Pro Series Weight Distribution diagram

Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight-distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight-distribution system.

Unique Features of Pro Series Round-Bar Weight Distribution

Pro Series Weight Distribution adjustable head from top and side

To adjust your weight distribution head assembly to the correct angle, insert the included rivet and up to 8 washers into a 1/2-inch hole in the "U" on your head assembly. Use the smallest number of washers necessary to achieve the correct downward angle for the spring bars. Each washer lowers the chain ends of your spring bars by approximately 1-1/2 inches. Once the correct angle is reached, use the included bolts, serrated washers and nuts to lock the unit into place.

Pro Series Weight Distribution round spring bar locking devices

The round spring bars of this system slide up into the weight distribution head and are secured with built-in, spring-bar locking devices for quick, easy installation. With a tapered design and forged steel construction, these bars flex to ensure a smooth, controlled ride for both your tow vehicle and your trailer.

Friction Sway Control

Pro Series Weight Distribution friction sway control installation on trailer frame

Pro Series Weight Distribution friction sway control installation on hitch head

The integrated friction-style sway control of the Pro Series system reduces trailer sway caused by winds, winding roads and sudden maneuvers. As soon as your trailer begins to move out of line, the friction pads inside the unit touch one another and create resistance to help prevent further side-to-side movement. To install, simply bolt the sway-control ball plate to the A-frame of your trailer and attach the other end to the included ball, which mounts on the head of your weight distribution hitch - drilling required. The ball plate mounts to the side of the trailer frame so it will not interfere with gas tanks, toolboxes or generators.

Very good product and easy to install. My configuration allowed the lift brackets that came with the order to be used, so I didn't have to order the bracket kit. The installation videos on the e-trailer were excellent. Delivery was also prompt, only four days for me. My trailer only required a 2" ball rather than the 2 5/16" ball supplied. I had trouble finding a 2" ball locally with a 1 1/4" diameter shank. I ordered this from e-trailer and again delivery was prompt. I did have to buy some larger wrenches to work with the 2" nuts on the balls so keep that in mind if your a due-it-yourselfer. The manual was pretty good, but I got more out of the videos. I little more description on the initial setting of the friction sway control would have been helpful (i.e. is the factory setting midway? lowest? highest)? 267164

Having done extensive towing of all kinds of tongue pull trailers without one I was a bit skeptical about adding the weight distribution hitch to our new travel trailer. But I kept seeing the virtues of using a WDH on an online forum and bit the bullet after we purchased our new travel trailer last year. I would make this purchase again without hesitation. Installation was a piece of cake and took us about an hour start to finish from taking it out of the box to leveling the first time. My wife read the instructions and assisted while I did the majority of the assembly. At first we thought it might be difficult to hook-up every time we towed but now we have it down so it adds about 3-4 minutes to our hook-up/separation time. That minor addition of time to the hook-up/separation process is well worth the extra piece of mind we both get knowing the trailer is going to pull much more stable. We have spent the last year traveling the country covering 24,000+ miles in all kinds of conditions (wind, rain, bad roads, you name it) and will not tow without a WDH ever again. The difference we felt between the few times we towed before adding this hitch and after is unbelievable. Instead of the trailer being a separate vehicle doing its own thing behind us it feels like an extension of our tow vehicle. On several occasions we have encountered crosswinds that would have caused control problems (sway, rocking, bucking) without the hitch but it performed beautifully. I can feel the trailer "realigning" instantly with the truck when hit by even severe winds. On those bridges that cause severe bucking due to pavement joints the WDH suppresses the buck beautifully keeping the trailer under control. I used to hesitate when passing tractor-trailer rigs on the highway in windy conditions but this WDH makes it a piece of cake, there is no trailer jerk when we enter or break free of the wind wake. It also reduces the bounce in the trailer when on washboard highways. I could go on and on but will just say this. We don't leave without it!!! We tow a 2015 R-Pod 179 (3,400 GVW) with a 2014 Ram 1500 4X4. 242542

  • Which Pro Series Weight Distribution System for Trailer with Unloaded Tongue Weight 480 lb
Since your unloaded tongue weight is 480 lbs you'd pretty easily get over the 550 lb tongue weight capacity of the Pro Series WD system part # PS49901 which means you'd want the part # PS49902 instead which has a range of 550 to 750 lbs.
