Video Transcript for Saris Superclamp G4 Bike Rack for 4 Bikes Review - 2012 Nissan Armada - SAR69XR

Hi, I'm Matt with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be talking about the Sera Super Clamp G4 Bike Rack that's capable of carrying four bikes. Now we're gonna have this on our 2012 Nissan Armada. Now what's great about this is that this rack sits really nicely back here, and it's gonna give us full access to our vehicle, and we're not gonna bottom out with it, but it's also gonna be very accommodating to a lot of different styles of bikes. And right now you can tell we have plenty of clearance between the bike itself and the vehicle. Even if you're on a really bumpy road, this does a really good job at holding the bike in place.

We're not gonna make contact with anything now. Now, we can actually tilt it back. And this is one of the big benefits of this rack here. A lot of these larger racks that have a high capacity, since we do have a capacity of 60 pounds per bike for the first two trays, and the next two trays are gonna be rated at 35 pounds, which is something pretty common with those heavier four bike racks. We still have clearance that open up our hatch.

Typically, if you have a rack designed to carry heavier bikes, you kinda lose out on those tilting capabilities. But now with this one right here, perfect. If you wanna get ready for your ride, take a seat, tie a shoe, grab your helmet, shoes, and then you can close it up and put it back into the seated position. Now it's be fairly easy when you have one on here. If you have four that are a little bit heavier, you might wanna grab a friend to help you out there.

But let's talk about what is it like taking it off. You just have one strap on the backside and we're gonna have this ratchet and hook since we're not making any contact with the frame of the bike. Perfect for those alternative or carbon frame bikes. And what's nice about this, we're pretty much done putting it up, and now we can take our bike off and take it out for a ride. Now, something you'll notice with the strap, that's really the only thing we have to put up at this point, is that it is gonna be able to slide up and down on this tray to accommodate a wider range of wheel bases just like that.

Now, you've already noticed notice this is gonna take up quite some room in the back of our vehicle today, but that's just kind of the nature of the game with a four bike rack. And since it has some rise to a tube, even if you have some heavier bikes on here, it's only gonna drop down by a couple inches and we're not gonna bottom out, but we can save space if we were to fold it up just like this. Now I will say if I try to open up that hatch, we're gonna make contact with one of these cradles here so we won't be able to get hatch access like this. But the reason why we have the secondary position is it's designed to fit on anything like a Jeep with a type of spare tire in the back. But we don't have a spare tire, so we can put it up all the way. And you can tell this is gonna save us a lot of room back here. So keep in mind if you're in a tight spot like a parking spot or garage. Now, what it's gonna block back here is gonna be a few things. So that license plate, that's gonna be mostly obstructed, but that's gonna be just the nature of the game with most bike racks out there and your backup camera as well. Now when it comes to your taillights, it's fairly wide over here to the side, so that shouldn't be blocked at all. And we're gonna partially block our back window as well, but we do have this sensor cutout that'll give you a little bit more visibility. And the way it's gonna install is we're gonna have a two-inch shank that goes into your two inch hitch receiver. There's gonna be this smaller pin that goes through and connects to a lock core on the other side, giving you that extra security. And then we're gonna have this knob here. I like this design 'cause it doesn't require any tools. This tightens a rack down, so when you're going down bumpy roads, you don't get that rattling in your receiver. You can tell me shaking, this is actually removing the entire vehicle. Now, overall, I do think this is a solid option. Another alternative that I like a lot is gonna be the Yakima holdup That's gonna have a slightly higher weight capacity for these next two trays back here, 50 pounds each as opposed to 35 pounds each. But what I like a little bit more about this one is when it comes to tilting your back, it's gonna feel a lot more natural. It's easier to do. And it's just gonna come down to, if you can open this up with your hatch or not. The Yakima one, you might be, it is gonna really depend on the size of your handle bars. But this one here, most bike racks are gonna be able to work with your actual hatch itself. Now, if you guys do go with this, let us know how it's working for you in either a comment or review, and let us know how you liking it. But again, I'm Matt, and thanks for watching.

  • What Is the Weight Capacity of the Saris Superclamp G4 Bike Rack?
Hi Win, The Stealth Hitches Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver w/Towing Kit part # 391AUDQ818T is rated for 800lbs of tongue weight. Tongue weight is 10% the downward force exerted on the hitch, if you're pulling a trailer that limits the trailer weight to 8,000lbs because 10% of 8K is 800lbs. If you're using an accessory like a bike rack in the hitch you are limited to 800lbs because all the weight is straight down on the hitch receiver. The towing capacity of your 2026 Audi SQ8 is roughly...

  • Lightest Weight High Quality 4 Bike Rack to Replace a Thule T2 Pro XTR
Hi John, I totally understand. The Thule T2 Pro XTR part # TH69TX is a fantastic rack, but at 96 pounds it's definitely a workout every time you put it on or take it off the vehicle. If your main goal is to cut as much weight as possible, the Hollywood Racks Destination 4, Part # HR4000, is the lightest 4 bike rack we carry at just 42 pounds. That's less than half the weight of your Thule. The tradeoff is that it holds the bikes by the frame and has a 35 pound per bike capacity, so it...
