designed to support the additional load of a trailer wiring harness. A wiring harness must have its own dedicated circuit directly to the battery. We have seen many instances where customers have tapped into a 12 volt accessory circuit, like a car lighter socket, and the harness failed. We have also seen instances where the accessory...

The only time you will ground the red wire is if your Jeep JL is a 2-wire system. You can tell the difference by checking to see if the same circuits are used for both your stop and turn functions.
