Weight Distribution Diagram

Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight-distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight-Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight-distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight-distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight-distribution system.

Fastway e2 Sway Control

The two points of sway control within the e2 are created by the steel-on-steel friction that occurs when the spring bars slide within the L-brackets that are mounted on the trailer tongue. Most traditional weight-distribution systems have spring bars that are suspended by chains. Although this ensures that the system is not so rigid as to create bounce in the trailer, it also allows a good deal of side-to-side play in the system.

The direct friction that is applied to the spring bars in the e2 system helps to stop sway once it has begun. The concept is similar to the way in which an add-on friction sway control device functions. When each spring bar moves forward or backward, or side to side, it rubs along the bracket, creating friction. The resistance created by this action limits the movement of the spring bar, thus preventing further side-to-side movement of the trailer.

Most add-on units feature some sort of friction material similar to that used in automotive brakes. But the e2 uses direct steel-on-steel contact to create resistance. This is the same sort of friction that is used with locomotives that pull loaded railcars weighing tons. No additional materials are needed. The steel will outlast any of those other materials, providing an extremely durable, functional sway-control system.

I’ve been using the Fastway e2 for a year, now, and have found it to be reliable and super easy to use. The setup is logical and ongoing use involves just a few steps and I’m on the road with travel trailer in tow. I would highly recommend this particular distribution and sway control system.

I90 winds in SD, beach winds on eastcoast, fleeing a hurricane in FL, ... never flet iffy, never found myself white-knuckling. This hitch is still a gem and cant imagine Ill ever get a different type. Love it!

All aspects of transaction were excellent as usual with e-trailer. The installation video was GREAT and very detailed. I was concerned with the installation but the Videos and supporting instructions made it a non issue. THANKS FOR AWESOME PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION EXPERIENCE!!!!!

I bought the hitch to tow our Winnebago 2108 DS, which has a dry hitch weight of 436 lb (~559 lb gross). So I bought the FA92-00-0600 model. Our tow vehicle is a GMC 1500. I followed Fastway’s instructions for setting up the hitch. At first glance, they seem a bit technical, with measuring the front of the vehicle, etc. But it was really pretty straightforward. I used the recommended 6 washers and it was perfect. I used my torque wrench, except for the ball – I just gave that everything I had. I am an amateur mechanic, and I found the hitch to be well-engineered and well-built. Definitely a quality product. Towing is inherently dangerous overall and can be stressful if not done right. So quality was important to me for a component that is so critical to the experience.

My experience towing was that I was pleasantly surprised. There is no sway. No noise. We can go 80 mph on the freeway. We go off-highway a lot. My wife noticed the lack of paint where the bars rub, but that is the way that the friction joint was designed to work. The only weird thing for me was using our trailer’s electric tongue jack to lift the front of the trailer and rear of the truck at the same time to install the bars. I wasn’t sure the jack was designed to do that, but it seems to work just fine.

I purchased Model 92-00-0600. My tow vehicle is a 2016 F150 with the eco-boost 2.7l engine. My trailer is an R-pod 195. Loaded weight of truck and trailer on the scales is 10,400 lbs. Tongue weight is 540 lbs. The wait for arrival of the Fastway e2 was frustrating in that I had a trip planned. etrailer shipped quickly but the shipment never made it to my door. For some reason, the product was shipped back to etrailer when it was only 50 miles from my home. I talked to my UPS driver, and he suspects that the original box suffered a major failure. I believe that after reading some of the posts stating that the shipping box was totally inadequate for a product weighing in at nearly 100 lbs. Finally, after about a week, the 2nd shipment arrived. It was double boxed and "bear proof". I think etrailer finally got the idea to pack these things for rough handling. I watched the videos several times (definitely watch the videos because they take the mystery out). With my measurements in hand, I went to work installing the hitch. My biggest problem was not having a flat driveway or large garage, so I found a nice, paved, flat, and level parking lot for my work. Installation went very smoothly, and I was able to get within 0.1 inch of my "line A" measurements. Actually, my front wheel well measurement was 0.1 inch low (meaning over-adjustment). I took the truck/camper rig on a long test drive in the wind with 35mph gusts. The hitch made a world of difference in driving. My truck and trailer are level and I think the ride has improved. I am pleased and satisfied with what I have. You do need a good torque wrench for installation. My local wheel alignment shop tightened down the trailer ball nut to the hitch head (guessing at something close to XXXft lbs.). Torgue (XXX ft-lbs.) on the two 3/4-10x5" bolts was an estimated. I first tightened them to 160 ft-lbs. (max on my torque wrench) and then used a 2-foot breaker bar to get them as tight as I could.

Did not know anything about hitches before purchasing this. Found out I had to get a receiver with a greater drop. Did not like that I couldn't trade the receiver in to get the one I needed. had to purchase another one.
It works well though

by:

Easy to install and use. I'm new to trailering, so I don't have much to compare this to, however the trailer doesn't sway, tows straight, and the weight distribution made ALL the difference in my towing capabilities and confidence. (2000 modified Toyota Tundra V8 with 2018 Jayco Jay Feather X213).

This hitch came in exactly as described. Quinn Was a great help not only on this order but my previous order on a trailer brake system. Quinn is very knowledgeable on all the things I needed. He was a big help because some of these things were new to me. I've gotten great service every time I ordered things. Thanks Quinn!

Installed your Fastway e2 600 lb trunnion hitch for 18 ft travel trailer. Pulling it with 2015 Tacoma V6. Works great! Got the setup right on first try. Instructions were very good. Happy with the product and with etrailer.

by:

The hitch was relatively easy to install once the ball got rolling, about 2 hours or so. Makes towing a breeze! Increased my connection clearance by 3"! Best part was the customer service provided by etrailer. Blew me away with attentive service due to a supply issue and was resolved with ease! I'd recommend this product to any towing person and that they purchase through etrailer.

Works as expected. Installed it myself and found the directions easy to follow and complete

by:

Product information on website was useful for selection. Product delivery was good and ontime. Hitch was easy to install and adjust and helps keep my trailer from swaying.

by:

Very nicely made. Haven't towed with it yet- bought it to replace a regular WD hitch.
Had an external friction sway control on my old hitch but didn't want to drill holes in my new trailer's aluminum tongue.
Hopefully the built in sway control will work out, I like having no external parts.

Havent used it yet this year but I look forward to future towing with the hitch.

by:

The Fastway hitch has performed better than expected. We have the hitch installed on a Honda Ridgeline pickup and we tow a 19' Forest River Geo Pro. Right away the control and handling of the truck improved and we also noticed an increase in gas mileage. My wife is very confident while towing, even on two lane roads and 18 wheelers passing going in the opposite direction. I noticed while driving in hilly terrain the camper tracks well and does not seem to push the truck on a down hill stretch. On the interstate there is much less sideways push when a large truck passes us.

by:

This thing is AWESOME! I use it on my 2012 Nissan Xterra 4WD while pulling my 4,000 lb travel trailer. I like to Boondock, so this thing has been over some serious terrain! Buy it, but experiment with how you set it up. Measure the heights of the bottom of your hitch, the top of your rear wheel well, and the top of your front wheel well until you get it where you want it. The third time was the charm for me!

by:

It works. We put a small trailer (Starcraft AR15) on a 2010 Tacoma. The top of the suspension system must be soft for an easy on-road ride, so the trailer really lowered the back of the truck and it swayed over bumps. The hitch is a little large for what we’re doing but the truck is level and the sway is gone. So, it works great.

by:

It is a well built very solid piece of equipment. Seems to do the job. Second day I towed it, I had a 15-20 cross wind and it was pretty stable. I could definitely feel the trailer behind me but I imagine it would have been very bad without sway control. I am pulling a 3000 lb travel trailer with a Toyota Highlander so it is important to have the anti-sway. The tow vehicle stays level with the weight distribution system in place. I had someone install it for me so I can't comment on the installation process. It does make some creaking noises when turning but I expect that is typical of all hitches with sway control. The shipping box was pretty beat up on arrival but nothing was broken. The only thing missing was the installation manual but that was available on the etrailer website.

by:

Used for a 15k cross-country trip towing a Winnebago 2106FBS. On road, it is a great help; it is imperative to pay attention to height and angle of hitch. If it is consistently difficult to leverage the friction bars, the installation must be tuned. Keep wrenches nearby for adjustments and tightening. Currently buying a new trailer and Fastway....

by:

I don't have my trailer yet as I'm still waiting for my order to come in, but I wanted to have everything in place before it arrived. Etrailer was a great reference to use when I was doing the research on which weight distribution system to use on my R Pod trailer. Their website has very detailed information on just about any product you need for towing an RV. I also liked that they offer a price match policy on the hitch so I could buy make this purchase with total confidence. Definitely a great company to work with on your buying your RV supplies!

by:

I purchased this for use with a Highlander Hybrid towing a 2700 lb trailer (unloaded). When loaded, rear suspension of TV would drop 2" or more measured at the rear wheel well. Installation required cutting slots into the trailer's top support tray (popup; holds the battery and propane tank) for the torsion bar support brackets. Once modified, do allow time for proper set up (a bit of trial and error with washers, bracket height, and hitch height -- each interacts with the other; not independent adjustments). Dramatic improvement in handling and ride once properly set up. The square trunnion bars are more expensive, but gives better ground clearance (required for my application). 4 stars for price with square bars; round bars 20 percent cheaper.

by:

eTrailer was helpful to make sure this was the right model for me. It got to me in 4 days. The box was mangled but thank God every part was in there. I think the parts of just too heavy for the packaging and the abuse of shipping.
The instructions are excellent. Easy to follow. Go slow and do it right. After initial set up I was over-adjusted so had to lower L brackets one hole. Then it was PERFECT - back to unloaded measurement. I was able to install everything with a decent set of tools/sockets and a Craftsman torque wrench - except the shank bolts. Shank bolts were bigger than my largest socket and 250 ft-lb is a lot of torque! Took whole deal to a truck repair place near me and they took care of torquing everything for free (and the 1-7/8" 450 ft-lb ball too!!!). {Thanks Santoni's}

by:

The Fastway e2 trunnion style weight distribution hitch is a great product! etrailer customer service recommended this system for my trailer and tow vehicle combination. Clear instructions with pictures/diagrams. etrailer has a video review and instructions on the website too. Borrowed a few sockets from my neighbor and had the system installed and dialed in a few hours.

by:

The hitch is great! I installed the FA92-00-0600 on my 2014 Acura MDX to pull my 2019 Geo Pro 19BH camper. It is night and day between the old and new hitch. Way less bounce and herky jerky when starting and stopping. Really pleased with the hitch.

Installation was straight forward though it took a bit of time to dial in just right. You also need some big wrenches for sure. I also bought the ALL643216 socket to attach the EQ91-00-6100 hitch ball.

The packaging left something to be desired. Part of the box was falling apart and things fell out of the box when I moved it off my doorstep. The hitch is almost 100 lbs so I'm not totally surprised, but this could be improved for sure.

by:

I bought this product to pull our 20' Winnebago Micro Minnie with our Honda Pilot. It works great and we have never had a bit of sway with it. I especially like the fact that I can back the trailer without removing the anti-sway control which would be a big headache in most situations.

Hi William, We can get you a shank with more drop, and I assume you have been using the one that came with the Fastway e2 # FA92-00-0600, which provides a max of 2-3/4" of drop. A shank that will allow you to add another 2-3/4" of drop for a max drop of 5-1/2" is the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution Shank # FA92-02-4214.

The correct system will depend on the tongue weight of your loaded setup. The best way to find this is to measure with a scale like the # e99044. Yes, your 2013 Jayco Swift 264BH travel trailer should have had the Fastway e2 rated for 8,000lbs # FA92-00-0800 since the dry tongue weight is already 500lbs. The Curt MV Weight Distribution System - Round Bar - 6,000 lbs GTW, 600 lbs TW # C17050 you were looking at very well may work with your 2005 Toyota Sequoia, but to confirm this you will need to verify the total tongue weight of your setup. Total tongue weight is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to tow trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your vehicle. The easiest way to get an accurate tongue weight measurement is with a tongue weight scale like...

  • What is Weight of Head and Shank of Fastway E2 Weight Distribution
The head of the Fastway E2 weight distribution # FA92-00-0600 weighs 20 lbs and the shanks typically weigh around the same. So there's no way around having some weight to the systems but this should be considerably less than a Blue Ox Sway Pro as they have a lot more going on with them. One product we carry that makes transporting the heads and shanks a little easier is the HitchGrip part # 303-HG-712 which grabs the head by the ball and gives you a handle that makes carrying the 40 lbs...

  • Is Weight Distribution System Needed for 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 Towing Cherokee Wolf Pup
A general rule of thumb with regards to a weight distribution system is that one is recommended whenever the trailer is heavier than half the tow vehicle's weight. The Cherokee Wolf Pup 16BHS can weigh as much as 3,877 pounds fully loaded, while your 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT weighs between 5,000 and 5,500 pounds depending on how it's equipped. Since the camper does weigh more than half of your truck, a weight distribution system is a really good idea and you're going to receive significant...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for a 4,000 lbs Wolf Pup Trailer
Congrats on the new trailer. It looks like a 2024 Wolf Pup 16FQ tops out at just under 4,000 lbs when fully loaded. This would put your tongue weight between 400 lbs and 600 lbs. The hitch doesn't count towards your tongue weight. You do not want to get a heavier rated system for a 1,000 lbs tongue weight that is 100% accurate. To have sway control, which you absolutely want, you will need to spend more than $400. In addition to that all of the chain hanging systems that clamp to your...

  • Hidden Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2020 Toyota Sienna
The hidden trailer hitch I recommend for your 2020 Toyota Sienna is the Draw-Tite # 76112 because it is the only hitch of the three that is rated for use with a weight distribution system like the Fastway e2 # FA92-00-0600, which not only speaks to its overall strength but is important if you do plan on towing. I have added a photo showing this hitch installed on a Sienna so you can see exactly how hidden the crosstube is. I have also added a link to a video install of this hitch so you...

  • Weight Distribution Recommendation for 2000 lb Travel Trailer
I'd be happy to help with that. A weight distribution system would be a great choice for eliminating the rear suspension squat you're experiencing when your travel trailer is hitched up. You'll choose the system based on the tongue weight of the travel trailer when it's fully loaded and ready to tow. If the 2000 lb figure represents the weight of the fully loaded trailer, the tongue weight would be about 300 lbs, give or take a few lbs. Because travel trailers are very susceptible to...

  • Needing Weight Distribution Shank With Greater Drop
The shank included with the # FA92-00-0600 Fastway weight distribution system you'd looked at will provide up to a 6 inch rise or a 1 inch drop, so it sounds like you're needing a shank that provides more drop. 3-1/4 inches of drop, use # FA92-02-4213. For 5-1/2 inches, use # FA92-02-4214. Or for up to 9-3/4 inches, use # FA92-02-4315.

  • Solutions to Combat Rear End Sag Experienced When Towing with 2019 Honda Odyssey
At this time, none of our vendors offer a suspension enhancement option for the 5th generation 2019 Honda Odyssey and nothing is currently in the works. Given the popularity of the Odyssey, I'd expect that to change at some point, but none of our vendors could say when that might happen. If the sag you mention is caused by the tongue weight of a trailer, and if your hitch is rated for use with a weight distribution system, weight distribution would be a much better way of dealing with...
