Right Angle Lock for RockyMounts MonoRail

Updated 08/06/2024 | Published 08/04/2024

Question:

I have a Rocky Mounts 2 Monorail hitch rack with a threaded hitch pin. I need a right angle lock so when installed on a Tesla Model Y I can lock the rack. I tried the CURT 23502 Right-Angle Stainless Steel Trailer Hitch Lock, 5/8-Inch Pin Diameter but it doesn't lock onto the hitch pin. Do you have any recommendations?

Hi Jeff; is the problem that the lock end won't fit in the space you have on the Tesla or that you're unable to lock it? When I reached out to RockyMounts they said they have had dozens of customers use the Curt 23504 which has the same locking end as the 23502 you have right now. If you weren't able to get it to lock onto the end I would give it another try since that is their best solution. If not, I can see if I can pull one of the racks and try out a lock like the # 1479DAT you looked at to find out if it will fit.

Hi Robin, the problem is that when I put the Curt 23504 on the end of the threaded hitch pin from Rocky Mounts, it doesn't lock. After putting the Curt lock on, I can pull it off without using the key. Perhaps there was a manufacturing issue with the Curt lock but I am looking for an alternative lock that will stay on the hitch pin. The diameter of the Rocky Mounts hitch pin measures 3/8" inch if that helps.

@JeffP alright I'll have to get out one of the bike racks in the next day or two and try some of our locks to see if they work with that pin. I'll get back to you with what I find as soon as I can. Update: Jeff tried the Curt 23504 and it fit the hitch pin.
