Product: I was a little bit surprised that this drawbar has some play when installed into the hitch. I would expect it slide in and have no space for wiggling side to side.

Packaging: I would give it 2 stars but don't want to affect the product itself. Package came destroyed, drawbar is scratched (or rather "one corner is sanded to bare metal"). This is how package looked when received. You guys selling heavy pieces, can you invest in packing a little bit more?
p.s. The hitch I received a week early had the same problem - one side sticking out of the box, scratched.

The drawbar and the receiver tube on your hitch like any mass-produced product, has to be within a certain size tolerance. No 1-1/4 inch receiver tubes inside dimension will measure exactly 1-1/4 inches, it will always be a little bit larger. The shank of any accessory designed to fit a 1-1/4 inch receiver wont measure exactly 1-1/4 inches. If the receiver and shank were both exactly 1-1/4 inches, they would not fit together. Occasionally, youll get a hitch mounted accessory with a shank thats on the small side of tolerance used in a receiver thats on the large end of tolerance. When that happens, there will be more movement of the drawbar in the hitch. There are various anti-rattle devices available such as # RM-061-125 that will tighten up the connection between the drawbar/hitch accessory and the receiver tube.

Installation is self explanatory, in my case it puts the ball at the same height it was on my truck. I'm only using this for pulling a small utility trailer that I put my dirt bike in, but the construction (weld) felt solid enough for larger pulls like a small camper.

Ive pulled my dirt bike trailer all over the state with zero issues. No problems neither on or off road. Considering the lead foot I get sometimes, no signs of wear or abuse have shown, it has remained stable from day one. Thanks

I use this hitch on my 2006 BMW sedan to haul my two kayaks and it works great. The extended length keeps the kayaks from touching the back of the car on turns.

by:

Well-made, perfect fit.

by:

The hitch was easy to install and looked as if it should have been there all along. I used it to pull my motorcycle trailer, and absolutely no problems.

Alas, I sold the 2013 Beetle back to VW in January of this year over the "DieselGate" situation. I had gotten hold of a 2003 Beetle Diesel to replace it, and got a hitch from eTrailer for it. (The 2013 hitch would not work on the 2003.) Same story. Easy. And the installation videos eTrailer makes available lets you know just what and how everything needs to be done.

The entire installation on my 2003 Beetle TDI is still performing as it should. eTrailer knows towing, and always has helpful information.

It looks to have been used or found on the side of a road very disappointed

All shipped Quickly, installed easily, work perfectly.

by:

Excellent Service! Delivery in 2 days! Wow! Hitch and drawbar are of excellent quality. Installation was difficult for me because I don't own suitable jacks for holding the hitch in position, and especially because the fit is very tight. It is unforgiving, only one position would work.

But.. difficulty is worth it because the finished product is so good. Looks perfect. A while ago I installed a hitch from another manufacturer on a similar car, 2003 Town Car, and the fit was very sloppy. It worked for towing, but the receiver was too low and the installation looked like junk.

No need for photo as my 2009

I ordered a few products at one time and, before ordering, had some questions about compatibility. My questions were answered quickly and accurately. Products arrived more quickly than expected and were in good shape (no damage). I found the product videos very helpful when shopping. My ATV isn't here yet so I can't comment on fitment.

Have had a chance to use this a handful of times. Fits my ATV perfectly and is strong. Useful for a number of pulling applications.

My Lincoln Town Car hitch requires a extra-long and rather rare Towing attachment. etrailer is the only one I could find on the internet that had one and at a good price. Workout perfectly.

by:

Good price and service. It pulls stuff with power and authority. When cars behind me see this drawbar, they honk their horns in awe and surprise. Families pull their children in tight as my drawbar thunders by.

by:

Excellent service great price and quality product. Would by from etrailer.com anytime. Thanks, Ralph

by:

Product is exactly as expected!

Service
is also exceptional, same as on past orders.

I wasn't in a rush, but etrailer got the order out the same day, and because I'm within 1 day UPS ground shipping in Kansas City, the order arrived the next day.

I really appreciate the great communication from etrailer, I received an email to let me know it was shipped the same day the order was received, and received a second email today to confirm that it had been delivered. Very helpful!

I can't recommend etrailer highly enough!

  • Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 36179 Installation Difficulty for a 1996 Ford Thunderbird
You can certainly view the installation instructions for the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 36179. I have included a link to them for you to view. We rate the installation of this hitch as a 4 out of 10 for a novice installer. Difficulty is based on the estimated installation time and if there is any trimming or drilling required.
