Video Transcript for Complete Breakdown of the Replacement Hitch Lock Pod for RockyMounts Bike Rack

Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we take a look at this replacement Hitch Lock Pod for the Rocky Mounts Bike Rack. Now, this part will replace the Hitch Lock Pod that's needed on your Rocky Mounts BackStage, MonoRail, SplitRail, or TailPipe bike racks. It does include the lock core and the key. And if you notice on it, it has a nice rubber protective cover that once it's locked on there you just push it over there and it'll keep any dirt or grime from getting into the lock cylinder.

Now, this pod has run a lock to the end of the threaded anti-rattle hitch bolt that inserts through your hitch and the shank of your bike rack. And once you thread that bolt in, once it's all the way through and tightened down, then you just put this pod onto the end of it, and it'll lock it into place. Now, this will work on many different model bike racks. We've mentioned the different styles. If you go to the product page for this part number it will even list the different part numbers of the bike racks this will work on.

And then basically, once it's installed on there, to remove it, all you have to do is take the cover up, you'll see your lock there, put your key in there, and once your key goes in, you just twist it, just like that, and that'll allow you to remove it. And basically, what's nice, it is a two-sided key so it doesn't matter which way it goes in. You can go in either way. Just like that. And then once it's all locked on there, you just put that cover over there.

But that should do it for the review on the replacement Hitch Lock Pod for the Rocky Mounts Bike Rack..

Overall these are a decent upgrade from the locks that come with the RockyMounts Monorail. Those locks are basically a lock core with a plastic housing; these have a metal casing that should make them more resistant to opportunistic attacks. The casing, dust caps, and auto-locking action are definite improvements. From what I gather, the cores are the same between the two products.

I am annoyed that these ship with a single key. It looks as though replacement keys can be purchased by using the code stamped on the key, but this seems like an odd thing to scrimp on for a lock.

Perfect fit for my Rockymounts Guiderail 2. Shipped quickly.
by:
I have yet to install since I'm waiting for my appt date @ U Haul to have the hitch receiver installed. Appreciate greatly that both locks are keyed the same. When comparing to the original locks that came with the monorail solo, these are an upgrade.

E-Trailer's Lock pod for RockyMounts bike rack is the perfect replacement for the cheap plastic locks that came with the rack. This lock pod was not so easy to find. Glad E-Trailer has it in stock.
by:
Replacement lock is much better quality than the original product. Always appreciate e-trailer!
by:
Rocky Mounts pod lock was out of stock on their website. I purchased the replacement pod lock from etrailer. It works just as well and it’s metal as the the OEM one is a hard plastic or polymer
by:
2 locks came worked great and were keyed alike!
by:
We bought this as a replacement for the one that we lost. It appears to the perfect replacement and should work great.
by:
Nice quality. I order 2 didn't think they would be keyed alike appreciate that or sites charge extra
by:
Quick shipping, awesome products.
by:
Great replacement lock, will be able to rack and bikes secure
by:
While I love these locks I was very disappointed when key for the new lock is different from the one I lost. Since I need two locks for the mount, one for the hitch and the other to lock the bikes, it’s a pain to have two different keys. Had I known this replaces the old lock I would have ordered two. Not too happy about this change.
by:
Great service and came with matches keys for both lock pods...as requested! Thanks, Ashton R!! I appreciate it
by:
Customer service was great keeping me updated on the progress of my backordered items.
by:
Two keys would have better. My bad I didn’t specify the key number
by:
The new lock seems to be an improvement over the ones that came with the rocky mount bike rack. It appears to be a little more substantial and more secure than the old ones. Only issue was it took almost a year to receive. But happy with the lock.

Tel qu’attendu
(As expected)
by:
Much better than plastic original lock from rocky mount
by:
Helpful customer service.
by:
This lock pod replaces the plastic version which came with my bike rack. It was out of stock on the RockyMounts website so I was happy to find it at etrailer.
by:
heavy, solid, lock. works well. got delivery in time for my trip. thanks!
by:
On-time delivery, part worked as intended and was easy to install.
by:
They were great! This part was on back order so it took a couple of months to get to my small mountain town but the staff were transparent/communicative and honest about what’s beyond their control and what is. These guys are legit 10/10 would buy from them again.
by:
Perfect replacement for lost lock. Communication with etrailer was amazing.
by:
Disappointed that only one key is included!

  • How To Make Multiple Lock Pods For Rocky Mounts Bike Racks Keyed Alike
Hey Patrick, I do have a solution for you, but when ordering the Rocky Mounts Lock Pods # RKY12006 they will not be Keyed Alike as Rocky Mounts just sends us random key codes. With that said, you can rekey the pods with # RKY12006 which will make both locks keyed alike. How are you liking the Rocky Mounts Rack?

  • Higher Quality Lock for RockyMounts MonoRail
Hey David! You can replace the default plastic lock pods with the metal Replacement Hitch Lock Pod for RockyMounts Bike Rack # RKY12006. • Replacement Anti-Rattle Threaded Hitch Pin For RockyMounts MonoRail Bike Rack
Hey Jim, If you're needing something right away the Thule hitch pin lock # TH62RE has the same M12 x 1.75mm thread pitch as the original RockyMounts hitch pin and I physically tested it with the lock # RKY12006 and found that it's compatible. We don't currently offer the RockyMounts hitch pin but I'm working on getting it added. With it being the holidays it probably won't be available until next week if you're willing to wait? *Update* The RockyMounts thread hitch pin is now available...

  • Can Multiple Rocky Mounts Lock Pods RKY12006 Be Keyed Alike?
Hi Nigel! There is a chance when ordering two of the Replacement Hitch Lock Pod for RockyMounts Bike Rack # RKY12006 that they will have the same key/core number, but I can't guarantee it. Rocky Mounts sends these to us as a mixed bag of numbers and they pretty rarely match each other. More than likely you will get two different key numbers. With that said though, you could also grab the RockyMounts Lock Cores # RKY0332. This will have two matching keys and cores and can be used to swap...

  • Replacement Hitch Pin for RockyMounts BackStage
Hey Brian! The replacement from RockyMounts # RKY27MR along with the lock pod # RKY12006 is your best option for your BackStage # RKY10002. Occasionally these crossover between brands but most of the companies don't like to list the specs so you use their parts and not something else. Without testing it directly we have no way of knowing if another option will fit.

  • Locks for RockyMounts MonoRail Bike Rack
For the regular locks the best upgrade is the # RKY12006 you mentioned. The bolts and hitch pin are bike rack specific so you need to stick with something that fits those. These locks will have a sturdier housing since it isn't plastic so they would hold up better against a thief. Outside of that you could add a heavy-duty cable like Trimax Trimaflex Cable Lock # TMX24ZR. This is 6' long and has a 1" diameter so it takes some work to get through it. Between the three you will have a pretty...

If you need a new threaded hitch pin you'll have to reach out to the manufacturer. The Threaded Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin Lock for etrailer Cargo Carriers is not compatible unfortunately.

  • Removing Locks On A RockyMounts Bike Rack Without The Keys
That is a tricky one. It might be possible to get you a replacement key for your RockyMounts BackStage # RKY10002. We would need to know the key number. This can be found usually on the key itself, or on the face of the lock core. RockyMounts key numbers usually start with the letter E, followed by 3 digits. Other than that, there is no way to get it unlocked without keys. This is by design. Otherwise what good is the lock you know? In some cases we have removed lock cores by drilling...

  • Replacement Hitch Lock For A Bike Rack With N165 Key
Is this lock on a Thule brand bike rack? The N165 is a known Thule key number. If you can tell us specifically what brand and model of bike rack you have it will really help to narrow down what parts you need. If it is a Thule, we have the Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock # THSTL2 which replaces the entire lock and pin on most of the newer Thule hitch mounted bike racks. It is possible to get the lock housing # 753-3725-02 by itself if that is all you need. You would also need a new lock core...

  • Availability of Keyed Alike Lock Pods for RockyMounts WestSlope 3
There is a way to make the Replacement Hitch Lock Pod # RKY12006 keyed alike but they won't come that way by default. What you can do is order the two lock pods and then swap out the cores for a matching pair using # RKY0332. The other option is to order them and after they show up choose one of the lock cores to keep and order a single like the E110 # RKY0331-E110 that matches whatever lock number you have. However, some of the single lock cores cost about the same as the pair so it would...
