Best Weight Distribution System For A 2020 R-Pod 195 Being Towed By A 2013 GMC Yukon Denali

Updated 08/27/2025 | Published 08/26/2025

Question:

I am looking a purchasing a 2020.5 R Pod 195. I to with a 2013 GMC Yukon Denali 6.2. I have seen pros and cons about using a weight distribution hitch on an R Pod. Is the Anderson Weight Distribution Hitch w/Sway Control a good choice. Should I use a 4 or 6 inch . If this is not a good choice for the R Pod what is. thank you

Hi Doug!

If you were just needing a weight distribution system for the sway control, I would have said the Andersen Weight Distribution Hitch w Sway Control - 6" Drop/Rise - 14K GTW, 1.4K TW # AN53VR could be a good option. However, I have tried one of these with my 16 Silverado 1500 and it didn't really do much of anything when trying to use it for actual weight distributing purposes.

With a 2020 R-Pod 195 weighing 4,762 pounds when fully loaded (this is the 3,587 dry weight plus the 1,175 carrying capacity) and tongue weight being 10% of the GVWR, you are looking at roughly 476 pounds of tongue weight. Your 2013 GMC Yukon Denali with the 6.2 V8 can handle up to 8,300 pounds towing, so that isn't an issue. However, your curb weight is going to be around 5,600 pounds. You really want a good system when the trailer you are pulling is 50% (or heavier) of the towing vehicle's curb weight. I don't think you will be happy with the Andersen.

I recommend one of the following systems:

Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control for 2" Hitch - 5.5K GTW, 550 lbs TW # BXW0556
Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution w/ 4-Point Sway Control - No Shank - 6,000 lbs GTW, 600 lbs TW # EQ37061ET
------Will need: Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank - 12" Long - 10" Rise, 6" Drop - 600 to 1,400 lbs TW # EQ90-02-4300

Your hitch sits pretty high, so both of these will handle 6 inches of drop to keep you level, and they have perfect tongue weight ranges (you want your loaded tongue weight to be as close to the middle of the systems capacities as possible). The Blue Ox will be the lesser expensive and easier to install option, but I stand by Equal-i-zer products. They started in the weight distribution business and that is almost all they do. It will take longer to set up and will be more expensive, but it is also the best option.

Have you set up a weight distribution system before?

Lazer, thank you for your advice. I have set up a weight distribution system in the past. It was a 30 ft TT towed with a Suburban. For the past 10 years I have towed an 2010 R Pod 173 without weight distribution and only a sway control. My greatest concern with the 195 is sway contron. thank you

@DougM Gotcha. I would go with Equal-i-zer route. It will have the best weight rating for your R-Pod, which will give you the best sway control, and since you have set up weight distribution before, it will make it easier with this one. Let me know if there is anything else you need!
