Matte black, powder coated steel is durable and corrosion resistant and creates a rugged look.I purchased the hitch to mount a bike carrier on my 2014 Honda CRV. I am very happy with the purchase. The installation was easy thanks to the excellent documentation and outstanding video with all the details as to the bolt and fastener dimensions and locations.
I am 70 years old, just retired from a Field Service Engineer job with ASML and installed the hitch by myself without jacking up the rear of the CRV and only using the CRV tire-changing jack to lift the hitch. I put the hitch on the shipping box with the opening facing back and put the jack inside the box about 1/2 way toward the drivers side and then jacked that side up. (see first picture) The box kept the hitch fairly level, wouldn't slip down and off the concrete (I kept myself off the concrete using a rug). Then I lifted the drivers side of the hitch up and started the two bolts on that side. Then I took the shipping box out, jacked up the hitch on the drivers side to within 1/4" and then screwed in those two bolts. Everything fit perfectly per video and I had no issues with corroded bolt holes due to California conditions, also U-bolts fit fine did not overlap as previous reviewers had experienced. Overall great !!
Box was not damaged but when I inspected the hitch, there were several scratches and scuffs (some pictured). Now I will need to touch up a few spots so it doesn’t rust.
Perfect fit and not too hard to install once frame bolt holes were cleaned out. Delivery was very quick and all parts and instructions were intact. Looks great on vehicle. Very pleased with purchase. Installation video from etrailer webpage was a big help. Very user-friendly and informative webpage offering a great selection of product.

Quick install (by a company, not me) and I am ready to go. It was part of upgrading my Honda CRV with a cargo carrier and now I have nearly double my storage space for drives.
The product is good and the fit was correct. There were some scratches from shipping or manufacturing? If I didn't have the deadline at the time... and if this wasn't going under my vehicle, where it gets scratched and dirty anyway... I would have asked for a replacement. As such... it got installed and worked great for simple bike rack or cargo carrier. My only issue was cleaning the rusty threaded holes... but that's not anybody's fault except the PA winter, salty roads!
I bought this to mount on my wife's Honda CRV, following my first purchase two years ago of one for my Jeep Renegade. I was actually able to get the hitch mounted with no extra help, although it is darn heavy and awkward when you're laying on the garage floor. The directions were clear, and the template for cutting the plastic skid shield was dead-on accurate. I only give it four stars because on the of mounting bolts would simply not thread on. Since we only use them for our bike racks, it didn't cause a problem, and when my wife brought her car in for inspection the mechanic was able to get the bolt to thread. In sum, the hitch works great and is super sturdy.

Still works great. Its only used to hold a bike rack, so there is no real stress applied to the hitch.
The video for this job was great. The actual hitch was in excellent condition and fit right in. However the small 'U" bolt that locks over the tow hook was too tight between the two legs. It would not fit at all! I called your office for technical help and your operator just offered to send me a replacement. She stated that they sometimes have problems with the fit of this part. I saw absolutely NO cautions on your written information or the video narration about handling this situation! I had my vehicle on a lift, almost fully installed (loosely per instructions) and I don't think this is a good time for a customer to encounter 'well, we'll send you out a replacement part.' Instead I think your people should instruct the customer to 'dry fit' the u-bolt through the tow hook and the hitch plate BEFORE even attempting the installation. Better yet - send out parts that fit the first time! My fix for this was to use a metal grinder and grind off a small amount of the sides of tow hook metal to force to fit the faulty part and get the job done. This is not acceptable choice for me but I had to get the job done! I am a very dissatisfied customer because a very low-priced item!!
I really like this trailer hitch. The hardest part of the installation was removing the plastic panel. I got this for my wife's car so she could carry a bike or pull a kayak trailer. I am in my 70s and suffer vertigo easily so my wife who is in her 60s ended up doing much of the work. We exceeded the installation time by quite a bit but she now has a great trailer hitch on her Honda CRV.
This is my second trailer hitch purchased from etrailer and I can say that I recommend them all the time to people. This has worked perfectly on my vehicle and was easy to install. Working I the outdoor industry, I frequently reccommend etrailer to people looking for ways to expand their gear carrying capability. One of the best things is the ability to view an installation on your exact vehicle.
Hitch is of good quality. It installed as described. The only issue I had was that the crv came with a 1-1/4" hitch installed so I had to remove that first. So of course bolts were already in the holes and each side had 3 bolts. Once I got thevold hitch off, installation went as shown on the video. Two things to note, I had to remove the hanger behind the muffler to get to the 3rd bolt. The other is that there was no place on the hitch to mount the electric for the trailer so I improvised.
Hitch arrived a little ahead of schedule. Always appreciated. I like the rounded tubular look of this hitch. Install was easy and the video on etrailer hit the nail on the head. Took me about 90 minutes but not because it was hard, confusing or a challenge. One thing, put all of the plastic pan fasteners back in after re-install, before you mount the hitch. Well done etrailer.
Hitch receiver fit perfectly and looks great, my only challenge was getting the threads clean enough for the bolts on the side of the muffler that were not protected by the plastic undercarriage. I suggest having a good brush that will fit into the bolt hole. That being said the hitch is well made and once installed is perfect.
The hitch arrived promptly, and well packaged. I have a 2013 CRV which have the nuts welded into the frame which I thought would make for a quick installation. I only cut 3 sides of the plastic underbody, and then cleaned the screw holes with the brush. Went to test fit the bolts and the muffler side nuts were totally rusted. Tried the brush some more, no luck. Tried a dental pick, no luck. Finally my son used a Dremel with a small wire brush and was able to get both muffler side nuts cleaned. I finally could hand thread all the bolts into the nuts. Once this was completed it only took 20 minutes to install the hitch. We did use the U bolt and nuts bolted to the tow hook to hold the hitch while we bolted it to the frame. It took us 2 1/2 hours, 90% was cleaning the rust from the welded nuts.
I will be securing the cut flap with some aluminum stock and pop rivets, as I feel the duct tape will fail over time.
Note: the two flange nuts for the tow hook are to wide and over lap, so I can't get one flush against the hitch. I plan on replacing 1 or both with grade 8 nuts, washers and lock washers. Waiting for a reply from customer service.

Its been 1 year and the hitch is still looking good. I havent replaced the nuts used on the tow hook. Im only transporting 2 bikes so Im not to worried.
It arrived 8 days later than promised with one of the mounting bolts missing and the under panel cut out instructors were not helpful. Had to wing the cut out opening.

Installation was a breeze. Instructions very easy to follow. Mainly used for bike racks and it has felt safe and secure going down the road.
This is my third time ordering from etrailer.com and they always provide a great experience. The hitch came exactly as expected with no issues. I watched the installation video several times and then went to work. Everything they said in the video was exactly as expected. No surprises at all. I even used some of the tips from the other reviews to make the installation even better (I didn't cut out the entire piece from the under-panel, just cut it on three sides, folded it back, attached the bolts to the frame and the folded the under-panel right back into place). The CR-V looks GREAT with the new hitch. My daughter will now be able to load her own bikes and leave the other car to us! Kudos to etrailer!

It works great! My daughter loves it and it is easy for her to use! Installation was easy from looking at the online videos. I even used the trick of not cutting the entire hole off, but instead tucked it back and then used Gorilla Glue duct tape to hold it back in place.
On-time delivery. Installation instructions were clear. Very satisfied.
Packed well, installed easily. I would do business with eTrailer again!

working as expected, tough to mess up a steel trailer hitch. Fabricated a new plastic cover that was cut up for installation, used a plastic tub lid, cut to fit what was cut off and looks OEM.
Simple DIY project. Instructions and YouTube videos made the job much easier. I used a dreamer tool to cut instead of box knife. Used another jack stabd to hoist the hitch when installing the U bolt.
Received hitch a day earlier than promised. Installed on a 2016 Honda CRV. Removed rear trim and hangers for muffler. Cut trim to clear left bracket and installed both trim and hitch together. A little more difficult but it looks great! This is the second hitch I have installed from etrailer, both were great! Including photos of cutout and install.

Love the etrailer.com 2" receiver i bought. 4 hours of hell to install in my garage, but look at me now! the thing works great for my mountain bikes, and i can use it for trailer, or other hitch mount tech. perfect.

Very well. No problems, rock solid.
Installed on a 2015 CR-V. It's well-made and about as unobtrusive as a hitch can be. Stickers peeled off nicely. However the estimate on the instructions of a one-hour install is WILDLY optimistic, it took me 4+ hours including a trip to the hardware store. I'm sure it would have gone faster if I had a both a lift and someone to help. The most time-consuming part was rusted bolt holes on one side above the muffler. I tried cleaning them out with a brush without success. I ended up flooding them with PB Blaster and working the bolts in and out a bit at a time and making sure the threads were clear and not stripped. Something etrailer might add to the instructions is that the flange nuts on the U-bolt are supposed to overlap. I called (on a Saturday) and talked to a nice etrailer rep who confirmed that is correct.
Ive had this for more than a year now and I can honestly say this was a great purchase. It was really straight forward in terms of installation and everything fit pretty snug. Never had any issues with it and I was really glad they had some for my car’s model
I've had the hitch for a year and it's great. The install was fairly simple with good instructions. The hitch is top quality and works great for carrying my e-bikes and occasionally towing a small utility trailer. I will consider etrailer first for any future hitch purchases.

These hitches are shipped together in large pallets which does result in scratches from time to time. I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you. We recommend using a rust resistant spray paint like Rustoleum to touch up the hitch.
