Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

This is an exact replacement for the hub that had been ruined on my 23' Donzi boat trailer. It was shipped extremely quickly and I installed it this afternoon - ready to roll again!

by:

Hubs worked great...now my trailer has the same bolt pattern as my Jeep.

I AM Very Impressed With The Quick Delivery!! Packing Around Everything So No Bent or missing parts!
Will Order From You Again!

by:

At the time I ordered these, I was new to re-doing breaks. I had never done anything like it before. I did my best research. However, I still ordered the wrong parts for my trailer. George and Tamera were extremely helpful in their research! They went out of their way to help me get what I needed. After watching the videos and getting greasy, the job was complete. I may have made mistakes along the way, and I really should have called first, but in the end, my trailer works great.

My trailer - 3 years later - still has no issues and has over 10,000 miles on it pulling my quads.

I have been a satisfied customer since 2015.

No grease zerk. I guess you are expected to use ez-lube axles. No response fro eTrailer about this issue.

by:

i bought this hub to adapt a 30's era Ford spoked wheel to my motocycle sidecar. it fits the wheel perfectly. it will take a bit a creativity to match it to my axle, but i knew that would be needed when i ordered it. it's a good solid piece.

by:

Was very pleased with the trailer hub .We couldn't find one anywhere else! Would use etrailer.com next time we need anything!

by:

I was really disappointed that the Dexter Hub included wheel bearings made in China, they were poorly constructed and luckily I kept my "made in Mexico" wheel bearings and installed those instead!

by:

Product arrived in good condition. Installation was smooth and easy. The only problem that I had, mainly my fault, was installing the dust caps. The fit was extremely tight to the point I bent it up then it would not fit properly. One thing I would suggest to others is to install and tighten as you would normally, then wait a day or two and try to wiggle the rim. If it does pull the cotter pin and tighten again. IF you can not wait then do check them after the first usage.

by:

product a Hub and bearings were as expected-New, the bearing cap was thin and crushed when trying to get it to seat but it did finally work the unexpected thing was the fast service it had to be shipped the same day as I called in the order. That means downtime was less!! Thanks and I will be using you again!!

perfect. quick shipping and customer service tops!

by:

Well, I can't say much about the product itself - seems to be just fine. I can, however, comment on the superb service - our shipment was "upgraded" without even asking. We ordered the part on a Saturday and had it on Wednesday. That's how you keep customer coming back!!

by:

Ordered my part for my pontoon boat that was next go impossible to find anywhere on Monday morning and ups delivered it on wensday afternoon! I haven't put the part on yet due to weather but I'm happy so far!!!

by:

by:

Haven't installed it yet but the construction of the part looks to be very high quality! I am very happy with my order

by:

The product that I ordered was what I needed and delivery was very great. Def got my business

  • How to Choose Correct Idler Hub Replacement for Dexter Axle 8-256 Hub
We have a few different options for the Dexter 8-256 hub. They all use the same # L68149 inner and # L44649 bearings, you just need to verify what bolt pattern you have and then order based off of that: - 5 on 4-1/2 # 84545BX - 5 on 4-3/4" # 845475UC1 - 5 on 5" # 84550BX - 5 on 5-1/2" t # 84555UC1 To verify the bolt pattern on a hub with 5 bolts you'll measure from the center of one bolt to the far end of either bolt that's opposite of that bolt. • How to Determine Replacement 5 on 5-1/2 Inch Bolt Pattern Hubs 2004 Yacht Club PLC Trailer
The elements that would need to match up are the inner and outer bearing reference number, the capacity and the bolt pattern. The 5 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern idler hubs we offer use a L68149 inner and L44649 outer bearing. Your existing bearings should have the bearing reference numbers stamped on the bearing cages. If not, measure the surfaces on the spindle where the inner and outer bearings ride. The spindle at the inner should be about 1.378 inches in diameter and 1.063 at the outer....

  • Trailer Hub Recommendation for a Trailer with Inner Bearing L68149 and Outer Bearing L44649
Are the wheels you plan on installing on your trailer wheels that were specifically designed for trailer use? Wheels with that much offset are not usually found on trailers, especially in the diameter you have. Aside from that the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 84557UC3 and the # 84555UC1 would work well since the bearing numbers match what you have as well as the bolt pattern. Just so we're both on the same page, offset is the distance the centerline of the wheel is from portion of the...

  • How to Determine the Correct Replacement Trailer Idler Hub
To determine the correct hub for your trailer you will want to go by the inner and outer bearing numbers stamped into the metal of the bearings. With these numbers I can determine which hub is a correct fit. Hub # 84555UC1 uses inner bearing # L68149 and outer bearing # L44649. The inner bearing # L68149 has an inner diameter of 1.378 inches. • Why Cant You Run 16 or 17 Trailer Wheels On Trailer with 3,500 Lb Axle
The limiting factor for trailer wheel size is going to be either clearance or the hub. It's pretty obvious why you'd run into clearance issues if you don't have room but the hub is not so obvious. The reason there is a limitation here has to do with surface area on the hub and the contact it makes with the wheel. This is why all trailer hubs have a wheel size rating. There is also a concern with bolt pattern and the lack-there-of larger patterns on these smaller hubs. The Dexter Trailer...

  • Can 17 Inch Wheels be Used with 3,500 Pound Trailer Hubs
The Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 84555UC1 referenced in your question is designed for 3,500 pound axles and works with 13 inch to 15 inch wheels, like you mentioned. The potential problem with going to a larger 17 inch wheel is that there won't be enough surface area on the hub to safely support a wheel of that size. This can cause major issues if you were to hit a curb or other object in the road with the trailer, as this lack of support from the hub can easily lead to the wheel...
