Weight Distribution Diagram

Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight-distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight-Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight-distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight-distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight-distribution system.

Fastway e2 Sway Control

The two points of sway control within the e2 are created by the steel-on-steel friction that occurs when the spring bars slide within the L-brackets that are mounted on the trailer tongue. Most traditional weight-distribution systems have spring bars that are suspended by chains. Although this ensures that the system is not so rigid as to create bounce in the trailer, it also allows a good deal of side-to-side play in the system.

The direct friction that is applied to the spring bars in the e2 system helps to stop sway once it has begun. The concept is similar to the way in which an add-on friction sway control device functions. When each spring bar moves forward or backward, or side to side, it rubs along the bracket, creating friction. The resistance created by this action limits the movement of the spring bar, thus preventing further side-to-side movement of the trailer.

Most add-on units feature some sort of friction material similar to that used in automotive brakes. But the e2 uses direct steel-on-steel contact to create resistance. This is the same sort of friction that is used with locomotives that pull loaded railcars weighing tons. No additional materials are needed. The steel will outlast any of those other materials, providing an extremely durable, functional sway-control system.

I tried to buy a weight distribution hitch from mail order company and they sent me the wrong one twice. Twice. I shipped them both back (Pain in the butt) and ordered it from you guys for $15 more. It came not only Free Shipping, but correct and in two days!
You have me hooked!
Thanks! (I'm going on vacation with my family and needed this leveling hitch!)

I love it! I have owned 3 or 4 other leveling hitches in the last 20 years and this is the best one I have ever had. Easy to hook up and works like a charm!

by:

Great for safe towing! Use this on my flat bed racecar hauler, about 6k# total and my 1/2 ton Yukon feels like a 3/4 ton. Follow directions to setup properly and it feels great. Note that I had to put the car a few inches rearward after the hitch because of how it distributes the weight. Also for GM vehicles with stabilitrak, Puch the button and release once to turn off traction control, then hold it down until stabilitrak turns off or else it will disable itself and bark at you for half a dozen drives after the hitch is removed.

The price on this unit is a great price. I already had the setup for years when someone stole my snap up bar and one spring bar. Parts are out of stock and not coming in until 2022 (Nov. 2021 now) so we bought this set. The springs are just shorter than my last set, but snapped right in and work with full system. I feel like the snap up bar is shorter than my last bar. My last bar was solid and didn't break down, but I am guessing they replaced it with one that you can break in half. Otherwise, totally works. My springs were slightly used but after a single drive, I know it is going to rub off the paint anyway. They are better than my current rusted ones. I would give 5 stars because delivery was on time, all the stuffs were there and the price is great, but would give 4.5 stars for receiving used parts without that being in the description.

I have had this hitch/weight distribution setup for a year now and I am very pleased. The trailer hookup is a simple process and the trailer is level. The built in sway control seems to be doing the trick, no issues. I am pulling a 29' Nash 25c with a GVW of 8500 lbs with a 2012 Tundra Crewmax.

Already owned the 6,000lb E-2 system and have found it to be excellent. Traded in my travel trailer for a much larger one and thanks to the E-2 system only needed 10,000 shanks instead of a whole new system.

Ended up ordering the kit which included a second set of L Braces as I intend to buy a boat soon and this will allow me to switch trailers without switching out the hitch & stabilizing system.

I have found the E-2 system both easy to use and highly effective allowing tow speeds in excess of 70mph even in windy conditions without issue. It's so effective it's easy to forget you have a trailer behind the truck.

Highly recommend and the folks at E-Trailer were a great help as well as providing excellent pricing.

by:

Seems to work great. Have done a trial tow around the neighborhood. True test will be a real trip out of town.

Was pretty easy to set up. Do not tighten the mounting bolts to shank until after the setup height, angles, etc are set. The lock tight material in those belts makes is REALLY hard to undo them if you need to.

Bought this for a 4th Gen Ram 2500, to use with our travel trailer. I liked that i had to purchase the hitch shank separately, due to most WD hitches, dont come with the proper shank for taller trucks anyway. This is a great product, and was easy to install. Definitely helped with the sway. We didnt have much sag to start, due to the heavier truck. It did also take the small sag we had out completely. I would purchase again if needed.

by:

Got the hitch in 2 days, installed it via instructions and a few videos. No problems, works as advertised, usual awesomeness from etrailer.

Installed it on a 5K pound 27 foot travel trailer, hitch weight 550... towing with '07 Tundra, 5.7L, pulls like a champ.

The solution to dangerous issues. This system resolved many of my towing issues. I tow a food trailer. The hitch sagged and the lowered hitch raised the front end of my SUV. I also experienced sway and buffeting when tractor-trailers passed. Windy, wet nights and big trucks were white-knuckle drives. NO MORE.
Nobody does it better than etrailer! They answer their phone! They are truly knowledgeable about their products and care about their clients. My first call directed me to my precise options. I ordered it on-line and it arrived a day ahead of schedule. I watched their exceptional installation video three times before attempting installation. This is what sets ET apart. They did not have one video - they had two - one for a truck and one for an SUV / VAN. What was not covered in the videos was only a call away. PAY ATTENTION HERE: The rig uses a set of stacked-washers to adjust the "angle" of the hitch ball. The more washers you use - the greater the angle and the higher the tension of the torsion bar. If you begin with too many washers, you may find that after you use the provided torsion bar installer (a variant on a crow-bar) to install your torsion/control-bars. YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO GET THE BARS BACK OFF! That was my case. And if you cannot get the bars off - you cannot remove the tow vehicle. I had no idea how to release all of that pressure without potentially hurting myself. Ugh. ONE CALL - THAT'S ALL! A quick call to ET. The rep understood my problem but he also understood that mine was a dangerous issue and sought additional help internally. He came back with "...this is going to sound odd but trust me. Chock your wheels. Raise your tow vehicle from the center of the tow bar until you raise your rear wheels off of the ground and until you can move the bars manually (a light tap with a hammer is a good indicator as to whether you have relieved enough pressure by raising the tow vehicle). When you can swing the bars manually - swing them out and away from the trailer and if you swing them far enough toward the tow vehicle, they will simply fall out of their socket. (There is also a release tab you can pull out - but I prefer this method.) It WORKED!
Adjusting this type of system can be an arduous task that is well worth the effort and no company does a better job of selling, educating and servicing than ET. My local tow shop wanted to install a "chain" system without sway control and when I asked him what he thought of the "bar" systems - he said, "...hmm, I've never seen those before". Go with the experts and your own mechanical expertise. ET has your back.

Installed the Fastway E2 hitch on an 2019 F150 to tow a 19 ft travel trailer (E-Pro 19FD) which has 480 ibs tongue weight, trailer loaded is about 3800 lbs. I towed a few trips without a WDH and there was an annoying "bounce" or teetering at the hitch point (on roads that were not perfectly smooth) and a small amount of sway at highway speeds. I Just finished testing and the hitch reduced the bounce and sway and improved overall handling. I did have a problem with the UPS delivery and Nicol T at etrailer immediately got it straightened out and I called customer support with an install question and they were also excellent. My truck already had the timbrem SES rear suspension kit and I needed to know if that changed the install process (since the bed of the truck will not go down once the bumpers is on the axel - about 1 inch). Anyone installing this hitch - watch the install video along with the instruction manual...

by:

We have used the hitch almost six years without issue. Great hitch and amazing customer service after someone "borrowed" one of our bars without letting us know and forgot to leave us a note. When I shop for another hitch I'll be shopping for another Fastway E2.

by:

This made a huge difference in how my Toyota Highlander XLE towed a Winnebago Hike100. Before there was too much tongue weight and it caused extra sway at highway speeds. Now when hitched up my setup is more level and the sway is gone. Had to do a bit of adjustment related to the spaces but once I got it to the correct number of washers everything was perfect. Definitely recommend this.

I purchased Model 92-00-0600. My tow vehicle is a 2016 F150 with the eco-boost 2.7l engine. My trailer is an R-pod 195. Loaded weight of truck and trailer on the scales is 10,400 lbs. Tongue weight is 540 lbs. The wait for arrival of the Fastway e2 was frustrating in that I had a trip planned. etrailer shipped quickly but the shipment never made it to my door. For some reason, the product was shipped back to etrailer when it was only 50 miles from my home. I talked to my UPS driver, and he suspects that the original box suffered a major failure. I believe that after reading some of the posts stating that the shipping box was totally inadequate for a product weighing in at nearly 100 lbs. Finally, after about a week, the 2nd shipment arrived. It was double boxed and "bear proof". I think etrailer finally got the idea to pack these things for rough handling. I watched the videos several times (definitely watch the videos because they take the mystery out). With my measurements in hand, I went to work installing the hitch. My biggest problem was not having a flat driveway or large garage, so I found a nice, paved, flat, and level parking lot for my work. Installation went very smoothly, and I was able to get within 0.1 inch of my "line A" measurements. Actually, my front wheel well measurement was 0.1 inch low (meaning over-adjustment). I took the truck/camper rig on a long test drive in the wind with 35mph gusts. The hitch made a world of difference in driving. My truck and trailer are level and I think the ride has improved. I am pleased and satisfied with what I have. You do need a good torque wrench for installation. My local wheel alignment shop tightened down the trailer ball nut to the hitch head (guessing at something close to XXXft lbs.). Torgue (XXX ft-lbs.) on the two 3/4-10x5" bolts was an estimated. I first tightened them to 160 ft-lbs. (max on my torque wrench) and then used a 2-foot breaker bar to get them as tight as I could.

Did not know anything about hitches before purchasing this. Found out I had to get a receiver with a greater drop. Did not like that I couldn't trade the receiver in to get the one I needed. had to purchase another one.
It works well though

  • Will Shank from Curt Weight Distribution System Work with Fastway e2 Kit # FA94-00-1033
The great thing about weight distribution systems is that they all use the same shank style so the shanks and systems are interchangeable between brands. So if you have a Curt weight distribution shank currently it will work just fine with the Fastway e2 kit part # FA94-00-1033 that you referenced.

If you plan on carrying more than the 800lbs on your 2017 F-150 you can always add higher rated spring bars like Item # FA94-02-1099 which have a 1000lb tongue capacity. Keep in mind the F-150 max towing capacity is under 12000lbs so you want to make sure you do not exceed the truck maximum towing capacity and payload.

  • Are Trunnion Bars Harder To install Than Round Bars On A Weight Distribution Hitch
Because the trunnion bars of the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-1000 come directly out from the head instead of looping down and then coming out, they will most likely need to be adjusted a bit to compensate for the height difference. Most likely you'll need to have them just a bit lower on the shank than you have the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA94-00-1033. The 2-point sway control provides much better sway control and has no need for lift chains. This also works with a wider range of the hitch weights than the other brands.
