This swivel head design hitch lock from Master Lock secures your ball mount, bike rack or cargo carrier to your hitch.

The lock works as advertised. Simple, straightforward. Small point, when first inserting the pin through the receiver the O-ring can hang up on the receiver and make attaching and locking the pin difficult. This can be frustrating to account for on difficult to reach couplers (standard height SUV vs. lifted pickup truck). We’ll see how it holds up in the harsh environment it will be subjected to.

by:

Good product, exactly what I was looking for.

by:

Works great on locking my drop hitch and keeping the stealing
mother[truckers] in my town from getting my drip hitch

by:

My hitch is very close to my trailer plug receptacle. It has always been a hassle to get the trailer hitch locked because of this tight fit. This lock design, with the outward facing key access has solved that problem.

by:

The built-in receiver on our Chinook rv had very little side room to insert and lock a locking hitch pin with which to secure its receiver extension. A straight-thru locking pin wouldn't work, but this swivel head locking pin, with it's 90 degrees different end latch came to the rescue. It gave the access needed to lock the extension, it feels solid, and has a heavy duty weather protection cap. Another super thing about it is the ease with which it locks. Leave the key in it and shove the pin shaft into the latch, and CLICK--it's locked. Unlocking is just as simple.

great product...easy to use...and prevents hitch and/or cover from being stolen.

still on the vehicle and has been used all year. working out GREAT!!!

For those of you who stay in motel/hotels while on the road, or leave your boat trailer in a parking area while having fun, trailer security is important.Thieves can unhook your trailer and make off with it when you're asleep or away. This handy little device locks your ball hitch into the receiver. Short of getting a Sawsall to cut things up, when used in combination with a coupler lock, this will keep anyone from unhooking you. It's more expensive than just a standard pin, but what are the contents of your trailer worth? This thing is well-made, and has a rubber cover to keep dirt out of the tumbler. It's definitely worth the money.

I like it, easy to use, fits and works ok.

A-OK!

by:

Good locking pin, not compatible with the bike rack we purchased as the pin hole is threaded for the bolt/pin the rack comes with.

Because of the threaded in the shank of the SportRack Ridge Swing bike rack you purchased, a standard locking hitch pin wont be compatible. Id recommend the SportRack Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock, part # SR0901. You can see this lock by using the link Ive provided:

by:

Hard to get to the lock to open it.

by:

Have used it on about 8 deer hunting trips with my storage rack. No complaints. It does what it is supposed to do. The dirt cover keeps the key hole clean and the lock clips onto the bolt easy. Also the bolt diameter matches the hole on my 2016 Grand Cherokee perfectly without any play.

Thank you for checking in. I really like the hitch cover...the only problem is all of the yellow s have fallen out and the black is starting to come out as well. I know this is not your fault and your service has been great. The lock I purchased works really well.

by:

This lock is well made and works, but it is difficult to lock. It is designed with a spring-loaded and cammed locking mechanism so that you should be able to push the keyed barrel onto the shaft without using the key, but it is very difficult to do. I usually end up needing to insert and turn the key to get the two pieces to mate. This is not convenient when you are bending down and working underneath the truck's bumper. Pushing the two pieces together is already a two-handed job without having to turn the key. Other than this it is a quality product, but usability is very important.

Within 2 weeks this lock fell off while I was pulling a trailer, causing the hitch to pull out of the receiver. Luckily I had the safety chains hooked up so I didn’t lose the trailer in traffic. But I was stranded at the side of the road and had to walk to an auto parts store to get another hitch pin. This was a result of the locking mechanism being too difficult to secure. I thought it was locked correctly but obviously not.

by:

One year later, the lock is working great! It is sturdy and reliable.

I have used this bike rack lock every time I have used the bike rack itself, which has been quite often over the past year. It has held up very well and remains simple to use. It is very strong and highly secure. I have had no issues with the locking mechanism, as the included weather cap keeps dirt, debris, and water out. Another product I highly recommend.

@Keith Love to hear it! Do you have a favorite place to bike?

by:

This was a great product. It's easy to use and gave me a sense of security when using by hitch bike rack and tow bar when attaching my car to my RV.

by:

Works great. Heavy duty. Using it to attach E-Bike rack to 2 “ receiver.

by:

This is a great hitch lock for my Yukon XL with a factory hitch. Because it locks into the sude, not the end, of the keyed part it fits nicely in the recess where my hitch is located.

This hitch lock has been used frequently in the past year and has been just fine. It gives me peace of mind when my trailer is parked out of sight.

Perfect for the 2008 Honda Element SC setup! Leaves room to put the cap on and still get the safety chains hooked up.

by:

Great service. Great tracking of package. Timely delivery.

by:

I emailed first to a question and the reply came right away. Great customer service. Great website with very helpful videos.

by:

All products arrived as described. The etrailer video describing the trailer hitch installation, specifically for my vehicle was invaluable. With the help of the video I installed the hitch myself with no problems. Thanks for offering fairly priced products with quick delivery and excellent customer support.

by:

Very sturdy, should solve the problem of getting a lock on the receiver pin in very limited space on my 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander

by:

Much better than your standard hitch lock, swivel is sweet

by:

I like my Tesla Model Y, but who ever designed the hitch sucks. I had to buy a hitch extension and because there's barely any room to the side of the receiver this lock is the only one that works.

  • Replacement Keys For Master Lock Trailer Hitch Lock
Hey, Frank! That's a really good question. The Master Lock hitch lock part # 1479DAT uses a standard K1 key blank so would be really easy for a lock smith to make you some extra keys. It'll be easy to make extras for your family members or to just have a few extra keys on the key hook or glove compartment.

  • Best Locking Hitch Pin For 2026 Toyota Sequoia With Limited Space Around The Hitch Receiver
Hey Dave, thanks for reaching out. For hitch setups with limited space on either side like your Sequoia, the best option for a hitch lock is the following: - Master Lock Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock - Swivel Head Design - 2" Hitches # 1479DAT This uses a lock core that faces the rear of the vehicle instead of the side. That makes it much easier to insert and turn the key on those tight setups. I'd still want you to take some measurements to make sure the lock will work for you. It is 5-3/8"...

  • Will The Master Lock Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock 1479DAT Fit A 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser OEM Hitch?
Hi Andrew! The Master Lock Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock - Swivel Head Design - 2" Hitches # 1479DAT has 2-3/4" of useable space, but I think I would go with one that has a little more just to be on the safe side. With that said, if I were doing this, I would go with the Master Lock Stainless Steel Trailer Hitch Lock for 2-1/2" Receivers # 1469DAT. This has 3-1/4" of useable space, but the same 5/8" diameter pin. Toyota is notorious for having thick hitches and with this one you may end...

  • Right Angle Lock for RockyMounts MonoRail
Hi Jeff; is the problem that the lock end won't fit in the space you have on the Tesla or that you're unable to lock it? When I reached out to RockyMounts they said they have had dozens of customers use the Curt 23504 which has the same locking end as the 23502 you have right now. If you weren't able to get it to lock onto the end I would give it another try since that is their best solution. If not, I can see if I can pull one of the racks and try out a lock like the # 1479DAT you looked...

  • Locking Hitch Pin For Hitch On 2024 Tesla Model Y With Limited Room Around Receiver
Hello Jason, thanks for reaching out. I do have a potential solution for you, but we are not aware of a locking pin that is made specifically to be compatible with the hitch on a 2024 Tesla Model Y. Your Best option for this will be to use a lock with a swivel head design like the Master Lock # 1479DAT. This allows the face of the lock to stick straight back instead of off to the side which makes operating the lock much easier with limited clearance. The overall length of the lock is 5-3/8"...

  • Why Doesn't Masterlock Hitch Lock part # 1479DAT Have Towing Capacity
The Masterlock Hitch Lock part # 1479DAT does not have a specified towing capacity. Reason being that rarely does the hitch pin bare the weight of the trailer it's towing. The tongue weight of the trailer binds the ball mount up in the hitch which provides nearly all of the horizontal resistance to prevent the ball mount from sliding out.
