1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. And today, we're gonna take a look at this Dexter pre-greased trailer idler hub. This hub assembly is going to fit your 3,500 pound trailer axles with number 84 spindles. And this comes pre-greased with Dexter grease with the bearings and the seal already assembled so it's going to be ready to install right out of the box with no need to pack bearings. And what that means for you is less mess and less time to install.
So, this is going to be a very convenient install for you. Now though, this is going to work with wheel sizes from 13 inches to 15 inches and the bolt pattern is five on five inches. And the wheel stud diameter is a half an inch and the length of the stud is an inch and a quarter long. Now, the weight capacity is 1,750 pounds. And as I mentioned, the bearings, races, and double lip grease seal are not only included but also installed in this hub.
And as you can see, this is our outer bearing and you can see that grease in there. And then turning this back around, we have our double lip grease seal with our inner bearing inside. And of course, the races are installed in there as well. And the bearing information I have there for you on your screen, the inner bearing is L68149 and the outer bearing is L44649. So, this also includes everything that you see here on the table before me.
You're going to get grease caps, the standard grease cap, and then the E-Z Lube grease cap, whichever's going to be best for your application. And then, of course, we have our washers, we have our slotted jam nut, we have our cotter pin. And then we have our hex jam nut as well and our nut retainer. Of course, our lug nuts. So, everything that you need to successfully install this.
And again, you're not gonna have to worry about the mess of packing your bearings. This hub is made here in the USA of a sturdy iron construction so very strong and durable. Another excellent experience with etrailer, and with this part. I realized I had a damaged hub when repacking my bearings, and ordered this, paying a small fee for 2-day delivery. It arrived in 2 days, to rural Colorado, and I can't normally get anything that fast here in the mountains. The kit has all options for installation as well as the hub. It has both the standard and ez-lube grease caps, as well as both the clip type and cotter key type nut retainers. Even got a set of lug nuts I'll put in my tool box as spares. Great service, and a great part.

These have held up for 30k miles so far and still perform like new. Serviced in 10k increments. Overlanding trailer weighs 1360 lbs empty 2k fully loaded.
Quick shipping. The pieces appear to be of good quality. The welds looked solid. I haven’t put it on yet but it appears to be a straight forward installation. It’s going on a single axle trailer.

I was in need of a set of hubs to go on a small enclosed trailer, time was of the essence and from the time I purchased the hubs they were delivered to my door step not even two full days later. For FREE. Which if you order parts for anything you know that’s insane !!!!!!! The hubs seem like great quality, they went on with zero issue. There was even included parts to use either a castle nut or a tab style washer, plus lug nuts ! And I have faith they’ll make the 3700 mile trip I have coming up. 10/10 would recommend to anyone.
The hubs arrived in about 4 days, however the two hubs (individually packed in their own boxes) were overpacked in one single box. No additional packing materials were added to the box, so the heavy hubs bounced and slid around so much that the plastic covers (2/hub) were knocked off and the outer bearings popped out.
The product was easily installed, the telephone guidance on selecting the proper hub was OUTSTANDING! but etrailer should take some additional time to pack the boxes properly to avoid the possibility of a damaged product arriving at a customer's house.
Kit came with everything. Perfect fit. No issues or problems noted during the past year. Last November towed my 3500 lb boat/trailer package from Savannah GA to Port Charlotte FL and return at speeds up to 65 mph in addition to all the local miles racked up during the year -- all with no issues or problems.
Got as overnight as I needed it asap. Fit perfect using the tang style retainer. Only issue I found was the silicate packet was open and spilled gritty silicate all over, so had to clean that mess out of the grease

I wasn't replacing hubs but rather installing them on new axles (Timbren Axle-less system also purchased here). It was convenient to get the hubs here as I was also purchasing the Timbren system so I knew the setup would work together.
Being a novice at working on trailers, these hubs installed without a problem using the instructions provided. I had read several articles on problems with new hubs and the key comments I heard echoed was to be generous with greasing the bearings. It's been a year and I only have about 500 miles on the hubs but everything still sounds good.
I use the trailer for pulling my motorcycle so the load has been roughly 1200 pounds. The tires are ST145-R12 trailer tires.
