Straightforward Hub Replacement: Everything You Need in One Package

The Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb axles (part #8-91-05UC1) takes the guesswork out of replacing your old or worn hub. It comes complete with inner and outer bearings (L44649, 1.063" inner diameter), races (L44610), grease seal (10-9 with 1.500" inner diameter and 1.987" outer diameter), grease cap, wheel bolts, and lug nuts. That means no piecing together components—everything’s ready to go in one shot so you can get back on the road faster.

Exploded view of a 4-bolt trailer hub assembly showing hub body, bearings, races, seal, dust cap, and lug nuts arranged in order for installation.

No Guessing on Fit: Designed for Common BTR Spindles

This hub is made for 2,000-lb trailer axles with BTR spindles—one of the most common setups out there. The 4 on 4" bolt pattern and 5-1/2" hub flange diameter make it easy to match to standard wheels from 10" to 12". If your existing bearings read “L44649” and your seal surface measures about 1.5", this one fits right in without modification.

Built Solid for Everyday Use: Iron Construction That Lasts

The sturdy iron build handles steady towing loads and holds up well under regular use. With a 1,000-lb weight capacity per hub and 1/2" wheel bolts, it’s made to stay tight and roll smooth over the long haul. Once properly greased and torqued to 75–85 ft-lbs, you’re set for reliable performance mile after mile.

Easy Setup Without Extra Tools: Pre-Installed Races

Getting races properly seated can be tricky if you’re doing a repair in your driveway or on the roadside. This Dexter hub saves time because both inner and outer races are already pressed in from the factory. Just pack the bearings, add the seal and cap, slide it onto your spindle, and finish with your spindle hardware—no hammering or alignment frustration needed.

Reliable Fit for Refurbishment or Spare Use

Whether you’re restoring an older trailer or keeping a backup hub ready for emergencies, this assembly keeps things simple. Because it uses standard L44649 bearings and a common 4 on 4" bolt pattern, it’s an easy match for many light-duty setups. Clean fitment, complete hardware, and dependable Dexter quality make it a solid go-to for quick fixes or full rebuilds alike.

Note

Some axles rated at 2,000 lbs require a different seal and bearings. Be sure that the bearings in the hub being replaced have L44649 stamped on them.

Determining Bolt Pattern

1. Count the lug holes

Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).

Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug

2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.

Center to Center
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"

2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).

Center to Outside Edge
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Great response time and follow-up. I ordered this hub assembly on a Friday and received it on Tuesday. Everything needed was in the package to replace a damaged hub and bearings on a small trailer a friend and I are rebuilding. I did find damage to one of the bearings when I received it. I called etrailer, spoke to Ashley and another bearing was shipped that day. If I need any other trailer parts etrailer will get my business.

by:

Ordered a set of these for my PWC trailer. Fit great but I should have ordered some codder pins. Don't forget those when replacing your bearings. Some of the paint came off, but no big deal. Bearings looked great and roll super smooth now.
Order some bearing buddy's with this too for any watercraft trailer. BB1980A

by:

I'm modifying an old boat trailer to transport my HD Fat Boy. The price of e-Trailer's wheel hubs was so reasonable, I opted to replace my old ones. I was in no real hurry to receive them but the new hubs arrived promptly anyway and they were just as represented in the catalog. Upon installation, I sensed the need for a special washer between the outer bearing and the hub nut. Calling the 800 number, I received a prompt and detailed explanation. I couldn't be more pleased, because these folks really focus on customer satisfaction. Pap.

by:

perfect fit I got all new parts the hub bearings races and lug nuts for $5.00 more than I paid for the 2 sets of bearings and nothing else my only complaint would be the hub cap didn't fit no matter what I did .great service I had to ask some questions and Jena was a real help great store and thank you Jena

by:

Hub itself is better quality than the original hub I replaced on the trailer. I am extremely happy with the hub and it rates excellent. However the bearings, grease seal and cap are very cheap parts made in china. They rate poor in my book. What do you expect from a $3.25 China bearing? I installed the dry bearing into the race to check fit and it had flat spots and wobbled as I spun the bearing. All four bearings in 2 kits all had the same problem. I purchased 4 SKS bearings from local parts store @ about $8.50 each. They spin perfectly in the race. I upgraded the grease seal to a double lip instead of the single lip in the kit. I installed the cap with a rubber mallet and block of wood but they are thin and dented badly before they seated. They may work if you had a large socket or a collar that fit around the lip but if you contact the center of the cap in any way it will dent badly. I will replace those with a bearing buddy or better quality cap someday. What is the point of an assembly if you have to replace the substandard parts within it? Cheap bearing and single lip grease seal may work fine with light duty local hauling but I plan to run several hundred miles and believe I need better bearings and seals to handle the long miles without trouble. I did a 220 mile test trip yesterday and the hubs did not build any heat at all after the parts upgrades. I am not telling people to not buy this hub because the hub is excelent quality but I am telling people to plan on upgrading the bearings, seals and caps if they need a top quality trouble free assembly. Now let me tell you the good news. The price of the assmebly from Etrailer is good enough that even after the upgrades, the price is better than other hubs I found locally or on the web. Buy it but upgade it for the best possible hub assembly. I plan to purchase one more assembly from etailer as a back up. I do not want to be several hundred miles from home without a replacement I can install on the road if needed. Best $35 "insurance" I ever spent.

by:

This was an exact fit for what I needed; very heavy duty. I was able to assemble and install the items with ease, especially after viewing their product installation video. E-trailer is such a nice company to deal with anyway. Their personal, friendly -- and fast -- service are all reasons why I love shopping with them.

by:

Many of my old garden tractors came with 8" rims and sealed wheel bearings, these bearings and small tires on a 1000 lb machine made steering hard and wore out bearings. I am in the process of converting many of them to 4 bolt hubs like this cast iron Dexter hub. They make steering with two fingers possible, great product for a upgrade on an old garden tractor, especially if you are going to add a loader or front plow

by:

I needed to replace the hubs on my jon boat trailer. Etrailer had the exact hubs I needed, in stock. The description in their shopping cart made it easy to order the right part. They shipped promptly and I received the order within a few days. The hubs were well packed. Their quality is first rate. They even included bearings, seals, races which came installed in the hubs saving me some time (thank you!), and lug nuts at a price that was less than the bearings and seals alone were going to cost me at a local auto supply store. A diagram on their web site showed me how to install the innards and I installed both hubs on my trailer in a little over an hour. Thanks again, Etrailer.

by:

1 the tech service is top notch, Ricky is great he was perfect at guiding me to the proper product

2 Shipping was super fast, less than 24 hours true they are 1 state away, however they were on it

3 Product, hubs seem fine (not installed yet, paint) however the bearings, grease cap and races are all Chinese ,the grease caps were bent , and too cheap to use, the bearing retainers on a couple of pieces were somewhat out of round, I ordered some American made ones , they rhyme with" bimikin" ...do this, keep off of the side of the road.

by:

My trailer had different sized hub which had me confused when trying to replace the bearings. The new hub fit and worked great and now it matches the other side.

by:

I am converting an old Coleman camper into a one room toy haler (model airplanes). The bearings in the wheels were shot. This pair of new hubs and bearings were cheaper then I could get the old hubs rebuilt locally. Also the old hubs had break drums I no longer needed. So the new hubs were lighter. Hubs look great and worked great. The new dust covers were not so great but my old caps worked. Shipping was unbelievable fast. All good stuff.

by:

The actual hub is of exceptional quality as it is a cast hub and is a giant improvement over the tubular steel w/welded on lug plate I took off. Was not impressed with the fact that the MFG did not pack these in a cardboard box and just wrapped all the parts around the hub with tape, paint job on the hub was not the greatest but did not matter to me as I repainted it a different color to compliment my new wheels, the dust cap is flimsy and easy to dent unless you cut a notch the width of a hacksaw blade 1/2 way to the stop ring but again did not matter to me for anything but to keep the paint off the bearing race as I used my old bearing buddies. The hub is of automotive quality and I give it a 10 for quality, cost, fit and my hat's off to the service at Etrailer.

by:

Ordering was fast and easy, shipping was quick. The Dexter hub kits were a good replacement for the boat trailer I put them on but the grease seals included in the hub kit were not the size I needed. I knew it when ordering so I just ordered the correct size seals at that time.
I've ordered from etrailer several times......never had an issue. Good customer service and support.

by:

The hubs and bearing fit my seadoo trailer great. The reason for one star down is that the grease seals were the wrong diameter to seal on my axle and seeing as how this was a Saturday and I was 125 miles from home (trying to get this trailer road ready) I had to buy seals from a local auto parts store at $8.00 each (prices suck when your out in the country without many choices).
Overall very pleased with the service and products.
I would definitely visit etrailer again for my trailer needs.

by:

I recently purchased a set of hubs and bearings for my Jon Boat trailer. I purchased 4 on 4 hubs to put 4.80 X 12" tires on the trailer. Delivery was very fast. I received the hubs in two days.
However, the hubs and bearings I purchased would not fit the trailer axle.
I contacted etrailer.com and explained that the internal diameter of the bearings was much too small. The ID was 1" and the spindle of the axle was 1.25". They checked their inventory and could not find bearings with 1.25" ID. They agreed to allow me to return the hubs and bearings. However, after considerable looking I found that the axle is non-standard for this type of trailer and no one has hubs (4 on 4 for 4.80 X 12" tires) to fit the axle. I ended up purchasing a proper axle and installed the hubs I had purchased from etrailer.com. The people at etrailer.com were very considerate and helpful. I recommend them highly.

Working well. I am very pleased with the Dexter products. I have used enough axles, hubs, bearings over the years to know it is worth it to seek out quality name brand components like Dexter.

by:

My old trailer hubs were made of cast iron and the cup portion was machined and impossible to keep smooth. The new hubs were machined for the cups and were already installed. Next time when I need to repack the hubs and inspect the bearings I will have the option of putting in new cups and cones making them new allover.
Thanks for a great product at a great price!!

With almost 1500 miles on the trailer I have had no issues with the hubs or bearings. I did learn to keep a log of the miles on my trailer so I can keep track when to do maintenance on the bearings.

I have a small 1200 lb Harbor Freight Tool trailer. The original bearings blew out and I had to replace the bearings, seal and hub. Went to our local Colorado Springs bearing supply house. I bought the hub, seal, bearings and cap for less that what they charged for one bearing, bought tires too - for less and better quality than what Discount Tire charged. Will be coming back

Jerry M, In 2012 I replaced the spindle, bearings and tires on my Harbor Freight trailer. I had a local welder put the new spindles on the axle. Since this time, the trailer has remained true, no bearing issues, and no tire wear issues. Approx 2500 miles since then. Very happy with my decision to use eTrailer. Just wish they used FedEx and not UPS

by:

The staff at e-trailer was very helpful and informative regarding their product. I learned several things about trailer equipment, in general from the staff, as well. I especially appreciated their efforts to assist me in solving a problem that arose several weeks after I had received the tires and wheels that I had ordered. The fix was to replace the existing hubs (4.5 inches) with new ones that were the standard 4.0 inch hubs.

I am still relying and using those products purchased from e-trailer.

by:

The hub seemed to be of very good quality. It shipped out and I received it very quickly. I have only one issue and that was the grease cap seemed a tad small and was extremely difficult to put on without damaging, but in all fairness that could be my lack of experience installing them rather than a product issue. before an after pictures attached

by:

I've attached some pics of the smoker I'm building using the hubs and spindles I purchased from you. Thanks for the quick shipping. Hubs and spindles fit perfect.

by:

What I wanted. Quick shipping. What more can you ask for.

by:

Purchase a pair of hubs and leaf springs plus assorted hardware for an old trailer restoration. The pricing was great and the quality and shipping were equally as good. The trailer is a 1999 Haulin which seen it's better days. Thanks to Etrailer, I was able to order everything I needed at one time.

  • How to Determine Correct Hub Replacement for 1994 Jayco Eagle SD with Dexter Axle
I'm happy to help find a hub replacement for your Jayco Eagle, but in order to find the correct one, I'll need to know the inner and outer bearing numbers as well as the grease seal inner and outer diameter. You could alternatively use a digital caliper # PTW80157 to measure the portion of the spindle on which each component rides. From your photos it appears your wheel bolt pattern is a 4 on 4, but you'll want to confirm that just to be sure. Below are a couple diagrams to help.

The part # 8-91-05UC1 SHOULD be an exact replacement. However we need to double check your grease seal measurement. Double check to make sure you don't have a 1.5 inner diameter seal with outer diameter of 1.9. You can also measure the spindle where the seal rides as well. • Recommended Replacement Hub for Dexter 8-91A
I reached out to my contact at Dexter regarding the numbers you gave. They couldn't match anything and suggested that you most likely have a 8-91A, which is a 4 on 4 bolt pattern. That is a very basic trailer hub assembly and the replacement part is # 8-91-05UC1. This assembly comes with the L44643 bearings, the grease seal, the lugs and the grease cap. I'd suggest a bearing packer like # PTW1218 and the Industrial Strength Grease # L11390.

  • Replacement Hub Assembly For Utility Trailer

These are 4 on 4 hubs and include the bolts on the hub and also include the lug nuts. You will need to order part # RG06-010...

  • Do Trailer Hub Assemblies Come Assembled, Greased and Ready for Installation
The Trailer Hub Assembly - 2,000 lbs Axles - 4 on 4, item # 8-91-05UC1, does not come assembled. You will need to work grease into the bearings and hub and clean the spindle on your trailer before installation. You will also have to install the seal in the back side of the hub once the inner bearing is greased and installed. I like to use a small piece of 2X4 and lay the seal as straight as possible on the hub and tap the 2X4 with a hammer spinning it as I go around the seal, until it is...

  • Replacement 4 on 4 Trailer Hub Assembly for 13 Inch Wheels
We do have the Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly # 8-91-05UC1 that is compatible with 13 inch wheels. This has a 4 on 4 bolt pattern with a # L44649 inner and outer bearing. The hub assembly will fit 2,000 pound axles. I recommend pulling the hub on your trailer to confirm the bearing numbers. These will be stamped onto the bearings themselves but you can also measure the trailer spindle if they cannot be found. I have attached an image that shows the measurements needed. I have also attached...

  • Trailer Hub Compatible with Caliper Measurement for Camping Trailer Axle
Based on your photo it does appear you have the BTR spindle that takes the 1.063 inch inner bearings. The fact that it isn't a digital caliper with the precision of that thousandth does leave slight ambiguity but I am still confident you will want the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 8-91-05UC1. You will not need the # 8-91-05UC1-EZ you asked about because you don't have the grease zerk in your spindles. To confirm fit, I recommend putting your caliper on the grease seal location...

  • Replacement Bearings and Seal for EZ Lube Hubs on #9 Torflex Axle
Based on my research the Torflex #9 axle (2,000-2,200 pound capacity) features spindles that use the # L44649 inner and outer bearing. This bearing has an inner diameter of 1.063 inches. The grease seal used on the spindle has an inner diameter of 1.50 inches like the TruRyde # 10-9. For a complete kit that includes the bearings, grease seal, cotter pin, and EZ Lube spindle washer you can use part # BK1-150.

  • Hub, Rim and Spindle Recommendation for 13 inch Wheel with 4 on 4 inch Bolt Pattern
For a hub with a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern that can fit 13 inch wheels with the pilot diameter of 2.5 inches the part # 8-91-05UC1 would be what you would need. For a white rim to fit this the part # AM20222DX would work well. Then for a spindle for the hub to fit on you would want the part # TRU44FR.
