Question:
I do not have the factory towing package. Why cant I use harness 118264 and just plug into the factory harness? Thanks

Expert Reply:
If your 2014 Chevy Equinox did not come with the factory tow package, then the factory connection point is probably not functional. You can test it with a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 while someone runs through the lighting functions on the vehicle. If it is functional then you can use harness # 118264.
If it turns out not to be functional then you will need either harness # 56094 or # 118494. I recommend the powered harness # 118494 because the direct connection to the battery is sued to power the trailer lights which not only protects the vehicle wiring but also it will not draw power through the taillight wiring. I have included links to videos showing typical installations for you.
