Parts Needed to Install a 7-Way Trailer Connector on a 2014 Honda CR-V

Question:

Hi, Seems to me there some confusing information about exactly what is or isnt a compatible harness for a 2014 CR-V. One of your replies did a good job of answering a lot of the quesitons and installation videos are good as well, however nothing Ive seen as yet addresses what to do if your trailer requires a 7-pin round connector. Would I simply need some kind of adapter to connect the 4-pin connector supplied with the harness to a 7-pin style that my trailer rquires? And is that a less than ideal installation which perhaps might not provide all of the functions that the 7-pin connector uses? Thanks for any clarification you can provide!

Honda did not offer a towing package with a 7-way trailer connector for the CR-V, so using a 4-way to 7-way adapter is the best option. You will first want to install a wiring harness with a 4-way connector like part # C56158. This will provide all of the trailer light functions. I have attached the installation video and instructions for you to check out.

Next you will want to install a 7-way adapter. If you do not need all of the additional functions that a 7-way trailer connector provides, such as electric brakes, battery charge power or reverse lights, then you could simply install an adapter like part # 37185. The 4-way connector will plug into this adapter and provide the trailer light functions on the 7-way.

If you did want the additional functions from the 7-way, then I recommend installing our 4-Way and 7-Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. This kit comes with the adapter, # 37185, and all of the additional wiring and hardware needed to complete the 7-way installation. I have attached an installation video of this kit on a 2014 Honda CR-V for you to check out. As you will see in the video, we recommend using the long bracket, # C57202, to install the adapter so you do not have to do any additional drilling or modification.

The only additional item that you may need is a brake controller. A brake controller is required if your trailer has electric brakes. The brake controller that I recommend is the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, # 90885, because it is easy to setup and use. The installation for the P2 is also covered in the video I attached.
