Pro Series Weight Distribution diagram

Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight-distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight-Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight-distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight-distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight-distribution system.

Unique Features of Pro Series Round-Bar Weight Distribution

Pro Series Weight Distribution adjustable head from top and side

To adjust your weight-distribution head assembly to the correct angle, insert the included rivet and up to 8 washers into a 1/2-inch hole in the "U" on your head assembly. Use the smallest number of washers necessary to achieve the correct downward angle for the spring bars. Each washer lowers the chain ends of your spring bars by approximately 1-1/2 inches. Once the correct angle is reached, use the included bolts, serrated washers and nuts to lock the unit into place.

Pro Series Weight Distribution round spring bar locking devices

The round spring bars of this system slide up into the weight-distribution head and are secured with built-in, spring-bar locking devices for quick, easy installation. With a tapered design and forged steel construction, these bars flex to ensure a smooth, controlled ride for both your tow vehicle and your trailer.

Friction Sway Control

Pro Series Weight Distribution friction sway control installation on trailer framePro Series Weight Distribution friction sway control installation on hitch head

The integrated friction-style sway control of the Pro Series system reduces trailer sway caused by winds, winding roads and sudden maneuvers. As soon as your trailer begins to move out of line, the friction pads inside the unit touch one another and create resistance to help prevent further side-to-side movement. To install, simply bolt the sway-control ball plate to the A-frame of your trailer and attach the other end to the included ball, which mounts on the head of your weight-distribution hitch - drilling required. The ball plate mounts to the side of the trailer frame so it will not interfere with gas tanks, toolboxes or generators.

your set up looks a lot like mine. I have a 2004 GMC Yukon. I purchased a 27.5 foot trailer, is this what you are pulling as well? How does it do? How much does your trailer weigh?ThanksShane

Towed a sailboat (6000 lbs) on trailer (~1500 lbs) from Missouri to Colorado with a 1/2 Ton chevy pickup. Did great, no sway, no issues whatsoever. Installation was straightforward and done in the boat yard with limited tools without any trouble at all. We didn't put the boat on the trailer and had no opportunity to adjust the weight distribution. No problems at all. I definitely can recommend this hitch setup. 485181

Hauled a 10,000 pound 24' trailer with a 2015 Tundra CrewMax 4wd TRD from Virginia Beach, VA to Oak Harbor, WA in January. Made it without a single issue using this weight distributing hitch. No swing, 70 mph across Wyoming, across mountains and snow, blistering wind and rain. Couldn't have asked for an easier trip. Just make sure your trailer is loaded properly and distribute the weight to have the correct weight at the hitch. I had about 20%. 323036

The product is excellent as is the price point. The RV dealership wanted $475 for a model with a step down in features (no sway control). No complaints. I had it professionally installed and the installers had nothing negative to say about it and no trouble installing it at all. The product is well-designed and simple to use. I especially like the grease fittings and sealed pivot assembly for the weight distribution arms. I don't want to have to disassemble the entire hitch to get some "special grease" (sold separately, of course!) into hard to reach areas like some of the (popular brand) weight distribution hitches. And the 33" spring-arm length is perfect to hit the spot between the propane tanks and batteries on my TT's tongue. It's like they thought about who was going to use it when they designed it. I tow my 7,100lb travel trailer with a 2003 Chevy 2500HD using this hitch system, and it tows beautifully. I can handle turns at reasonable speeds without excessive lean, and the truck and trailer behave as a sturdy, manageable unit instead of two large, heavy items with a flimsy, uncontrolled pivot point between them. The product is important, but the best part was the transaction and experience with eTrailer. I've purchased from eTrailer a few times before and always had a good experience, but I could not remember my password. I called the toll-free number instead and spoke with Ashley, who never threw any roadblocks and was very helpful throughout the process, which was as quick and easy as I could hope for. She found my account, confirmed addresses and made necessary changes, and helped me to decide on the right product for the job. She was well-informed about eTrailer's offerings and how they are to be used. I got the free shipping, but of course I ordered at the last minute, so didn't really leave enough time to receive the product before I needed to use it. Without making any promises, Ashley seems to have made it her business to get the hitch shipped a day faster than usual, getting it to me just in time. Bravo, Ashley. I will continue doing business with eTrailer any time I need towing equipment of any kind. 364586

I bought this product about a year ago and am using it on a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pulling a 33 ft. Puma Travel Trailer. The max loaded weight of the camper is 8,000 lbs, which puts me right at the max gvw of the truck and trailer combined. I have pulled the camper with and without the weight distribution system attached and with and without the sway bar attached. They both make a huge difference in the handling and ride when towing the camper and I am super glad I bought it. It was recommended by the camper dealer, and I read all of the reviews, etc. I didn't understand the physics behind it all, but it really works great. Used an on-line video to help me get it installed (which was not a major ordeal, just have the right tools, etc. and be prepared to adjust it if necessary). I will eventually upgrade to a 2500 just for more towing power, but will probably put this system on that truck as well. Great product, well worth the cost. 384784

  • Why Can't You Back Up when Using Pro Series Weight Distribution System PS49903
It is the friction sway control bar in Pro Series Weight Distribution System w Friction Sway Control - Round - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW Item # PS49903 that will prevent backing up. The problem is that when backing up force is applied differently to the sway control bar so that when turning and backing up it can damage to it or the trailer. All you would have to do though is disengage the sway control bar when you are ready to back up. Weight distribution systems with friction sway...

If your trailer is brand new and recently purchased ideally you would return to the dealer to have the ramp corrected.
