Video Transcript for Hollywood Racks Crosstrack Bike Rack for 1 Bike Review - 2023 Ford Maverick - HLY27RR

How's it going, neighbors This is Ed here with etrailer.com and today we're gonna take a look at the Hollywood Racks Crosstrack Single Rider Class II Bike Carrier, for your two inch and inch and a quarter receivers. This guy right here, as you can see, is gonna be on the back of our 2023 Ford Maverick. And we're just gonna take a look and see what is adding to the back of the vehicle, what it obstructs, and what it does for us. So as you can see right here, you may notice how the bike is mounted. This is a platform style carrier that has a wheel mount. So that means you're gonna have two arms that are gonna apply pressure to your tires to keep your bike stable as you go down the road.

And as you can see, this is gonna work well for bikes where you don't want any frame contact. So if you have a cool paint job like the one that's right here, or if you have a carbon fiber bike where you don't want that downward pressure, this is gonna work great for that. As we can see on the back of our Maverick, we're not gonna really block out a lot of things on here. It is in front of your backup camera and it's in front of your tail lights, but through the spokes, you'll be able to see your lights, and you should be able to make out any major obstruction behind you with your backup camera. And the positioning of your license plate, you're gonna be crystal clear, being that it's below the shank of the bike carrier.

So that's gonna give you plenty of visibility on the back, but you still want to be cautious as far as what's behind you. Now we're gonna tilt this guy by using our lever and lean it forward. And you can see that this is gonna give us access to our tailgate. You just want to be cautious that you don't run into your pedal or anything, but that's plenty of space to reach all the way into the inside of the tailgate. Or even, you know, if you are thin enough to fit on the side of it, to put your shoes on to get ready for your ride.

Now, as far as your capacity, you're gonna go up to 60 pounds per bike, and that's gonna go up to 52 inches as far as your wheel base. So that's gonna work for a wide variety of bikes and a lot of different styles of it. So now we're gonna basically take off the bike off the carrier, and to get a better look at the carrier itself. So we're gonna press our button here just to kind of loosen up our clamps, and we're gonna use our optional ramp to lower it. So I'm just gonna let this arm all the way down and leave my front clamp in the place.

And I'm gonna grab my ramp and I'm gonna connect it in right here on the end of our cradle. You can have these two hooks, and it's the same across all of the Crosstrack models, where you just kind of feed it into place and it allows you to get your bike loaded and unloaded a lot easier. And one thing that's really cool about it is the fact that no matter where you park, you'll be able to install your bike ramp easily because it goes on either side of your cradle. Now, speaking of our platform itself, you can take a look on the inside and see that the track is gonna cover a wide variety of wheels. Your maximum width is 4 inches, but on the center, you can see that it's gonna hold up before your more thin road bikes, as well as being thick enough for your mountain bikes. You also have a front wheel chock that is adjustable, so you can slide that guy back or forward, depending on your wheel size. And that's gonna help you stay super versatile as far as the different types of bikes you can carry. As far as your wheel diameter, you can make adjustments going between 29 and 20 inches, using the holes here on the arm. Out the box, you're gonna need an Allen key to make this adjustment, but you can switch it out for the quick change spending. Now let's see what we're adding to the back of our Maverick. At the closest point to the bumper, we're right at seven inches. And overall, right at 26. You have a really good amount of rise here from the shank. And going from the ground, you are right at 13 and a half inches. Going over here at the handle, if I wanted to have more higher points, you're right at 22. So just because the the Maverick does kind of have a lower profile, you wanna be cautious going up steep inclines and driveways, but I feel that you're gonna have pretty good clearance on the back of your vehicle. So let's put it in our stow away mode. We're gonna fold it in, and it comes pretty compact, and I don't have any concerns as far as making contact with the back of the vehicle. You have plenty of space, and at your closest point you are right at five and a half inches. At our farthest point at the end of our anti-rattle, we're right at 13 and a half. So what this is gonna do for you is give you a nice, compact bike carrier for your solo emissions. Another thing that's really cool is the Hollywood Racks built-in anti-rattle. I'm gonna loosen this up a little bit so you can see what it does for you. So this is gonna basically take up the slack that you have in the shank and allow you to have a more stable support base for the carrier itself. And being more stable on the vehicle is gonna give you a longer life out of your rack, and a longer life out of your bike. Right here is our shank, and it is a solid steel shank that is two by two and powder coated. And that's gonna hold up against the abuse of being underneath a vehicle. You have a welded alignment plate that's gonna allow you to set it up where you can fit right into your receiver opening. And your anti-rattle device actually pulls back on your pin here to keep everything nice and sturdy, and they have a great positioning for your key. A lot of locks actually have the core to the side, and it makes it really difficult to lock that core. So pointing to the front makes it super easy. Now, when it comes to single bike carriers, a lot of times that's gonna be for a more serious rider. And this is gonna give that serious rider a lot of premium features at a great value. If you are wanting something that's a little bit more premium, that's a step up, the Kuat Piston Pro SR, that's a single bike rider version of the Kuat Piston Pro, that's gonna be a more premium option of a similar function. But if you we inchesre looking for something that'll just get you out because you're going from novice to a little bit more serious with your hobby, this will be a great one to roll with. So again, this is Ed with etrailer.com, taking a look at the Hollywood Racks Crosstrack Single Bike Carrier. Have a great day.
