Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - 56094

Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring - no cutting, splicing or tapping required.

Features:

  • Provides a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights
    • Compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole and 7-pole adapters (sold separately)
  • Connects quickly and easily - no cutting or splicing of wires
    • Locate connection points behind tail lights
    • Plug in T-connector
  • Comes with dust cap for 4-way flat connector
  • Limited 1-year warranty

Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2015 Chevrolet Equinox

Today in our 2015 Chevrolet Equinox, we'll be installing the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with a 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part number 56094. To begin our install, we'll first open up the rear hatch. Next, we'll need to remove the two caps covering up the two fasteners, so that we can remove the tail light assemblies. Then, we'll remove the two screws. Once our fasteners are out, we'll go ahead and pop the tail light assembling out. Note: it can make it easier if you get in front of the tail light assembly with a flat-blade screwdriver, or we're just going to use a plastic pry tool and pop the tail light assembly out. Be careful not to break those two alignment tabs underneath.

Now we'll go ahead and remove the manufacture's wiring from the tail light assembly by pressing on the locking tab and removing the connector from the socket. With the driver's side out and set aside, I'll move over to the passenger's side and repeat the same process. Now, with both tail light assemblies out and set aside, we'll start on the driver's side taking our new T-Connector Harness with the yellow and brown wire connector and plugging directly into the manufacture's wiring on one side of the T-Connector, the other side will then go into the back of the tail light assembly. Next, we'll take the 4-pole connector along with the green wire connector and feed them down between the rear bumper fascia and body of the vehicle. Once we have them fed underneath we'll go ahead and pull the wires out, so we gain access to them. Then we're going to run the green wire connector over to the passenger side and our 4-pole flat trailer connector will also get routed to the hitch.

Quick tech tip, keep in mind when routing your wires, stay away from any moving components such as steering or suspension or excessive heat such as exhaust. Now we've made a connection with both tail light assemblies, I'm going to use some black electrical tape and tape up the wires. As I bundle the wires together I can clean-up our install look. Now, with that done, I'll go ahead and finish securing the wire. Now with our wiring harness secured underneath, we're going to go ahead and pull the remaining portion of the harness up behind the tail light assembly and then secure it. This will help ensure that our wiring harness doesn't fall down onto our exhaust or where it can be damaged.

Once we have the wiring secured, we're going to go ahead and cut off the excess on the zip ties to clean-up our install look. Then we can plug our harness into the tail light assembly and reinstall it. With the tail light assembly back in, we'll go ahead and reinstall the fasteners and caps. Here on the passenger side, once we secure the wiring, we'll take the white wire with the pre-attached ring terminal and secure it to the body. This will provide the ground for our new 4-pole harness. Now with the ground secure, we'll go ahead and reinstall the tail light assembly.

Now with our tail light assemblies reinstalled, we'll go ahead and close the hatch and we can test our new 4-pole connector. We'll go ahead and remove the cap of the 4-pole connector, put our test light clamp on the white wire terminal. The next terminal over will be our brown wire terminal and our running light circuit. Then the yellow wire terminal will be the driver's side turn signal and brake. Then the fourth terminal is going to be our green wire terminal for the passenger's side turn signal and brake. Now that we know our 4-pole connector works, we're ready to hit the road. That does it for the install of our Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part number 56094 on our 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. .

Works just like it says for 2014 Equinox. The hardest part about installing this kit was deciding where to put the ground wire. I used my 1/4" screw gun and drilled into the body with provided self taping crew just above the hitch. Hopefully our winters don't rust it out & require a new location.. 561003

Perfect Fit for my 2015 Chevy Equinox. Easy install, just follow the video instructions. Take your time, be gentle with the tail light removal. Use a low torque setting on electric screwdriver for re-installation or you'll strip the nylon inserts. I used plastic flexible wire conduit to clean up the install and keep wires clear of exhaust piping. Tie-wraps provided could have been longer, if you intend to strap the wires to the hitch frame. Ground wire screw provided is flimsy, use a #8 or #10 sheet metal screw for a good ground connection. Worked perfectly the first time. 200768

The frame hitch(76028) arrived in good shape although it had worn through the box in 4 places. I was glad to see that 4 snaking wires were provided. I used them to position the 4 carriage bolts but left them on. With the hitch on the floor I threaded the wires into each frame hitch hole. Because I was working alone I raised the hitch on wood blacks. As I raised the hitch I made sure that each snaking wire stayed in the proper hitch hole. I did not remove the wires until the hitch was up against the car's frame. This way, It was possible to secure the hitch without danger of knocking the carriage bolts back into the car frame. The frame hitch fit nicely and I am completely Satisfied. The wiring (56094) went well but I do not like the wires being exposed to the weather, In the past i have carried the wires in the trunk and only exposed them to the weather when actually in use. 359802

The Curt T-connector installed easily. But was not the right harness for my vehicle, although it was the one recommended for my 2016 Equinox with no tow package. After using it for 4 mos.it kept blowing 2 fuses (1 for backup camera and 1 for dome lights) even though I had no trailer attached. I took it to the Chev. dealer, they checked everything out. After disconecting the trailer wiring the fuses didn't blow. So now I ordered the harness that has a module and a sparate power source as recommended by your tech. #118494. Haven't installed it yet, waiting for the weather to warmup! 348765

Excellent product, very easy to do. I am not a fan of cutting into existing wiring, so this kit was the answer. It took less than a hour. The Curt 2 inch hitch for my 2010 GMC Terrain was also an easy installation. All hardware was supplied and extra for situations that maybe encountered, i.e.., bolt holes not threaded from factory. The 2010 Terrain was all bolt on. What I especially like is the fact that it is totally hidden except for the receiver. 190230

I've seen many aftermarket hitches that are obviously not built for a specific car, and they look terrible when installed. The hitch I purchased from Etrailer.com was a perfect fit for my car. It was built by Curt Mfg., and was surprisingly easy to install. I had the wiring harness installed in about 45 minutes, and it just plugs into existing wiring (no splicing). And the hitch bolted onto the car with no cutting, drilling or hammering. It was done in about an hour. The finished installation looks like it came with the new car ! The process was much less expensive than having the dealer install it. Excellent product !! 137454

Still impressed with the installation and the good fit. I have hauled various stuff in my 6 by 6 trailer, up to about 2500 lbs. Works fine. Doesnt feel loose. Doesnt squeak. Had several compliments on the look and subsequent referrals.

I thought the installation of the hitch was easy. The harness was even easier to install. Truly a plug-and-play operation. Remove the tail light, unplug the connector on the tail light. Plug in the trailer harness to the tail light. Plug the other connecter on the trailer harness to the vehicle harness. Pass the trailer harness down to the ground through a space in the fender. Replace the tail light. That side is done. I then ran the harness across the bottom of the vehicle and pulled it back up through the space in the fender using a piece of wire I had laying around and taping it to the harness. Then repeat the same procedure with the connectors as I did on the driver's side. Attached the ground using the self drilling screw provided and replace the tail light. The only problem I had was tie wrapping the harness to the vehicle to keep it up and away from any damage. The tie wraps that were provided were too small to go around the tube on the hitch. Perhaps, the design was to tie wrap it in another location but I though the tube of the hitch was the best location for me. I had some other tie wraps around and I used those. Overall the installation was very straight forward and well designed. Total time to install was about 30 minutes. 307814

Installed on a 2015 GMC Terrain. First off in the installation video they tell you to clean out the screw holes in the body of the car with CRC and a brush? YES by all mean do it, I went further and screwed in the bolts with anti-sieze to clean out the treads, very glad I did. It is a two man job but with care and a good floor jack you can do it by yourself. The fishing wire is a must, but be careful as you install the tow hitch that you don't pull the wire away from the threads as you pull the bolt thru the hole. Maybe because I was doing it alone, one of the wires started to pull away from the threads, I re-threaded the pull wire back on but now it expanded out from the bolt at the end and it made it very difficult to get the bolt thru the hole on the tow hitch. I was able to enlarge it every so lightly with a file and drill to get the bolt thru. I purchased another tow hitch from etrailer and came back because of a good price and service. The install video was invaluable both times!!!!!! Install time was about two hours, but when your 68 years old laying on a cold garage floor doing it yourself (because you still think your young enough) it will take time. I have a small trailer that I use and this will be more than enough to handle the job. The wiring harness is great as was the video in telling me how to install it. Took about 30 minutes all total. Could not believe how easy it was to install. Thanks etrailer. My daughter just bought a Nissan Xterra and will be looking for a tow hitch and wiring. Have already told her this is the Best Deal In Town!!! 490727

The trailer wiring harness was very easy to install. There was no wire splicing - just removing the tail light (2 screws), and unplugging and plugging back in some wires. The hardest thing (but it wasn't hard) was drilling a small hole for the ground wire. I could have found an existing place to fasten it, but I opted to drill the hole and use the provided screw. Don't skip establishing a secure ground. 637558

The wiring harness was easy to connect and set up quickly though finding a good chassis ground on a 2014 Chevy Equinox took a creative approach to get the wire and connector inside the weather shielding to a place where the corrosive winter environment in the Northeast would not cause problems. I have not been able to get the right lights to work properly and completely tested the trailer wiring to troubleshoot. Manufacturer assistance was not very helpful suggesting it was not their product causing the problem, and once all possible sources of the problem were eliminated it was more than 6 months after purchase. 616101

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for 2017 GMC Terrain
  • For a hitch for your 2017 GMC Terrain I would recommend the Draw Tite part # 76028 which is a confirmed fit, with great towing capacities, and because it has the best price. For trailer wiring the Curt harness part # 56094 that you referenced is a confirmed fit, but I would rather see you use the Tekonsha part # 118494 as it has circuit protection built into it that the Curt does not. The trailer hitch that I recommend is the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch, # 13591. This hitch will save you some money over the Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch Class III trailer hitches without sacrificing any...

  • Trailer Harness Wiring for 2012 Chevy Equinox
  • If you do not have the factory tow package on your 2012 Chevy Equinox there is a harness that you can plug in behind the tail lights, the Curt T-Connector # 56094, which will give you a 4-way connector. If you instead needed a trailer end connector to plug into the harness on your Equinox you could use # H20046 for a 7-way or # A35W42B should you need a 4-way. I've added links to video reviews of each of these products for you to take a look at.

  • Trailer Hitch Availability to Fit a 2016 Chevy Equinox with Dual Exhaust
  • The Curt Hitch part # 13591 will fit your 2016 Chevy Equinox V6 that has dual exhaust. I attached a picture that we got from a customer that shows the hitch installed on a similar 2015 Equinox that has dual exhaust just like yours. I attached an install video for you to check out as well. For trailer wiring you would then want the # 56094 which is a confirmed fit as well. If you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with...

  • Advantage to Using the T-One 118494 with Powered Converter over Using the Curt 56094 Wiring Harness
  • The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, # 118494, allows you to operate trailer stop, turn, and tail lights but also includes a converter to protect your vehicle's wiring. This powered converter connects directly to your vehicle's battery to avoid overloading the electrical system. If there was ever a short or problem with the trailer's wiring, the only damage that could occur would be to the harness and not your vehicles wiring system. I am including a video...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2010 GMC Terrain Towing Kayak Trailer
  • For your 2010 GMC Terrain I would still recommend going with a 2 inch hitch like the Curt part # 13591 as it will have more capacity (even though you don't really need it), but 2 inch hitches have more accessories made for them so it would give you greater future hitch accessory flexibility. For trailer wiring you would then want the part # 56094. Install video for both attached. Since you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes...

  • Will Trailer Wiring Harness 118264 Fit a 2014 Chevy Equinox without Factory Tow Package
  • If your 2014 Chevy Equinox did not come with the factory tow package then the factory connection point is probably not functional. You can test it with a circuit tester such as # ALL640595 while someone runs through the lighting functions on the vehicle. If it is functional then you can use harness # 118264. If it turns out not to be functional then you will need either harness # 56094 or # 118494. I recommend the powered harness # 118494 because the direct connection to the battery...

  • Comparison of Trailer Wiring Harnesses for 2013 Chevrolet Equinox without the Factory Tow Package
  • You're correct that both the Curt # 56094 and the Tekonsha # 118494 wiring harnesses are fits for your 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. There are 2 (Actually there's more than just those two) because they're versions of the same product made by differenct companies. The harnesses serve the same purpose: to provide a 4-way trailer connector to power the trailer's lights. However, like you pointed out, they aren't identical. The Tekonsha has the powered converter which connects directly to the...

  • The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # 56094 referenced in your question can be installed in your vehicle that already has the tow bar wiring you mentioned installed, however they cannot be plugged in at the same time. This trailer wiring harness is confirmed to fit your 2017 GMC Terrain and will provide a 4-Way connector at the rear of your vehicle. This will install by plugging into the vehicle's existing harness, which is located behind the driver's side and passenger's side tail...

  • The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # 56094 is custom fit for your 2015 GMC Terrain and will work great. I have provided instruction details and an installation video that you can watch to give you a better idea of the process for your vehicle. For towing purposes you will also need a trailer hitch ball and ball mount. I recommend a ball mount kit # 989900 because...

  • Troubleshooting No Power on the 4-Way Curt Harness part # 56094 on a 2008 Chevy Equinox
  • If you tested the 4-way of the Curt Connector part # 56094 with a circuit tester like our part # PTW2993 and got no power out of any of the pins with the different taillight function applied the first thing I would do is make sure you grounded the white wire of the harness to a clean metal surface that touches the vehicle frame. The next thing I would do is make sure that all of the connectors are securely in place. You could even unplug them and then replug them back in. I attached...

  • Parts Needed to Install a Brake Controller in a 2012 Chevy Equinox
  • We have a way to install a brake controller in your 2012 Chevy Equinox, but it would not be pre-wired for a brake controller like some vehicles are. You will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one). For that you would want the # 56094. From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. • Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2014 Chevy Equinox
  • The Curt Wiring Harness part # 56094 that you referenced would work well on your 2014 Chevy Equinox. Like you noticed, it does not have a converter box or require a power wire run to the vehicle battery. I attached an install video for you to check out as well. For a hitch you also might be interested in the Curt Hitch part # 13591. For ball mounts I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900. • Why Circuit Protected Trailer Wiring for 2016 GMC Terrain is Better
  • The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Trailer Connector, # 56094, will fit your 2016 GMC Terrain and will work to operate the trailer stop, turn, and tail lights. But, it does not have a circuit protected or powered converter to protect your vehicle wiring. If given the option, I will always recommend the circuit protected powered converter, # 118494, because it is designed to protect your vehicles sensitive wiring. What it does is virtually eliminate the extra power...
