Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2002 Ford F-150 - Curt

Today, on this 2002 Ford F-150, were going to install part number c14355 from Curt. All right, this is what the hitch will look like once its installed on the vehicle. Next, well give you some measurements thatll help you out in selecting some accessories such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground will be 18 1/2 inches and from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper will about 2 1/2 inches. Now, Ill go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. The first thing were going to do is well go ahead and point out the location where the hitch will mount up. Itll use existing holes in the frame located at the bottom.

Also, one thing you want to make sure that you have some space to work with, with the spare tire and the frame. If you can get your hand in there then you can install the hardware. If not you may have to go ahead and lower the spare tire temporarily. All right, well go ahead and start installing the hardware. Well have the block and a carriage bolt and the nut. You can see how they all go together here and then well go ahead and install it into the frame.

Well go ahead and install all the hardware into the holes. Then, with a set of extra set of hands well go ahead and lift the hitch up into position and install the flange nuts. With all our flange nuts loosely installed well go ahead and tighten down the hitch and then well go ahead and torque it down as specified in the instructions. All right, in just a few easy steps our hitch is already installed. With that, thatll finish it for our install of part number c14355 from Curt on this 2002 Ford F-150.

The hitch went on TERRIFICALLY on my 2002 Ford F-150 SuperCrew. I did have a little bit of trouble aligning one of the bolts (the one furthest to the front on the passenger side to be exact), in which was most likely due to a solid rear-end collision I experienced in the past, but it was nothing some help from a rubber mallet couldn't solve. As far as quality, the hitch felt completely solid and rigid, as it should obviously. The coating that is proudly advertised provided a clean, black and polished look that was applied evenly across the entire piece. Even with the issue of the previously mentioned bolt, the hitch remained completely centered and concealed once all of the bolts were tightened and torqued. For quality and fair pricing, I'd say this was probably the greatest purchase one could make for a class IV trailer hitch receiver. 525804

Recently, I purchased several items from etrailer.com and was completely surprised at how easy the entire process was from selecting the correct parts for my 1997 Ford F150, to delivery and installation. Here's a quick rundown of the items I purchased: C14355 - Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class IV - 2" 3035-P - Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers; 90885 - Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional; 118242 - Ford Replacement OEM Tow Package Wiring Harness, 7-Way; 18138 - Mounting Bracket for 7-Way. Got this to replace the rusted out hitch on my 05 f250. Wicked good quality, and a class size up from the factory hitch. Had to remove the spare tire heat shield for the holes to line up on the passenger frame rail, off by about 1/2". No big deal, as I don't keep the tire under there. Many happy towing miles ahead. 437478

The Hitch was what I was looking for to fit under the Ranch Hand Bumper. If you are installing this on a truck that has a Ranch Hand Bumper, you will also need to order the BROPHY (code: BM20), Ball Mount, 13 1/4" long, to get the ball out from under the bumper. I did have a few issues installing the Hitch, I believe that the hitch was damaged during shipping. The shipping packaging was damaged and UPS stated that it would not stay in the box during his route. The issues was that the left two blot holes would not line-up for the bolts. With the help of a five foot pipe was able to line it up. Over all, I'm happy with the hitch. 126230

This hitch fit perfectly. only took about an hour to install. only ran into one problem, and that was accessing the rear bolt on bout sides, because the hitch design didn't allow much room to get a socket on the nut. dropped the spare tire out of the truck, problem solved. 748926

  • Rearmost Bolt Hole Dimensions for the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver on a 1999 Ford F-250
It is true that the center of the rearmost bolt holes for the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C14355 measure 32-11/16" on center, but since these bolt holes are oblong this trailer hitch will still fit your 1999 Ford F-250. If you note in the attached photo I show that the oblong holes range from about 32-1/8" at the closest part to about 35" at the the furthest part. Since your frame measures 32-11/16" it will fit just fine as the bolts you use for the installation are 1/2" bolts.

  • What is the Mounting Hole Spacing for the CURT Trailer Hitch # C14355
I spoke with my contact at CURT about Trailer Hitch # C14355. From side to side, the holes that would be furthest forward on the truck are 34 inches apart on center. The 2 sets that are at the end of the hitch are 33-11/16 inches apart on center. Front to back, the two closest holes are just a hair under 2-1/2 inches apart on center. From the middle hole to the furthest away hole on center it is just a hair over 11-1/8 inches. I have included a link to the installation instructions...

  • Vehicles Suitable for Using Hitch Motorcycle Carrier with Total TW of 650+ Pounds
Most passenger vehicles have a tongue weight (TW) capacity - TW is downward force on the frame - that usually ranges from a low of about 150-lbs up to about 500-lbs. Larger pickups that have a much higher towing capacity will naturally also have a higher TW rating since their frames are built to be much stronger. TW for a hitch is usually rated at 10-percent of the towing weight limit for that hitch. For example, the 2-inch Class IV Curt hitch # C14355 has a tow rating of 10K and a TW...

So if the vehicle has a 20 inch tire, for example 245/55/20, it will not fit that vehicle.
