1450R Rack on Car

The Sport Rider Special Edition platform-style hitch bike rack makes it simple to carry 2 recumbent bikes on the rear of your vehicle. The rack has extra-long locking arms to hold recumbents with wheelbases up to 74" long and wheel hoop adapters to accommodate the smaller front wheels on recumbents. A locking hitch pin with an anti-rattle system tightens the rack's shank to your hitch receiver to prevent it from rattling around inside the receiver.

Locking, Ratcheting Hooks

Constructed of rugged steel with a sleek black powder coat finish, the Sport Rider SE2 uses locking frame hooks to secure your bikes. The ratcheting hooks are easily adjusted along the vertical mast and lock securely in place. The push buttons allow the hooks to slide up the ratcheting system to allow for bike removal. The lock cores keep the hooks from being moved up or down on the mast to deter theft. The hooks are different sizes and each one functions independently, meaning the rack can carry 2 bikes of the same or different heights.

Adjustable Wheel Holders

1450R SE2 Wheel Holders

The wheel holders accommodate bicycles with wheelbases up to 74", and you can adjust the wheel hoops by sliding them along the horizontal arms. They are secured in place with hand knobs. Velcro-like hook-and-loop straps secure your bike's wheels to the holders.

The included pair of wheel hoop adapters easily attach to the wheel holders to accommodate the front wheels of recumbent bikes or 1 kid's bike with 16" or 18" wheels.

Folding, Tilting Design

The rack tilts, with or without bikes loaded, for easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. Simply remove the pivot pint, pull the bottom quick-release spring pin, and lower the rack.

The rack also folds up against the back of your vehicle when it's not in use. To raise the rack, just pull the upper quick-release spring pin and lift.

Easy Installation with Locking Hitch Pin

The Sport Rider SE easily installs in your hitch with the included locking hitch pin. Just slide the shank into your receiver and insert the hitch pin. The frame hook locks and the hitch lock are conveniently keyed alike.

1450R

An integrated anti-wobble handle on the front of the base unit tightens the rack's shank to your hitch receiver to prevent it from rattling around inside the receiver. You don't need to pull out a wrench every time you install the rack on your hitch - just turn the easy-to-access handle to keep the rack from rattling. A second lever secures the two-bike extension to the base of the rack.

The included 8' long cable attaches to the hitch pin to help secure the bikes to Sport Rider rack.

Pro: Holds a heavy cargo bike with a long wheelbase. Con: The foam padding on the arm holders broke apart on our first road trip and scratched both bikes. Very cumbersome to adjust wheelbase. Heavy with cheap velcro straps and foam padding. I've owned several racks over the past few decades and this by far the worst. The only benefit is that it can accommodate a heavy bike with a long wheelbase. It's been over a year since I purchased this so maybe there are other nicer options out there that will fit a cargo bike. I would recommend looking at other products. Though Etrailer customer service and transaction was very good. 365819

Just want to say how pleased I am with my new Hollywood recumbent bike rack. As the pictures show, it's easy as pie loading, unloading, securing and gaining access to my Subarus Forester's hatch. This thing is a beast in terms of strength and quality. I looked at other options for my recumbent bike where the bike actually mounts facing skyward; to the tune of 800-900 bucks! So I'm glad I found eTrailer.com bc it's the right rack for my application and wallet. 135694

Comments

Thanks for the great review! If you put your bent on the inside, can you still open the hatch when the rack is tilted back? Does the tilt option work OK with two bikes on it, or is it heavy to operate?

This rack is bomb proof. It hauls my semi-recumbent and traditional mountain bikes just fine. Super easy to load and unload bikes and the tilt feature is a BIG plus when opening the hatch on my Subaru Forester. I dont have any complaints regarding this rack and I am very pleased with the quality and design.

Love my new rack! With the two-bike extension, I can now carry my recumbent plus my wife's and kids' bikes all together. Easy to assemble and very adaptable--securely holds my 6ft+ recumbent all the way down to my five-year-old's bike. 491430

This bike rack is very sturdy. Assembly was straightforward. Packaging was impressive especially considering the weight. Mounting into the hitch receiver is solid. The flexibility to handle a std bike and recumbent is exactly what I needed. I am extremely happy with my purchase and the service from etrailer. 430097

This bike rack was even better then I thought it would be! Very well made and heavy duty. Went together especially easy and quick. Instructions are easy to follow. The rack fits my wife's long wheel base recumbent easily and still has room to grow. I put both my Rans crank forward and the recumbent on and fits perfectly. Easy to load and unload. Now we can head to more riding areas. I love it! Working with etrailer was great and they had it to my house in record time! 399588

Bought this rack a year ago and love it. We have a long and a short wheelbase recumbent and they fit great. No more removing wheels from the bikes, just easy on and easy off. I've got a picture that was taken before I had the bikes centered on the rack. It's not a great picture but you get the idea. 361501

Totally happy with the quality of this bike carrier. We needed a "specialty" carrier because on of our bikes is a recumbent and the wheel span is much longer than normal. This carrier handles our regular and specialty bike and we couldn't be happier. 292829

I bought this rack to carry a diamond frame bike and a long wheel base recumbent bike. Very few are available. The quality of this rack is very nice. Instructions are great. I have bought from trailer before and went back to them for this order. Quick shipping and quality products. I gave this 4 stars because of the process of placing the bikes on the rack. I have to move the top bar that holds the bike down almost to the point of removal to get the first bike in the rack or take several other steps to lower the center bar, etc. Not difficult to do and the rack is solid. I am very pleased with the rack. 272330

I order this product on Tuesday, after learning a order the wrong product from another vendor. It was to small for my recumbent bike which is very long. As I mention earlier, Tuesday with free shipping, it arrived Friday on the same week, from the Great State of Missouri to DC metro area. Saturday, it was on my vehicle with my recumbent bike. I had a Great 4 of July Weekend. Thank you, very much. Respectfully, DFTD. 268201

The bike rack is superior to other ones available. It takes seconds to load and unload the bikes securely. When not in use it folds up nicely. You will love it. We do!' It is perfect and keeps the bikes stable when on the road. 154524

Do you have a question about this Hitch Bike Rack?

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for Elliptigo Bikes
  • I did some research, and found that ElliptiGo offers a modified version of the Hollywood Racks # HR1450Z-R. The rack features a fork mount at the front wheel hoop that will accommodate the bike once the front wheel is removed. We do not offer the rack, but you could purchase a # HR1450Z-R and add one # HR915 for each ElliptiGo bike you wish to carry, and you'd have the same rack (see photo).

  • Difference Between Hollywood Racks Recumbent Bike Racks
  • The biggest difference is that the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2 # HR1450Z-R has a hinge system that has an easier to use and beefier pin system which allows it to have a slightly higher weight capacity at 50 lb per bike instead of the # HR1000R which has a 45 lb per bike capacity.

This rack fits 1-1/4 inch and 2 inch hitches. The 2 inch only model is # HR1450Z-R. • Modifying Bike Rack to Carry Recumbent Bike
  • It sounds like you are wanting to alter a Swagman XC rack to accommodate a recumbent bike, is that correct? Swagman does offer a replacement fold down arm, but it would simply be a replacement for the original arm, and would not be long enough for your needs. Typically, a recumbent bike is also wider than a regular bike, so in many cases simply increasing the wheelbase capability of the rack (if possible) would not do the trick anyway. The bikes will alternate directions and you can move the wheel cradles left and right to compensate for any interference between the bikes, if there happens to be any.
