CURT Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - C56158

Highlights

  • Custom Fit for Your Vehicle: Works with your vehicle's wiring
  • Tow-Ready Setup: 4-way flat plug powers trailer lights for safe towing.
  • Plug-and-Play Install: T-connector links to factory plugs—no splicing needed.
  • Protects Vehicle Wiring: Powered converter draws power from battery, not tail lights.
  • Circuit Protection Built-In: Inline and mini fuses guard both converter and vehicle.
  • LED-Light Friendly: Works seamlessly with trailers using LED lighting.

Features to know about

Installs Clean Without Splicing: Plug-In T-Connector

This harness plugs right into the vehicle’s factory connectors behind the trim panels. There’s no cutting or splicing wires—each plug matches up one way, so it’s simple to get right. The fit is tight and clean, keeping the install hidden and protected.

Comparison image of Curt and other trailer wiring harness connectors showing different plug types and converter boxes for vehicle towing setups

Protects Vehicle Electronics: Powered Converter with Dual Fuses

The built-in powered converter takes its 12-volt feed from the vehicle’s battery instead of pulling current from the lighting circuits. That keeps the vehicle wiring safe from overloads. One fuse protects the converter, and a second 10-amp low-profile fuse in the interior panel protects the factory circuit.

Ready for Modern Trailers: 4-Flat Connector Works with LED Lights

The 4-flat connector gives you all the lighting functions—running lights, turn signals, and brake lights—and it’s fully compatible with LED trailer lamps. The powered design helps ensure proper function even with low-draw LEDs.

Simplifies Setup for DIY Installs: No Power Wire to Run to Battery

Unlike some kits that need a long power lead to the engine bay, this harness taps into an existing 12-volt supply in the rear of the vehicle. That means fewer steps and no routing a wire all the way forward, saving time while still giving you reliable power.

Built to Handle Trailer Loads: 3 Amps Stop/Turn, 6 Amps Tail Light Output

The module outputs up to 3 amps for stop and turn signals and up to 6 amps for tail lights. That’s plenty for small and mid-size trailers, with circuit protection built in to prevent shorts or overloads.

Specs

Electrical Specifications

  • Stop and turn light maximum output: 3 amps
  • Tail light maximum output: 6 amps
  • Ignition off amperage draw: Approximately 15 milliamps
  • Fuse requirement: 10 amp low profile mini fuse (installed in fuse panel position 10)
  • Additional fuse: Inline fuse holder with larger fuse that protects the converter

Compatibility

  • Vehicle fitment: 2012 - 2016 Honda CR-V
  • Compatible with LED trailer lights: Yes
  • Vehicle type: Models without factory tow package
  • Connector type: 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector

Design and Features

  • Connector location: Behind driver-side rear access panel in cargo area
  • Installation type: Plug-and-play T-Connector (no splicing required)
  • Converter function: Powered light converter bypasses vehicle’s lighting circuits and draws power directly from vehicle’s battery
  • Ground wire: White wire with ring terminal to be secured to clean bare metal surface
  • Fuse protection: One inline fuse for converter, one fuse in vehicle’s interior fuse panel
  • Warranty: Limited 1-year warranty

Installation Notes

  • Negative battery cable removal: Not required
  • Power wire to battery: Not required (harness uses existing 12V power supply in vehicle wiring)
  • Fuse panel location: Under driver's side dash
  • Recommended fuse slot: Position 10 in under-dash fuse block
  • Typical connector color: Blue (may vary)

Note

This harness includes two fuses — one inline fuse that protects the converter and one 10-amp mini fuse that installs in the vehicle’s interior fuse panel to protect the vehicle’s wiring. The powered converter reduces strain on the vehicle’s lighting system by drawing power directly from the battery. The harness is a plug-and-play design requiring no wire splicing.

Quick and easy

Thank you for such an awesome experience! Never done this before and watching your video made it really easy to install. My jack had broken so I had to do it from the floor. A little tough but managed without any help. Also, The wiring was cake as well. Perfect demonstration and walkthrough on your video(s). You asked for the pics so I shot a few for you. I've never had a vehicle with a tow hitch so my next goal is a trailer. gotta save for that one :(

Well, once again I want to thank you, guys!

by:

Went fair except I am a technician and was left to wonder about the amount of volts going through small wires that this item had me plugging into. It would seem like this trailer kit should say something like "for use with LED trailer lights only"....

by:

Everything about the product was excellent. The best thing in the world with the videos as to how to install and use their wiring, harness or hitch or tow bar.

by:

Kit fit as described. Struggled to get the black rear panel back on as others had mentioned. Tough to get that gap out as it separates from the other piece near the rear seat. I did stick my connector to come out this hole as in pic below. Sticky tape fell off both sides despite wiping though. Used gorilla glue to help and otherwise all was fine. I'm a novice and it is do-able.

by:

Very nice and well made trailer hitch wiring harness for my Honda CRV. Brake, tail lights, turn signal lights tested perfect first try. Cover for plug keeps contact points clean when not in use.

by:

Exceptional service. Fast delivery. Another retailer failed to install a towing wiring harness so I found this product which was exactly what I needed. It came with videos and instructions that made it incredibly easy to install myself.

by:

Easy to install and works exactly as ex pected.

by:

Installation was a breeze. Must watch the installation video - step by step 20-minute job.

by:

Here is the final finish of the Curt "T" connector. Wired to my Hidden Hitch I purchased. Ordered a separate bracket to house the four pin plug to give it a cleaner look. Easy to install and looks amazing. Can't wait to try it out.

by:

A year out from purchase, this product is still great! So useful! etrailer is best for trailer parts, EVERYTIME!

by:

The trailer hitch and wiring harness arrived in 2 days, which was much quicker than I expected. The installation went smoothly thanks to the detailed instructional videos on etrailer.com. Great products, prices, and service. Thank you etrailer.com.

by:

I installed this in my 2012 Honda CRV because my trailer’s running lights stopped working. The product is easy to install because it only has two plugs to connect in addition to an inline fuse, ground wire, and fuse for the car. The only bummer was that the inline fuse prongs were next to each other but the inline fuse plug’s receptors were offset, so I wasn’t sure if the fuse was really making proper contact. But overall, I rate it 5 stars.

@Keith Glad we had the right fit for you Keith! What do you use the wiring for?

by:

I wired it to the outside of the Crv so I didn't have to open the hatch every time I wanted to pull my trailer. First I cut the trailer plug off a foot from the plug and ran the wires through the grommet in the photo. I had already cut a hole in the underbody and this grommet lead right to this hole. Then I reattached the trailer plug to the wires with shrink wrap connectors and ran the plug right above the hitch. Very clean install and setup I really like it.

by:

Great product. Good to have the install video—made the job much easier!!!!

by:

Price works great I installed it myself and yes I am a woman, I watch the video and everything went just as it should have I save myself $500 not having a trailer hitch and the wiring done and doing it myself. Thank you so much e trailers

Great! We use the hitch for an electric wheelchair for my 90 year old dad. I’m the one that has to hookup it all on my own. Couldn’t be more pleased with the fit. Thanks for being a great company via the internet. Carolyn a loyal customer

by:

Easy install, arrived quickly, video made this a snap.

by:

Works great, easy install, fast shipping. What else do you need?

by:

I have bought your wiring harnesses in the past for my trailer and it is very easy to install on my automobile. Thank you for the wonderful videos. It makes my life so much easier. Less stress and you sell very good products at reasonable prices! Thank you! Sincerely Greg

by:

I am still very happy a year out. I was able to easily install the Curt trailer hitch on my 2012 Honda CR-V all by myself. This is the second time that I've purchased a hitch from etrailer and it was an excellent expeirience both times. The product came well-packaged with no parts missing and instructions. The also provided links to ibstructional videos so you can literally follow along as you watch someone guide you. I use my hitch to tow a small 6x4 ft. trailer full of fire wood, leaves, dirt, furniture, and anything else that will fit. Etrailer will be my top consideration anytime I am on the market for vehicle accessories. Great products. Great customer service. Great Company.

Failed within a year and had to be replaced.

by:

Easy to install when following the video. One area not covered is the rear seat release. That also clips into the side panel when reinstalling the panel. If it is not clipped in then the handle will sit inside the side panel slightly however it will not have clearance to open. When removing the side panel I also accidentally unhooked the cover panel over the wheel well forward and below of the side panel. That one needs to slide back in vertically and then it clips in.

The control only supplied voltage to the running lights. Turn signals and break lights did not work

Thank you for letting us know Daniel, Since the running lights were working, it indicates that the harness was receiving power. In situations where the running lights work but the brake lights and turn signals do not, the cause is often related to a connection, grounding, fuse, or installation issue rather than the running light circuit itself. A few things to check would be: Verify that all vehicle side connectors are fully seated and securely connected. Confirm that the ground wire is attached to a clean, bare metal surface. Check the inline fuse and any related vehicle fuses to ensure they have not blown. Test the 4-way connector directly to verify that the brake and turn signal circuits are receiving power. Let me know how that goes and we appreciate your feedback!

by:

Installed by my son in law & he said the wiring was very straightforward, and adding the 4-pin harness for the brake lights and turn signals was quick and easy.
