Video Transcript for Review of Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - 56094

Today we're gonna take a look at the Curt-T connector vehicle wiring harness with the four way flat trailer connector. Now, this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2010 to 2017 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC terrain vehicles and on a custom fit part like this, I always like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year, model, vehicle, and it'll show if this will work for your application. Now, this harness will provide a four way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. It is compatible with five pole, six pole, and seven pole adapters. We do sell those separately. It does come with a nice set of detailed instructions that will describe how to install everything, with even pictures of where your connection points are.

But it does connect very quickly and easily, no cutting or splicing of any wires. You just locate your connection points in the rear cargo area. Basically, you'll open the tailgate and then you'll remove the tail light assemblies and the connectors that these T connectors will plug into will be right behind the tail light assemblies.Take your T connectors here, take the one with the yellow wire that's for the driver's side, and you'll plug this in behind the driver's side tail light assembly. Take the one that has the green wire in it. That's the passenger side and you'll the same.

Plug this in behind the tail light assemblies. You do have this white wire remaining with the eyelid on it. You need to connect that to a good clean ground, if there's one nearby. If not, they do give you a screw that you can make your own ground. Then you basically will reinstall your tail light assemblies to the vehicle.

Route this four way out to the back of the center of the vehicle and then you're ready to plug into your trailer to supply lights to the trailer.Does give you some extra cable ties to to take up any slack in the wiring and if you notice on the four way, it does come with this nice integrated dust cover. When you're not using it or plugged in, you just put that cover over there and it'll protect the terminals from any damage or from the elements. But that should do it for the review for the review on the Curt-T connector vehicle wiring harness with the four way flat trailer connector.

Perfect Fit for my 2015 Chevy Equinox. Easy install, just follow the video instructions. Take your time, be gentle with the tail light removal. Use a low torque setting on electric screwdriver for re-installation or you'll strip the nylon inserts. I used plastic flexible wire conduit to clean up the install and keep wires clear of exhaust piping. Tie-wraps provided could have been longer, if you intend to strap the wires to the hitch frame. Ground wire screw provided is flimsy, use a #8 or #10 sheet metal screw for a good ground connection. Worked perfectly the first time. 200768

Works just like it says for 2014 Equinox. The hardest part about installing this kit was deciding where to put the ground wire. I used my 1/4" screw gun and drilled into the body with provided self taping crew just above the hitch. Hopefully our winters don't rust it out & require a new location.. 561003

Excellent product, very easy to do. I am not a fan of cutting into existing wiring, so this kit was the answer. It took less than a hour. The Curt 2 inch hitch for my 2010 GMC Terrain was also an easy installation. All hardware was supplied and extra for situations that maybe encountered, i.e.., bolt holes not threaded from factory. The 2010 Terrain was all bolt on. What I especially like is the fact that it is totally hidden except for the receiver. 190230

I've seen many aftermarket hitches that are obviously not built for a specific car, and they look terrible when installed. The hitch I purchased from Etrailer.com was a perfect fit for my car. It was built by Curt Mfg., and was surprisingly easy to install. I had the wiring harness installed in about 45 minutes, and it just plugs into existing wiring (no splicing). And the hitch bolted onto the car with no cutting, drilling or hammering. It was done in about an hour. The finished installation looks like it came with the new car ! The process was much less expensive than having the dealer install it. Excellent product !! 137454

Still impressed with the installation and the good fit. I have hauled various stuff in my 6 by 6 trailer, up to about 2500 lbs. Works fine. Doesnt feel loose. Doesnt squeak. Had several compliments on the look and subsequent referrals.

The frame hitch(76028) arrived in good shape although it had worn through the box in 4 places. I was glad to see that 4 snaking wires were provided. I used them to position the 4 carriage bolts but left them on. With the hitch on the floor I threaded the wires into each frame hitch hole. Because I was working alone I raised the hitch on wood blacks. As I raised the hitch I made sure that each snaking wire stayed in the proper hitch hole. I did not remove the wires until the hitch was up against the car's frame. This way, It was possible to secure the hitch without danger of knocking the carriage bolts back into the car frame. The frame hitch fit nicely and I am completely Satisfied. The wiring (56094) went well but I do not like the wires being exposed to the weather, In the past i have carried the wires in the trunk and only exposed them to the weather when actually in use. 359802

The Curt T-connector installed easily. But was not the right harness for my vehicle, although it was the one recommended for my 2016 Equinox with no tow package. After using it for 4 mos.it kept blowing 2 fuses (1 for backup camera and 1 for dome lights) even though I had no trailer attached. I took it to the Chev. dealer, they checked everything out. After disconecting the trailer wiring the fuses didn't blow. So now I ordered the harness that has a module and a sparate power source as recommended by your tech. #118494. Haven't installed it yet, waiting for the weather to warmup! 348765

I thought the installation of the hitch was easy. The harness was even easier to install. Truly a plug-and-play operation. Remove the tail light, unplug the connector on the tail light. Plug in the trailer harness to the tail light. Plug the other connecter on the trailer harness to the vehicle harness. Pass the trailer harness down to the ground through a space in the fender. Replace the tail light. That side is done. I then ran the harness across the bottom of the vehicle and pulled it back up through the space in the fender using a piece of wire I had laying around and taping it to the harness. Then repeat the same procedure with the connectors as I did on the driver's side. Attached the ground using the self drilling screw provided and replace the tail light. The only problem I had was tie wrapping the harness to the vehicle to keep it up and away from any damage. The tie wraps that were provided were too small to go around the tube on the hitch. Perhaps, the design was to tie wrap it in another location but I though the tube of the hitch was the best location for me. I had some other tie wraps around and I used those. Overall the installation was very straight forward and well designed. Total time to install was about 30 minutes. 307814

Installed on a 2015 GMC Terrain. First off in the installation video they tell you to clean out the screw holes in the body of the car with CRC and a brush? YES by all mean do it, I went further and screwed in the bolts with anti-sieze to clean out the treads, very glad I did. It is a two man job but with care and a good floor jack you can do it by yourself. The fishing wire is a must, but be careful as you install the tow hitch that you don't pull the wire away from the threads as you pull the bolt thru the hole. Maybe because I was doing it alone, one of the wires started to pull away from the threads, I re-threaded the pull wire back on but now it expanded out from the bolt at the end and it made it very difficult to get the bolt thru the hole on the tow hitch. I was able to enlarge it every so lightly with a file and drill to get the bolt thru. I purchased another tow hitch from etrailer and came back because of a good price and service. The install video was invaluable both times!!!!!! Install time was about two hours, but when your 68 years old laying on a cold garage floor doing it yourself (because you still think your young enough) it will take time. I have a small trailer that I use and this will be more than enough to handle the job. The wiring harness is great as was the video in telling me how to install it. Took about 30 minutes all total. Could not believe how easy it was to install. Thanks etrailer. My daughter just bought a Nissan Xterra and will be looking for a tow hitch and wiring. Have already told her this is the Best Deal In Town!!! 490727

This is the 6th trailer hitch I've purchased from etrailer, and the same number of wiring kits. Its crazy to pay someone else to install these since etrailer has videos and tips to show the procedures. Each vehicle is different but very do-able if you just take your time and understand the instructions. I've used the pull wires on three of my installs and they make the job soooo much easier. Yup - if you can use a wrench, a torque wrench and read instructions, you will probably enjoy putting on your own hitch and wiring!! Have fun! Sorry no photos this time... not really necessary for a typical hitch install and wiring. 722230

I could not believe how well this was packed. I figured something had to be missing, wrong, everything was their. I only had two problems, 1. I can not get down on my back. When the weather clears up it should go on. from the looks of the package should be no problem. Thank you. 711222

About one year ago I purchased and installed the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector on my 2013 GMC Terrain. The harness is well made and was truly "plug & play". No cutting of wires required since the harness had the proper connectors pre-installed. I'm no auto mechanic but am handy. After watching the "how to" video several times I installed the harness in about an hour. After one year of use, the harness since works well. I highly recommend it. 706489

I bought this 2" hitch receiver, 4 pole flat (18144) mounting bracket, (18140) bracket, 2" rubber hitch cover, Wiring harness (56094) for my 2017 GMC Terrain Denali. Installation was straight forward per the instructions. I was able to install this by my self. I did use a car hoist and tripod jack stand that allowed me to position the hitch in place while I installed the nuts on the two center bolts. Then I positioned the side brackets to the unibody rail with the welded in nuts that are on the vehicle for a factory installed hitch. While the SUV was up on the hoist I installed the custom 4 pole flat wiring harness and mounting brackets. This install took me about 3 hours, including installing wire conduit over the harness for protection. Thanks etrailer for supplying a great product. Can't wait to use it to pull my utility trailer with my Polaris side by side to the sand dunes. 707098

Product arrived in a timely manner with one of the hangers fully exposed out side the box. The heavy construction of the Hitch receiver proved to be too much for the delivery process and the unit was in perfect condition. I viewed the video and started the job of installation. Took me about 1 and a half hours to complete the job. The design of the unit was such that no drilling was required and the included fish wire was a wonder tool bringing bolts and square hole locks to the proper hole down a hollow frame. The wiring kit was super easy to install with step by step instructions and with NO cutting wires. Sorry it took so long to install. At 82 years old I have slowed a bit. Now I can pull my Jon boat to the lake. Happy Camper. 691973

  • Towing Capacity and Recommended Parts for 2012 Chevy Equinox V6
  • If your 2012 Equinox has a tow package it will state factory tow package on the bill of materials. According to the owners manual, the 4 cylinder towing capacity is 1500 lbs but your V6 can tow 3500 lbs if your trailer has brakes. Without trailer brakes the max weight is 1000 lbs. If given the option, I will always recommend the circuit protected powered converter, # 118494, because it is designed to protect your vehicles sensitive wiring. What it does is virtually eliminate the extra power...

  • Recommended Plug And Play Wiring Harness For 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Without Tow Package
  • The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 56094 is not designed to fit your 2016 Colorado, but I do have a solution for you. I recommend the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Connector, part # HM11141164. This harness simply plugs into the vehicle wiring located behind the tail lights on your Colorado. You will need to run the hot lead wire to the positive battery post to complete the installation. When working with electrical connectors I recommend...

  • Does the Computer have to be Reset to Install a Curt Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2012 GMC Terrain
  • I went over the installation instructions and you will not have to have the computer reset when you install the Curt wiring harness, # 56094, on your 2012 GMC Terrain. If you are apprehensive about it, you could always disconnect the negative battery cable prior to installing the harness. You will use any programmed information, like stereo presets, but that is easy enough to reset.

  • Items Required for Towing Travel Trailer with 2013 Chevrolet Equinox
  • The Equinox with the 2.4L engine does have a towing capacity of 1000-lbs, or 1500-lbs if the trailer has brakes. This is what GM says the vehicle can tow and you do not ever want to exceed the rated capacity for the vehicle. If the trailer you select does not have brakes then you need only a 4-pole wiring harness for the lights on the trailer. You can use Curt part # 56094 for the easiest plug-in installation, or if you want a harness that will protect the vehicle wiring from overloads...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for 2014 Chevrolet Equinox Without Tow Package
  • Since your 2014 Chevrolet Equinox does not have any tow package wiring you'll start with a 4-pole harness like # 56094 which is a simple plug-in installation at the car's taillights. This provides stop, turn and tail light signals for the trailer. From there to convert to a 7-way RV-style trailer socket you'll need our # ETBC7 kit. This kit includes all of the components needed to convert the 4-pole flat plug to a 7-way socket like # 37185. An installation video and article are linked...

For a hitch you also might be interested in the Curt Hitch part # 13591. For ball mounts I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900. • Comparison of Trailer Wiring Harnesses for 2013 Chevrolet Equinox without the Factory Tow Package
  • You're correct that both the Curt # 56094 and the Tekonsha # 118494 wiring harnesses are fits for your 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. There are 2 (Actually there's more than just those two) because they're versions of the same product made by differenct companies. The harnesses serve the same purpose: to provide a 4-way trailer connector to power the trailer's lights. However, like you pointed out, they aren't identical. The Tekonsha has the powered converter which connects directly to the...

  • Advantage to Using the T-One 118494 with Powered Converter over Using the Curt 56094 Wiring Harness
  • The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, # 118494, allows you to operate trailer stop, turn, and tail lights but also includes a converter to protect your vehicle's wiring. This powered converter connects directly to your vehicle's battery to avoid overloading the electrical system. If there was ever a short or problem with the trailer's wiring, the only damage that could occur would be to the harness and not your vehicles wiring system. I am including a video...

  • Troubleshooting No Power on the 4-Way Curt Harness part # 56094 on a 2008 Chevy Equinox
  • If you tested the 4-way of the Curt Connector part # 56094 with a circuit tester like our part # PTW2993 and got no power out of any of the pins with the different taillight function applied the first thing I would do is make sure you grounded the white wire of the harness to a clean metal surface that touches the vehicle frame. The next thing I would do is make sure that all of the connectors are securely in place. You could even unplug them and then replug them back in. I attached...
