Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch for 2021 Salem 179DBK
Question:
Hello, I have a 2021 Salem 179dbk and was curious what WDH with sway control you all would recommend. We just recently bought a 2024 Tundra and have never towed with one before. Thanks

When you choose a weight distribution hitch you want to base it on the loaded tongue weight of your setup. The best way to do that is to measure using a tongue weight scale like the # e99044. However, we can get a good idea based on the available specs on your trailer.
Tongue weight is typically 10-15% of the loaded trailer weight. Your 2021 Salem 179DBK has a dry tongue weight of 465 lbs and base weight of 3,219 lbs. The GVWR is 4,865 lbs so fully loaded you're going to be sitting right around 700 lbs. You will also need to account for the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle in your 2024 Tundra.
I see you looked at the Fastway # FA94-00-1033. This is a great brand that is made by Equal-i-zer who is largely considered the best. However, the rating is a bit too high and I would choose the trunnion model with straight bars instead of the rounded for clearance.
For your setup the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA92-00-0800 would be the way to go. This system has a tongue weight range of 400-800 lbs so you're covered whether you're empty or fully loaded. You will also need # A-90 for a 2" ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16" ball along with a 1-7/8" 12pt Thin Walled Socket # ALL643216 for installation.
