I have a 2026 Chevy Silverado 3500 Dually, I am trying to determine an appropriate hitch for a Brinkley Z Air 297 trailer.

Hey Michael! When you're choosing a weight distribution hitch the most important factor is the tongue weight of the trailer. It looks like the dry/unloaded tongue weight of a Brinkley Z Air 297 is 924 lbs. Once you add batteries and propane you will be up over 1,000 lbs before anything else is loaded in the trailer. Tongue weight is typically 10-15% of the loaded trailer weight. Looking at the GVWR of 13,495 lbs that could potentially get as high as 2,000 lbs but I expect you to be more in the 1,300 lb range.

Based on that information I recommend the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control for 2-1/2" Hitch # BLU54TR. This system is designed for a tongue weight range of 1,000-1,500 lbs. More than likely this will have you covered when you're empty or fully loaded. However, I do recommend measuring with a scale like # BW34KR or # BTBRV27FR just to be sure. You also need to account for anything in the truck bed behind your rear axle since that counts as tongue weight.

Thank you for the feedback, I do believe that answer applies to most people. I think with my setup, 1 Ton Dually truck, not so sure that weight distribution is an important factor with 5,500 pounds of cargo capacity on my truck. Was thinking a shocker hitch would be the right answer honestly.

@MichaelD sorry, hitch is a pretty broad term and since you were looking at weight distribution hitches I assumed that was what you were wanting. Although you can tow more, this is a pretty heavy travel trailer so it wouldn't be a bad idea to use one. I'm not sure what kind of rise/drop you need to sit level with that setup but you can use the Shocker HD Max Black Air Cushioned 2-Ball Mount - 2-1/2" Hitch - 4-1/2" Drop # SHK82GR or Shocker HD Max Black Super Drop Air Cushioned 2-Ball Mount - 2-1/2" - 8-1/2" Drop # SHK32GR if you just want a cushioned ball mount. The Shocker Impact Max Cushioned 2-Ball Mount w/ Sway Tabs # SHK49CR is another option if you want to add sway bars like # SHK27YR.

@MichaelD, you will really be glad that you bought a load distributing hitch, such as the Blue Ox, when you encounter cross-winds. I have a one ton single rear wheel long bed (2025 GMC 3500HD), and it too can handle plenty of weight, but the combination of shifting some weight to the steering axle and the sway control really makes towing life good! My Arctic Fox 27SX has a dry weight of 7,585 lbs., dry tongue weight of 1,185 lbs., and a GVWR of 13,000 lbs., so it is really close to the Brinkley you have. Trust me, you will be much happier with the Blue Ox that Robin suggested, and I agree that using a tongue weight scale is very helpful for one's sanity.

The Blue ox is a reactive WDH. Very easy hook up and weight distribution. Didn't work for me for sway control on my z air 310. The Equalizerhitch was a better fit. E trailer is my only goto for any towing needs, not Amazon.
