Trailer Hitch for a 2024 Toyota Rav4 that Does Not require Cutting into the Bumper

Updated 05/12/2025 | Published 04/20/2025

Question:

Im looking for a hitch that doesnt require me to cut the bumper. I cant tell from the expert video showing 5 options if the two Im thing about require cutting the bumper. CURT Class 2 Trailer Hitch - 2024 Toyota RAV4 and the Oris Hitches Detachable Hitch - Custom Fit - 2. The Oris one had one review that mentioned no cutting, but thats all I could find. Any help you can give me is appreciated. Thank you

Hi Stephanie! Great question and you’re totally right to ask, because most hitches for the 2024 RAV4 do require a bit of bumper trimming. That includes the Oris Detachable Hitch #TS66VR, since it uses a hidden design that needs a hole cut in the fascia for the receiver to come through.

If you’d rather skip the cutting, I’d recommend going with the Curt Class 3 Hitch #C77MJ. It bolts right to the frame and sits neatly under the bumper no trimming required. It's not completely concealed like the other options that require cutting but it's a super easy install and gives you a clean 2" hitch setup. The Class 3- 2" hitch will give you a bit more weight capacity and I think you'll really like how simple and solid it is.

However, if you need a class 2- 1-1/4" hitch for an existing bike rack or accessory with a 1-1/4" shank the Curt hitch part # C66KR that you were looking at does not require any bumper cutting either.

What are you planning to use the hitch for? bike rack, cargo carrier, towing? Let me know in the comments below! I'd love to help make sure you get the right setup.

Hi Heather, Thank you for the information, it's very helpful. I'm going to use the hitch for a bike rack mostly. I haven't bought the bike rack yet so it's helpful to know the options you suggested. I'm less concerned about hiding it and more about not having to cut since we'll be installing it ourselves. Thank you!

@Stephanie You're very welcome and thanks for getting back to me! I totally understand wanting to keep the install easy, I felt the same way when I was looking for a hitch. Since you're mainly using it for a bike rack, I'd definitely recommend the Class 3 Curt hitch # C77MJ that I mentioned. The 2" receiver will give you way more bike rack options. I attached the instructions here too if you want to take a look. I’m excited for you to hit the trails! What kind of bikes are you bringing along? I can help you find a rack when you are ready.

@HeatherA Hi Heather, Thanks for all your help! The link you attached sends me to a page that says it's missing. Any suggestions? I haven't started looking at bike racks yet since I thought the hitch would be the deciding factor in what I could get. I've got an Elctra beach cruiser, which is kind of big with a basket. And a Kona commuter bike. I'm looking for a rack that could bring both potentially, but it's not necessary. Thank you!

@Stephanie Hi Stephanie, I apologize for the delay in response. I went ahead and emailed those instructions to you. I recommend the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2 part # HLY84FR for carrying your Electra beach cruiser and Kona commuter bike. It’s one of the most reliable and user-friendly racks out there, especially for bikes that are a little larger or have non-traditional frames like your bikes. One of the biggest reasons it’s a great fit is its weight capacity — it holds up to 60 lbs per bike, which is perfect for your Electra, especially with a basket. It’s a platform-style rack, so it supports the bikes by the wheels rather than hanging them from the frame. That’s ideal for your cruiser and also makes loading easier and more stable. The adjustable hooks secure the bikes at the frame without interfering with step-through designs or front baskets, so you won’t have to worry about awkward clamping or clearance issues. Plus, the whole rack tilts down for rear vehicle access and folds up when not in use, which is super convenient. Just make sure your vehicle has a 2-inch hitch receiver like the one I recommended part # C77MJ
