Recommended Hitch for a 2014 Honda CR-V

Published 07/30/2023

Question:

I have a 2014 Honda CRV with a towing capacity of 1,500 lbs. You sell class 1, 2 and 3 hitches for this vehicle. What would be the advantage, if any, of putting a class 2 or 3 on this vehicle? Thanks.

Wider options for accessories and higher capacity on bike racks. The highest capacity class I and II bike carriers top out at 65 lbs. A class III bike rack can go over 80 lbs per bike and still stay under your CR-V's tongue weight. Often times, including this one, the class III hitches are less expensive.

For your 2014 Honda CR-V, I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch item # e98868 you were looking at. This is a class III hitch with a 2" receiver. It is custom fit and bolts to your Honda with included hardware.

I have linked an installation video below that will show you how to get this hitch set up.

If you are planning on towing you will also need a wiring harness item # C56158 and a ball mount kit item # C45534.
