What's up, everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out this replacement for the cable lock on your Yakima HoldUp bike carriers. So this is gonna be just in case somebody maybe came along and tried to break into your bike rack. Maybe they cut it or it just damaged over time. You've got invested in the HoldUp, it's been working really well, you've had it on the back of your vehicle for quite some time. I'm seeing some customers say that maybe the red here cracked, it just looks discolored.
They don't like that. They want a replacement, Well, you can do that with this part. Let's check it out. This is the cable lock we're gonna replace today. And I just want to point out everything the kit is gonna come with.
The kit's gonna come with a new stud to attach to, a new clip, a new plastic cover here, and of course, a new cable lock right there. Now the only thing it doesn't come with is a lock core. So you're gonna have to get a new lock core or have the kit where you can pull that out and then put it into the new one, if you want a lock on there. Otherwise, though, you've got everything you need, except for the tools. We're just gonna get a screwdriver, and we're gonna start taking this apart.
How we're gonna do this is take the screwdriver and work parts of this clip up. Just kind of push on it a little bit. On both sides. And that clip will slowly scoot up and off of that stud. Now that off of there, I can pull this out.
You can push the stud through just like that. Put the screwdriver down. Now it seems the cable was in the way. So just work this out and now we're gonna move the whole cable and the plastic sleeve. Now we'll come back with our new parts. Slide our plastic sleeve back on. It only go so far, so it all makes lines with that hole, that's nice. And we'll go put our cable lock through. Get to right about there. Then we'll take our stud and put that back through. Right there, you see how it comes in a little bit there on the stud, that's where we're gonna put the clip back on too. Now, we'll bring our clip, push that back down on it. Just being careful not to bend it, but put enough pressure so it slides into place. There we go and now it's all attached. Overall, really is that simple to replace the cable lock. I really liked the fact that they sell the replacement parts for it. So you don't have to buy a whole new rack if this one part breaks. It's easy to swap that out pretty quickly. And now we can get back on the road with our bikes. And thanks for hanging out. And I hope this helped..

Replaces the cable lock assembly for Yakima HoldUp bike carriers (Y02443, Y02443-2, Y02445, and Y02446).Fixing the cable lock on my Yakima HoldUp rack that got dragged on the highway (user error!!) was a breeze with this kit, AND I also got a replacement lock core from Yakima so all my locks are keyed alike again.
I only bought these because they cut it off within the first week, there were much larger locks on the bikes, but they took it all. I bought this and put them back on, but they don’t seem to actually lock. So I don’t use them.
I had been looking on the Yakima site and other bike-related sites for repair parts for my tray bike carrier. In the process of stealing my bike off a Yakima rack, the thieves cut the security cable & tire strap. Online I found etrailer carried the parts. Called, asked a few questions & ordered the parts.

She compiled all of the parts I had to have to correctly install the lock cables including the lock cores, matching keys, and the special key to make it all work. I forgot to put my cable lock on it’s securing pin. The cable locked was dragged on the road for at least 6 miles and got shredded. Not knowing a an assembly can be ordered, I went to etrailer. The price was competitive and shipped fast via ground shipping.
this product really fit the bill however it's unfortunate that the way that Yakima designed this product that every time you have to double check the lock to make sure it doesn't fall out
