Getting bikes on and off the rack shouldn’t feel like a workout. The Piston Pro’s hydro-pneumatic arms deploy with a quick tap of a lever, so they rise and hold position automatically while you set your bikes in place. Once loaded, the ratcheting arms clamp securely on the wheels—never the frame—protecting paint and carbon finishes. The wheel bridges adjust without tools for 18"–29" tires, making it just as easy to secure kids’ bikes as full-size mountain or e-bikes.
Each position on the rack supports up to 40 lbs, giving plenty of strength for electric, fat-tire, or heavy builds. The platform design carries up to four bikes, and the front two positions can be removed if you only need space for two. With wheel trays that let bikes roll front to back, you can fine-tune placement to keep handlebars from clashing. Grooved tracks fit anything from narrow 18c road tires to 5" rubber, so every setup rides solid and secure.
Reaching your cargo area is simple. The Piston Pro tilts down even with bikes loaded, so a quick pull of the spring-loaded pedal gives you space to grab gear or groceries. When the ride is over, fold the rack up for a smaller footprint. The design keeps it easy to store, park, or keep mounted without getting in the way.
A flatlock cam system tightens the rack inside the hitch to cut down on movement and noise. The included security tool fits only the Piston Pro, adding an extra layer of protection. A 12-mm braided steel cable lock secures your bikes to the rack, and a stainless steel hitch lock keeps the rack itself safe. Every piece locks together so you can step away knowing everything will still be there when you return.
For heavier bikes that are tough to lift, the telescoping aluminum ramp (sold separately) lets you roll them right onto the trays. It slides into place quickly and reaches the ground, so you don’t have to lift at all. It’s a simple add-on that takes the strain out of loading, especially when dealing with 60- to 75-lb e-bikes.

etrailer does an excellent job reviewing and showcasing its products. We spent many hours of research on the site before deciding on the Kuat. Assembly was fairly simple and quick. The features of the rack make it easy to use. Stable ride for our bikes down a wide variety of conditions (highway, dirt road, wash boards). Expensive, but the ease of use and quality make it worthwhile.
I researched tray racks for mountain bikes and knew that Kuat's Piston Pro was the best rack for my needs. I love etrailer for the how to install videos, support and pricing. If etrailer sells an item I'm interested in I purchase from them. I do this because of how hard they work for their customers. This rack is exceptional. Build quality is first class. The assembly was simple, the locking cable and hitch lock are very sturdy. My 29" wheel full suspension Specialized fits perfectly. My son's smaller Scott Mountain Bike also fits perfectly. We are getting Fat Tire Bikes and the trays support 5" tire widths. Adjustments for wheel size is simple, loading a bike is even easier. The bikes are solidly secured in place. 10 out of 10.
