When you need to grab gear fast, the BackStage doesn’t make you unload first. Its hinged arm swings the entire rack 67" away from the hitch—even with bikes loaded—so the rear is wide open for dogs, coolers, or tailgate setups. A spring-loaded pin locks it in place once extended, and closing it back up is just as easy: pull the pin, swing it in, and tighten the T-handle to secure everything.
Big builds are no problem here. Each tray supports up to 60 lbs, enough for e-bikes and rigs with wide 5.0" tires. The platform design keeps weight low and balanced, while steel and aluminum construction gives it the right mix of strength and corrosion resistance. The rack itself weighs 60 lbs, with solid welds and a 2" shank built for Class 3 hitches.
No frame clamps, no scratches. The ratcheting hooks grab each bike by the front wheel, perfect for carbon frames or custom paint. Deep, pivoting rear-wheel cradles adjust automatically for different wheelbases, and the built-in straps lock things down tight. With adjustable trays that slide 3" side-to-side, you can fine-tune spacing so handlebars don’t tangle on the drive.
Tight parking spots or packed garages aren’t an issue. A front-mounted lever lets one person tilt the rack down 30° to reach the rear or fold it up flat when not hauling. The motion is smooth, simple, and easy to handle even with bikes still on board—ideal for everyday use when space is limited.
Leave it locked and walk away with confidence. The BackStage includes keyed-alike locks for both the hitch pin and the integrated cable, keeping your bikes and rack secured together. The anti-rattle hitch pin tightens everything down to cut out wobble on the road, so every mile feels steady and solid.

Thank you for your follow up. We love the RockyMounts Hitch Bike Rack and have shown it to and recommend it to many friends while traveling. We have it on our 2018 Pleasureway Plateau TS Mercedes 3500 Van base and it’s wonderful since it swings completely to the side with the bikes still on the rack, and both of our back doors swing open for emergency exit if needed. It’s well built, sturdy, easy to use, and as we travel, I look back and the bikes hardly move at all. So we are very, very happy with it. Thank you for having such a terrific product!

Have been on several long trips on gravel roads with the rack. The rack makes it easy to load and remove the bike. The access to the back of the truck is very convenient. My road clearance is great. I have had one issue of my own creation. I misjudged the distance to my back wall in my carport and rammed the handle into the stucco wall and cracking the blue plastic handle. The wall got the worst of it. Will eventual contact Rocky Mounts and replace it. It took the hit pretty well and still works. Im not in a rush to replace. A sturdy product.

A year later, the rack has proven to be a solid choice for carrying heavy fat tire bikes and still access the rear of the vehicle. For vans or campers, this is invaluable. The one thing that would make it perfect would be a way to load bikes without having to lift them so high. This is not a rack failure per se, but having a load ramp for such a rack would make it more feasible for loading bikes that are 60 pounds.

Unfortunately, if the thief is determined enough, they will take your property regardless of the lock used. Providing a deterrent will prevent most thefts, by encouraging the thief to go after an easier target.

We travel full time in our motor home, so the rack stays on the car. It still looks good, and it is very easy to load and unload the bikes.

We love the RockyMounts Backstage bike rack. It is mounted on our camoervan and transported 2 bikes hundreds if miles. Just recently we purchased 2 RAD Runner ebikes and plan to take them on our upcoming cross country trip. We had added an 8 extender, so we also added a anti-rattle U clamp $x.x where the adapter connects to the hitch to eliminate any movement. Customer Service was invaluable when determining if we could transport the ebikes.

This rack has been so good for the transportation of our two eBikes. Its a heavy load but this rack handles it with ease. We live on the coast, Pacifica, where corrosion is a constant issue. This solid rack has not a bit of rust on it. So this rack is still 5 stars!!
