You can certainly view the installation instructions for the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 36179. I have included a link to them for you to view. We rate the installation of this hitch as a 4 out of 10 for a novice installer. Difficulty is based on the estimated installation time and if there is any trimming or drilling required.
Installation of this hitch on a 1996 Ford Thunderbird does not require any trimming or drilling and as long as you have the correct tools and a friend to lend a hand, you can probably have it installed in about an hour.
If you plan to do some towing, the recommended ball mount is # 36063 and it should only be used in the rise position. You can use pin and clip # PC2 and ball # 19256 (1-7/8 inch diameter) or # 19258 (2 inch diameter). For trailer wiring, use # C59236.
