Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Super easy install. Took 45 min beginning to end. Install tip was i wedged a screwdriver between the exhaust hanger and the hitch to hold it up while installing the nuts. That will make more sence when you're installing it. Clean install look. Didnt even have to jack the car.

Exactly as expected. It is use for a bike rack and a utility trailer and it handles both wonderfully.

etrailer hitch purchase was easy to get right due to their great informative website ….. their narrative videos are helpful in the selection and installation process.
Never would have guessed there was a choice with hitches …. DT73RR was the preferred choice ….. No body/bumper parts had to be removed and the tow pins are still accessible which was a BIG MUST HAVE for my tie down points …..
Company follows up with order that shipped immediately.
Will be ordering T-Connector light Harness to complete my towing capabilities.

Just wanted to drop you a quick email to let you know that the trailer hitch you provided fit like a charm for my Subaru Outback! I used a floor jack to make the self-installation super smooth once I was able to figure out how to make the installation easy. It worked like a dream! The installation instructions were clearly written and thank you for providing the necessary aids to help with installing the bolts into the frame.

by:

Installed it myself on a Subaru Outback while the car was on the ground. I balanced it on a floor jack to help lift it into place. The video instructions gave me the confidence to get the job done. Lubricating the exhaust hangers is key to getting them off easily. Nice and sturdy product.

by:

I like how the Draw-Tite hitch is tucked back under the vehicle. I have installed the Draw-Tite QSP trailer hitch silencer in hopes of quieting the bike rack for which I bought the hitch. However the silencer makes the hitch more visible. The install was not hard and was able to install by myself. The install video was very helpful from etrailer. Didn’t really need the instructions that came with the hitch other than referring to themfor the torque specs for the bolts. Only thing I was disappointed with was the paint. It was chipped off the hitch to bare metal in a few places. Not sure if it it’s painted or powder coated. Not eTrailers fault, think it’s more of a quality control issue from Draw-Tite. As stated in their install video, just check to make sure you won’t have any clearance issues as this hitch does sit back from the rear bumper and could be a problem for some applications.

by:

From start to install this has been the most pleasurable experience with a retailer. The website is easy to understand and order from. 3 days later here is the hitch. The installer I used from their website D&R RVService phoned me back within 30 minutes and set up installation for today at 8. Right at 8 they were there and a more pleasant experience I could not have asked for. Thank you to everyone involved in this project

In my option this hitch is way too short for my 2022 Outback. When mounted the receiver sits at least 3" under the rear bumper while other receivers I have had on other cars are even with the back of the bumper or even protruding a bit. My fold-up bike rack barely fits. I bought a Curt hitch from etrailers a few years ago for my 2016 Outback and it sits about flush with the back of the bumper. So if you have a 2022 Outback the Curt is probably a much better choice than the Draw-Tite.

Thank you for the Video and instructions, I could not be happier with the way it went in and how it looks...easy install. I can pull my trailer, use my bike rack and use my step to tie down the kayaks. A+A+A+ for Draw-Tite and etrailer team.

Poor packaging that led to damage. Now I have sand it down and spray paint it, otherwise it will rust in less than a year in Florida weather. Disappointed!

This is very common when it comes to shipping hitches. I have sent your information over to our customer service department for them to look into a credit for the paint to cover those scratches.

Great construction. Exact fit. YouTube video from eTrailer gave fantastic instructions on how to install. Was tricky installing alone so I used a hydraulic lift table and ratchet strap to lift and hold hitch in place while installing nuts and washers. Had car backed onto ramps to elevate rear of car. Looks great on our 2023 Suburu Outback.

by:

Great Draw-tite product. Installation took 1.5 hours start to finish. etrailer.com was stellar with better than on time delivery and absolute spot on video instruction.

The hitch is on and wire, life is good.

by:

Ordered my Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver over the phone. William made the process simple, he was knowledgeable and professional. Explained things to consider during installation. The Hitch was delivered on the date that was promised.

The trailer hitch was easy to install following instructions and the video. I’m very satisfied after a year of using it.

by:
2020 Subaru Outback Wagon

Hitch arrived quickly and packaged well; as usual. Enclosed instructions are comprehensive enough, but together with the video, anyone with average+ mechanical skills shouldn’t have any problems.
I used jack-stands and a floor jack to facilitate. 2 people would be ideal.

by:

The hitch arrived just a few days after I ordered it, and everything is in good shape. The hitch is solidly made, and per the specs it will haul more than the car will. It took some time fishing the rear wires through. I ended up using long nose pliers to catch the wire at the access hole. Once after getting the wire through, I pulled it down to put the bolt on and the other end went inside the frame. I had to start over, and this time I taped the end of the wire to the frame so it could not slip inside the frame.

It is important to use lots of a lubricant to get the muffler supports off and back on. It definitely takes two people to lift it into place. I tried it alone and had to get a neighbor to help. Everything is now in place and I used it today for my bike rack to meet friends for a ride.

Subaru Outback Wagon

First--super fast shipping. I had the hitch in hand in less than 48 hours after I ordered it. The finish was very good--had a couple of small scratches on the bottom that I had to touch up to prevent rust. I installed this myself--with some help from my nephew to hold it in place until I got all of the nuts on--and it took more time to gather the tools and get the Outback up on ramps than it did to actually install the hitch. Saved hundreds of $$$ compared to what the dealer would have charged. This hitch does hang a bit lower than the factory and other hitches, but I couldn't care less about ground clearance and I didn't want a hole cut in my bumper cover. Unless you are looking at the side of the car from a distance, you can barely see this hitch once it is installed. I have only used it to use a cargo carrier, but it's worked flawlessly. Icing on the cake--etrailer followed up a year later to make sure I was happy with the hitch. You couldn't ask for anything more!

by:

Great customer support, installation instructions, videos. I highly recommend etrailer!!

by:

Price was good but the Hitch came torn through the box and the coating removed and even what did not go through the box on delivery was chipped as well. no other packaging was put in the box so the tester and cable harness box could bounce around and move in box. I called customer service to return the hitch due to the damaged coating and they told me to clean it with soap and water and paint it. When I said I did not find that acceptable, she immediate told me that is how they all are and it is from stacking at the warehouse and she offered me a $[XX] paint credit to my card. Be warned! It did install easily by instructions and utube video.

by:

Fast shipments, Good products fit perfectly
Ps. Very handy needed to install this hitch receiver

It mounted easily and there were no problems. Using for bike rack on Subaru outback, it was a bike rack that I purchased from you years ago. Now I have a new bike rack for ebikes from you on pickup.
Always a pleasure to order from etrailer, quick shipping and the right part.

Install was super easy use my floor ramps. Can’t wait to use my new bike rack.

2024 Subaru Outback Wagon

We installed the drawtite class III hitch on our 2024 Outback Touring XT. XT stands for extra tailpipe!
This made the install a little trickier but we got through it. We hit a snag when we pushed a bolt and bracket back into the frame. After fishing unsuccessfully for 30 minutes, we found the solution. We went in from the top. Meaning we opened the lift gate, took the top tray off the spare tire, pulled the left flat panel and black styrofoam piece. There are 4 circular black, reusable “stickers”.
Pulled a couple off, shown a light from below and moved the bracket and bolt back into place!
Fitting all four tailpipe rubber mounts were a challenge.
All in all, glad it’s done and it looks great.

by:

Hitch came in great shape! Got the car apart the fist time and the hardware was wrong??. I called customer service and they shipped me the right one very quickly. Hitch went on easily with minor issues. The trailer harness was literally a plug in job works perfect. On the Subaru wilderness I was able to use a straight hitch. Over all very pleased.

Dodge Journey

Used this hitch to transport 3 bikes on a 1,300 mile round trip journey to the beach. Installation was a breeze with the provided instruction and it handled our 3 bikes with ease. Can’t wait to see what else it can handle.

by:

This is for packaging and install, have not used it yet. Arrived quickly and well-packaged. Directions were Spartan but clear and easy to follow. Would buy again without hesitation. Removed muffler instead of dropping the exhaust, since I don’t have a tool for the hangars. As another has suggested, it is easier to reverse fish the wire through the holes in the frame and put the hardware on after, rather than trying to find the smaller hole with the loose end. A creeper is nice. Having a crate or something to put the hitch on is really the only way to do this alone, but it’s doable. 2 hours install time, and I’m pretty slow in general.

Chris

After a year, still looks great, paint is holding up, and worked awesome for bike rack all last summer and fall. Would buy again.

  • Why Is Ratings For Trailer Hitch Receiver So Much Higher Than Vehicles Towing Capacity?
The rating of a trailer hitch receiver and the vehicle it was designed for rarely match up perfectly. In most cases including this one, Draw-Tite tested the hitch to higher standards and found the # DT73RR capable of the 675lb tongue weight and 4500lb trailer weight you mentioned. With that said you are always limited to the lowest rated component.
