Approved for use on cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, and motorhomes - not approved for fifth wheels or towable campers

The RockyMounts BackStage fits most bikes regardless of frame design, suspension, or brake style

The RockyMounts BackStage platform-style rack lets you carry 2 bikes using your vehicle's hitch. The bike trays swing-away with bikes loaded, providing maximum access to your vehicle's cargo area. The ratcheting arms and wheel cradles secure your bikes by the wheels so there's no frame contact. Pivoting rear-wheel cradles accommodate bikes of different lengths, and they're designed to hold fat bike tires up to 5" wide. Front-mounted lever allows the rack to easily tilt down with bikes loaded and fold up when not in use. Finally, the rack includes a hitch lock and cable lock to secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle.

Swing-Away Design for Full Access to Rear Cargo Area

Swing-away design allows you to access your rear cargo area without removing bikes from the RockyMounts BackStage bike rack

The BackStage features a hinged arm that lets you swing the rack away from the rear of your vehicle with your bikes still loaded. The rack extends 67" away from the hitch, providing maximum access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. This eliminates the need to unload the bikes or remove the rack when you're loading or unloading cargo or letting your dogs hop in or out of the back.

The RockyMounts BackStage bike rack features two pull release knobs that let you fully extend the carrier

To open the hinged arm, simply turn the T-handle until it's loose, pull the spring-loaded pin, and swing the rack away from the rear of the vehicle. The arm will lock into place once it's fully extended so your hands are free to open your hatch and remove cargo.

The RockyMounts BackStage bike rack features two pull release knobs that let you fully extend the carrier

To close the rack, pull the inner spring pin and swing the bike trays back into position. The spring pin will click when the rack is fully closed. Finally, tighten the T-handle to completely secure the rack.

Front-Mounted Lever for Easy Tilting

>Fold the RockyMounts Backstage bike carrier up for additional rear cargo storage

The front-mounted easy release lever allows a single person to both tilt the rack down and fold it up with ease. The rack tilts down 30 degrees with or without bikes loaded for convenient access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. This is great for cramped parking lots where you might not have room to swing the rack out, or when you're in a hurry and don't have time to go through the process of extending and retracting the swing arm.

The T-handle on the RockyMounts BackStage bike carrier allows it to move into the closed position

The lever also lets you fold the rack up for storage when you're not transporting a bike. This is great for parking in places where space is limited such as a parking garage.

Ratcheting Wheel Hooks for Easy Bike Loading

The RockyMounts BackStage bike carrier has ratcheting hooks on pivoting upright arms hold bikes securely by the front wheels with no frame contact

The rack allows you to quickly and easily load and carry 2 bicycles on the back of your vehicle. The ratcheting arms securely hold your bikes by the front wheels so there's no frame contact. Simply push the button on the hook and slide it firmly into place over your front wheel. Each wheel hook is coated for grip and work with tire diameters up to 29".

Pivoting Rear Wheel Cradles with Ratcheting Wheel Straps

The RockyMounts BackStage bike carrier features deep, pivoting wheel cradles that slide up to 3" side-to-side to optimize bike spacing

The pivoting rear-wheel cradles allow the rack to accommodate bikes with wheelbases up to 48" long. The cradles include ratcheting, rubber straps to hold your bikes' rear wheels securely in place on the tray.

The RockyMounts BackStage bike carrier features deep wheel cradles and extra-long wheel straps accommodate fat bike tires up to 5" wide

The BackStage also comes with wheel strap extensions that attach to the standard ratcheting straps to increase the usable length and secure wider tires. This allows the cradles to hold fat bike tires up to 5" wide.

Adjustable Bike Trays

The front and back bike trays adjust 3" side to side to insure you have enough space when loading your bikes

The front and back bike trays adjust 3" side to side to ensure you have enough space when loading your bikes. Just loosen the 4 bolts where the tray attaches to the bottom of the rack, slide the trays left or right to achieve the desired spacing, and then tighten the bolts. This will prevent your bikes' handlebars from becoming tangled, and it eliminates the fear of bike-to-bike contact during transport.

Easy Installation with Threaded Hitch Pin

The RockyMounts BackStage bike carriers hitch lock deters theft

The rack installs quickly and easily with a threaded, anti-rattle hitch pin. Simply slide the shank into your 2" hitch receiver, insert the threaded hitch pin, and tighten it down with the included tool. This will reduce noise and movement while the rack is installed.

Complete Security

The RockyMounts BackStage bike carrier features a cable lock that deters theft of the actual bike platform and also the hitch itself

The BackStage comes with a hitch lock and a cable lock to deter theft of both the rack and your bikes.

Fold the RockyMounts BackStage bike carrier features a novel cable lock system

The cable lock wraps around your bikes' frames and secures to the rack with the included lock core. The cable and hitch lock are keyed alike, so you'll only need 1 key for both locks.

I ordered this on May 31st and finally got it on August 11th. We have two eBikes and the load capacity and tilt and swing functions made this rack the best one for our Rav 4 with spare tire on back. RockytMounts had to go into another production cycle before I could get it. But, totally worth the wait. eTrailer honored the original price on my original order and so I saved $155 on the $540 full price. The rack construction seems very strong while I was mounting it to my Rav 4. The mounting locks did seem a bit "cheesy" though, as they are made of plastic. But, of course, one never leaves bikes for very long where "evil" lurks! I haven't yet put the bikes on the rack but, if there are problems, I will update this review. 419774

This rack has been so good for the transportation of our two eBikes. Its a heavy load but this rack handles it with ease. We live on the coast, Pacifica, where corrosion is a constant issue. This solid rack has not a bit of rust on it. So this rack is still 5 stars!!

I really like this bike rack. It was easy to assemble out of the box and didn't take too much time to put together. it's my first platform bike rack, and it is super easy to load my mountain bike on it. The ability of this rack to swing out to the right allows me access to my trunk. I have an SUV whose rear trunk door opens from left to right and most bike racks don't allow me access to my trunk because of how my door opens. The rack is very sturdy, and is easy to use. It comes with a cable lock that isn't the greatest so you will have to use an additional lock or cable for better security. If you have a rear door that opens left to right and you have a need to access your trunk, this is the right product for you. I am very happy with it. 435745

1- Product came very fast (under 5 days) 2 - Product is exactly as described 3 - Purchasing process was very easy 4 - Product was $100+ cheaper compared to the same product on Rockymounts actual site 5 - Packaging was safe/effective and allowed for no scratching during transport 6 - Great product and would 100% buy from etrailer again The only complaint would be the directions...I saw one user compare them to Ikea directions and that is very accurate; pictures/steps were very poor. I would suggest etrailer do a video fully putting together the rack. They have several videos showing the install process, but that is the easy part. 744588

Best bike rack ever! We received our bike rack in record time, earlier than scheduled, and in time for our trip! Love the fact that not only does it hold the bike down on the wheel and not my frame, but it drops down AND swings away for full access to our 2018 Mercedes Sprinter with the barn doors. The doors can swing all the way open and hold in place as designed, so we have a complete view out the back of our van without any obstruction whatsoever. This thing is solid, and it does not budge, we know because we watched it through our camera as we drove down the road. A great investment if you have bikes you want to protect from any damage or theft, as there is also a lock and cable that goes through the bike and also locks the rack to the hitch. Fantastic customer service from etrailer as well! 512490

Thank you for your follow up. We love the RockyMounts Hitch Bike Rack and have shown it to and recommend it to many friends while traveling. We have it on our 2018 Pleasureway Plateau TS Mercedes 3500 Van base and it’s wonderful since it swings completely to the side with the bikes still on the rack, and both of our back doors swing open for emergency exit if needed. It’s well built, sturdy, easy to use, and as we travel, I look back and the bikes hardly move at all. So we are very, very happy with it. Thank you for having such a terrific product!

Got the rack to fit on our Hymer Aktiv (Ram Promaster 3500) camper van. It arrived on date promised. Directions for assembling seemed a little vague but I was able to get it put together and on to our camper. Worked great and makes getting into the back of the van much easier with the swing out arm. Due to our spare tire rack on back and low level of the hitch on the back of our van, I am using a hitch extended to add 4 inches out and up. So far so good. 647328

I’ve used this rack with countless bikes on my Subaru and Mazda B-Series. Road bikes, gravel bikes, mountain bikes of all shapes and wheel sizes. All have been securely mounted and I wouldn’t hesitate to put any bike back there. The swing away feature is priceless, however I wish it was more of a latch than a bolt type. The handle has been busted off a few times either by scraping a curb or by being bumped in a parking lot. The rack comes with an extra, but it’s kinda vulnerable. 745375

I am a 65 years old and will say I was a little intimidated by the weight the box that the rack came in. It comes in parts to assemble so after opening the box I realize I could get this together. The instructions were clear but photos of the process would have been easier for me to follow. I have a truck with a tall camper shell that has a custom built insert in the bed for camping. I decided on this rack because it looked easy to load the bikes on and it will swing out of the way when I need to access the camper. It took me about 2 hours to assemble. It was not that it was a lot to assemble but the drawings took me time to understand. Got it put together and tested the movement range of the rack and it clears the back of my 2017 Tundra with 4" to spare. The bikes were easy to load and secure. I took it for a test ride and the bikes did not shift position. The rack flex slightly but overall it rode very smooth. This looks like a winner. During assembly I thought I have not gotten a couple of small screws that I needed but after opening all the nuts and bolts packages everything was there. The two photos I took may be helpful. I wish I had not been so focused and taken more while assembling the rack. 421154

Have been on several long trips on gravel roads with the rack. The rack makes it easy to load and remove the bike. The access to the back of the truck is very convenient. My road clearance is great. I have had one issue of my own creation. I misjudged the distance to my back wall in my carport and rammed the handle into the stucco wall and cracking the blue plastic handle. The wall got the worst of it. Will eventual contact Rocky Mounts and replace it. It took the hit pretty well and still works. Im not in a rush to replace. A sturdy product.

This is an extremely sturdy bike rack that swings out of the way when the back doors on the van are opened. We travel often in the warmer season, this rack enables us to take our bikes everywhere we go. 746451

This is a good looking rack. Works well on the back of my 2014 CRV. I can fold back the rack with my bikes on it and there is enough room to step behind it to load groceries, bags, etc. If you need full access, you can swing the bikes away, but I don't I'll need to do that as much as I thought. It is heavy, not at all a problem in use, but will make it difficult to remove and reinstall if you don't have the arm strength. The box arrived pretty torn up, but not a scratch on anything inside. Loading bikes is a snap. Tighten the arm over the front wheel, one tire strap for the rear. The locks for the hitch pin and locking cable don't look like they'd survive a hit with a hammer, unfortunately. I had a problem with the handle bars of my wife's shorter bike hitting my seat, We were able to raise my wife's handle bars enough to clear. If not, I don't know what we would have done. (I wasn't going to lower my seat!) There's very little adjustment, a couple inches left or right, and you can't turn the handle bar in the wheel support. I'd make sure the handle bars of each bike is higher than the other bike's seat, or look elsewhere. 489118

We travel full time in our motor home, so the rack stays on the car. It still looks good, and it is very easy to load and unload the bikes.

We were looking for a platform swing away bike rack. I was a little worried it would be heavy to get on the Edge. Not a problem! You have to expect some weight to be a good sturdy rack. Instructions are very good! ???????? 737613

The rack is designed really well with enough strength to carry two sixty pound e-bikes. The swing out feature fits perfectly in back of my Toyota RAV4 with a rear spare tire & right swinging tail gate. No other company comes close yet for the price & follow up. 915534

Works well, we did add a pad on the hook because it would rub the front fork, also we have to reverse the TT bike so the hook go's over the rear wheel , the TT bike is a "super bike" designed frame so there is not much clearance between what would be the front down tube and front wheel if the TT bike had a brake behind the bottom bracket under the chain stays it would probably not fit , 864495

Hitch pin bolt is not long enough for a 3 inch receiver. You can not lock the rack to the vehicle. I called RockyMounts directly and they do not yet have a fix for this problem. The rack is very stable. Well built. I loaded my RAD rover and RAD runner on the rack and took a short ride. The RockyMounts Backstage 2 does move a little when going over speed bumps but no more the any Yakima hitch rack I have had. Works on my wife’s Sabaru just fine. 863884

Because if the spare tired in the Jeep, we had to get an extension so the bike rack was away from the tire. Once we figured that out, it was relatively easy to install. Like the fact the tires sit on a platform. Very stable. 863848

Just unpacked, assembled and mounted this thing. It's beautiful. Very well made with equal parts of ingenuity and build quality. Amazingly functional. Only nit I have is the locking system, which I wasn't planning on using anyway. Although it's also good and very easy to use, I'm sure I could defeat it with a little motivation and time. With very expensive bikes, I'll be using "extra" security to lock unattended bikes to either my frame or receiver hitch. Still 5 stars! 809179

Bought this bike rack to haul wife's e-bike and my mountain bike. Works great, easy to load bikes. The rack is built with quality. Sturdy and great design. Will haul nearly any style bike. The only issue is that no where is it mentioned that to use on a Jeep Wrangler with factory hitch receiver, you must use a hitch extender to clear the spare tire. Not a big deal, but would be good info when ordering rack. (If you look closely at the photos of the rack installed on a Jeep Wrangler, it does show a hitch extender installed.) 808777

This bike rack makes all the difference! I’ve had ones before that lean away from the car but being able to fully swing 180 degrees out makes accessing the trunk that much easier. I really appreciate it when I’m loading in a rolled up raft, dogs, or camping gear. The directions were clear on assembly and it came with spare straps and a spare handle. etrailer did a great video on it and it arrived at my door 3 days after the order with normal shipping. Love it! 807001

Love the rack - works great on our Jeep. This style of rack allows us to keep it on the Jeep and is easy to move out of the way when we need to access the rear of the vehicle. When you do go to move it, It is a little heavy and bulky. 805945

The team at etrailer is great to work with and their service is second to none. The Rocky Mounts bike rack and hitch extension that I purchased from them has performed extremely well and met my needs for hauling two bikes (mountain and road) back and forth from Minnesota to Colorado. The bike rack fits perfectly on my Jeep Wrangler JLU and conveniently swings out of the way when I need to access my cooler and bags in the back. I would highly recommend both of these products and trailer if you are purchasing a bike rack for your vehicle 797711

I have a solution but there is not a ramp available for the Backstage part # RKY10002. I also looked at the available ramps and didn't see any that would easily work. If you would like to upgrade the rack along with the bikes the Thule EasyFold XT 2 E-Bike Platform Rack - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches part # TH903202 is the way to go. You'll probably get closer to 90 to 120-degrees open, which is still plenty to load and unload cargo.

  • Bike Racks For a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica That Doesnt Impact Lift Gate Hatch Use
For a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, you can choose between a hitch mounted rack and a trunk mounted rack. The biggest reason for one over the other would be what kind of bikes you have. If you have a lot of standard framed bikes and don't mind giving up the use of the rear hatch, or you have a Hybrid model, a trunk mounted carrier like the Yakima FullBack 3 Bike Rack, part # Y02633 is a good pick. This is a fully featured rack that includes an integrated bike lock and a security strap for...

  • Using the Kuat Pivot for Electric Bikes on a 2018 Ram 3500 With Pleasure-Way Conversion Kit
Generally, we don't recommend using wheel-mount carriers like the RockyMounts Backstage, part # RKY10002 with bikes that have fenders, as it can bend and damage the fender. Instead, I'd recommend a frame mount like the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE For Electric Bikes, part # HLY84FR. This carrier can be used with an extender like the Kuat Pivot, part # PVP20B to create the swing-away rack you're looking for on your vehicle. This rack has a capacity of 80 pounds per bike, and sits about...

  • Recommended Bike Rack for 2003 Toyota Land Cruiser that Allows Cargo Area Access
The first thing you will need to do is click the provided link that will show you how to measure to determine how much clearance you have between the hitch pin hole in your receiver and the furthest rearward part of the vehicle, whether it be the back bumper or the rear of the spare tire (if your Land Cruiser is equipped with the rear mounted spare). You will then need to choose a bike rack whose shank is longer than that measurement. We have several swinging bike racks to choose from,....

  • RockyMounts Backstage 2 Tilting Swing away Mercedes Sprinter 3500
The Rocky Mounts Backstage 2 Bike Rack, part # RKY10002's shank has two parts that may interact with the door. The top of the swing away mechanism, and the top of the central rail of the bike rack. The top of the swing-away mechanism is 3.5 inches above the receiver shank, and the top rail of the bike rack sits 9.5 inches above the receiver shank. You can check your clearance by measuring from the top of the trailer hitch receiver on your Sprinter to the bottom of the doors. If...

  • Bike Rack That Allows Rear Door to Open with E-Bikes Loaded on Jeep Wrangler
I have the perfect solution for you with the RockyMounts BackStage 2 Bike Platform Rack # RKY10002. The BackStage rack not only tilts down but it also swings away from the hitch. We tested this awesome rack on a similar 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with a stock spare tire and we found that the rear door was able to fully swing open, even leaving some space between the tire and the closest mounted rack. I've included a link to the complete review video for you at the bottom of the page. The...

  • Using a Thule EasyFold Bike Rack on Back of a Trailer
I have a recommendation for you, however Thule does not recommend the use of any of their racks behind a trailer. Trailers put additional stress on racks because of the distance that the trailer hitch receiver is from the axle, resulting in a bigger bounce when you hit a bump in the road. There is also more rattle and shake that occurs as the camper rides, causing a greater chance that the rack could fail. Thule does make sturdy products, but they maintain their current stance of...

  • Recommended Swing-Away Bike Rack for 2018 Toyota Sienna
For your 2018 Toyota Sienna, I recommend taking a look at the RockyMounts BackStage 2 Bike Platform Rack # RKY10002. This is an excellent platform-style carrier that can actually swing out and away from the rear of your vehicle, with the bikes still loaded, to give you complete rear cargo access on your Sienna. The platform cradles can accept tire widths of up to 5 inches, so there won't be any issue with the 3 inch tires on your bikes. It features ratcheting hooks that will secure...

  • Platform Bike Rarck Recommendation for Rear of Winnebago View 24G
We have a few bike racks that are rated for use behind a motorhome like your Winnebago View 24G but the RockyMounts you mentioned is not one of them. Instead we have the Swagman Dispatch part # S44FR which is similar and is rated for RV use so it would be your best option. I attached a review video as well. This mounts in a hitch at the rear of the vehicle though so it should not interfere with a slide out.

  • Dimensions of the RockyMounts Backstage 2 Bike Rack
The shank on the RockyMounts BackStage, part # RKY10002 has the following dimensions from the center of the hitch pin hole: To the end of the shank: 2-1/2 inches To the nearest part of the carrier when folded down: 9-1/2 inches To the nearest part of the carrier when folded up: 7 inches To the furthest part of the rack when folded down: 34 inches To the furthest part of the rack when folded up: 19 inches The height of the swinging mechanism is 3-1/2 inches tall, and then 5 inches...

  • Are There Bike Racks That Tilt to the Side or Have Folding Center Mast
I'm certainly glad to hear you've been happy so far, and while there isn't anything that tilts to the side, there may be a couple racks that will remedy the situation, depending on where the camera and sensors are. The closest thing to a bike rack that tilts to the side is a swing-away rack, the RockyMounts BackStage 2-Bike Rack # RKY10002. This rack moves all the way to the side, as you can see in the accompanying photo, which may eliminate your Subaru from detecting it as an obstacle....

  • Best Bike Rack for 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
The RockyMounts BackStage 2 Bike Platform Rack part # RKY10002 is hands down the best option for a 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. This bike rack will not only clear the rear spare tire with the factory hitch but it will also swing away from the vehicle even with the bikes in place that way you can still get into the rear cargo area. The wheel mount design will allow you to carry both women's and men's bikes without an adapter. I have attached a review video on a similar model year.

  • Swing Away Platform Bike Rack Solution for Bike With Fenders
If a bike has fenders the bike racks that use wheel clamps like the RockyMounts BackStage part # RKY10002 can't be used with them as the wheel clamp of the rack would need to grab the wheel where the fender is. So a frame clamp style of bike rack like the Thule EasyFold XT # TH903202 would be the much better options. The clamps of the rack are very easy to fit all frame styles plus the rack comes with ramps to make loading and unloading easier as well. See attached review video link as...

  • Best Wheel Mount Swinging Bike Rack for a 2011 Land Rover Range Rover
I have the perfect bike rack for you. The RockyMounts BackStage Platform Rack part # RKY10002 can carry 2 bikes, secures the bikes by the wheels therefore will not damage your carbon fiber frame, and has the swing away feature that will allow access to your rear cargo area without removing the bikes from the rack. This is the only platform style bike rack we offer that meets all three of your criteria. Another great thing about this rack is that it has locks for both the bikes and the rack. I...

  • Will the RockyMounts BackStage Allow Me To Open the Rear Cargo Hatch With Bikes Attached
The RockyMount BackStage # RKY10002 really is a cool rack because not only does it tilt away from the rear cargo hatch, it can also be swung away from it as well; so either way, it's going to give you room to open the rear cargo hatch with your bikes attached in the manner that you're seeking. I've linked some video reviews of this rack for you to have a look at, but it's exactly what you're looking for.
