Ball mount kit arrived quickly (within a few days) upon placing order online. Parts were shipped loose in box and bottom flap on box was open when received. Fortunately, all the parts were still in box and in good condition. Kit includes ball mount hardware I need to pull trailers with different hitch heights.

I installed the draw tite hitch onto my brand new 2018 Subaru outback. I'm 68 years old, not as strong as I was, but proud to say I did the job all by myself in about 4 hours. Here are some tips you may find useful.
Watch the video-it’s pretty good.
I had difficulty getting the exhaust system down and worried about getting it up again from the moment I got it down...read on-help will follow.
I bought a stepup drill bit which worked great for drilling the hole in the chasis.
I clamped the hitch onto a floor jack, then rolled it and raised it into position.
Used metal shears to easily cut out the heat shield as per the video.
Your inclination will be the screw the fishing tool provided all the way up the carriage bolt. That won’t work; just screw it on to the tip of the bolt.
I couln’t get the exhaust hangars in place even after lubricating them with wd-40. I dropped the rubber hangars into undiluted liquid car wash soap which made them much more slippery than the wd-40. After that the rubber hangars slipped into place pretty easily-that’s my best tip.
Finding the electric connection plug for the wiring harness was almost as hard as installing the hitch. I was very happy with how the job came out. Good luck.

The 2in tube is lighter than a solid bar, but not as strong. I am planning to use it on a lighter vehicle so this is fine for me. But if you are intending to use it for a more stressful application it might not be adequate for your application.

by:

Everything was good. Pulled the trailer with no problems. Still secure on my car. After one year, ball mount starting to show a little rust but that is it. Just used it to move and haven't used it since.

Quality all the way and great customer service. The kit I order was I thought was supposed to contain 1 each 2" and a 1/78" ball but I recieved 2 2" balls. Within days I had my 17/8 ball delivered. Will NY all my trailer accessories from them from here on. Thanks

by:

Good value and having the 2 options saved us because the higher rise ball mount did not work with the accessory bike rack and I was able to go with the lower rise instead.

by:

Shipment arrived promptly with all items. The instructions and videos provided made the install super easy. This is my second purchase using etrailer and their products and highly recommend them for all towing needs. Great quality and priced affordable.

by:

exactly as advertised. Prompt shipping, nice case to carry everything. If you would like to be prepared for drop or rise hitches as well as different sizes depending on what you're towing, this is what you need.

by:

The customer service was polite and knowledgeable in their recommendations. The package delivered complete and without incident and install was a breeze. the only reason for the four stars instead of five is for the competitiveness of their pricing.

Comments
Has held up very well and have had no issues at all.

Great value for the price. Good quality material on everything.

Comments
Works great have had no problems.

by:

The hitches and balls are great. They haven't rusted and they do what they're supposed to do. Plus, having both mounts allowed me to figure out which height was best to go with my receiver/trailer setup.

Now, would I get it again? No. Why? Because having the two different drops/rises and ball sizes doesn't matter once you attach them with the cut washer. At that point, they are almost permanently attached, so unless you have 2 trailers that are both different tongue heights and have different ball sizes, it doesn't really matter. (Though I guess in a pinch, one could get you close enough to handle another trailer.)

by:

Could not have been easier. I was able to find what I needed by looking at just the items for my vehicle. Item arrived days ahead of schedule. Items were well packed. Tongues appears to be well constructed, but they were made in China. Sturdy pins and a handy bag with enough room for your wrench besides. Very happy with my purchase and good to do business with a local company, too.

by:

This product offers a few options for hitch height and towing. I added a 2 5/16 ball to the combination.

Comments
All of the mounts are working as designed. No problems at all.
Robert - 12/20/2021

by:

Shipping - The hitch, ball mount-kit, wiring harness, and brush all arrived quickly in a single, heavy-duty cardboard box. The packaging was excellent! There had to have been a hundred heavy-duty staples used to secure everything.

Installation - The video and paper instructions were spot-on and made the install much more straight forward. For two non-mechanics, it took us about 2 hours from the time we pulled the car into the garage until all the tools were put away to install the hitch, wiring harness, and mount the balls on the sleeves. We did not lift the car might have made it a little easier but totally doable. The only actual difficulty we had was pulling the rubber muffler mounts off. A little lubrication helps. Reinstalling them is easier.

Comments
All items continue to work well with no issues.
Dan S - 11/08/2018

by:

Looks fine. I'm not a big fan of the pins that use grooves for the clip instead of through holes.

by:

Great products, Fantastic service and very fast shipping. We are already placing another order.

by:

The kit arrived ahead of schedule. All of the items in this kit are heavy duty and are of great quality. I pull several different trailer and these ball hitches work for most of them. I wish there was another kit with different height adjustments to add to what I have now in order for all trailers that I pull would be level be level.

Comments
Works great. I have using it now about a year and have had no problems with it. Definitely saves me time.

by:

We are happy with our whole package including hitch, receiver, wiring and ball mounts.

by:

Great product. It’s been a year and we are happy with the purchase.

by:

Superb quality and this accessory completes the trailer hitch by allowing me to haul anything from moving trailers to boats. Will buy from here anytime I need extra accessories. Thank you.

by:

Provides a good range of options - perfect for switching between different trailers quickly. The storage bag keeps it handy in one spot.

by:

The ball mount kit was shipped in a timely manner. It is exactly what I need for future use

by:

Storage bag was initially missing, but a quick email later a replacement was sent and order was complete!!

by:

Pros
Well built
Cons
Probably
cheaper soemwhere else
Rather pay 80 and it come with a j pin, then e trailer wouldve no doubt be top dog on hitch deals.

by:

Heavy duty, welds look good also.

  • Ball Mount Kit Recommendation For 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Towing A Rented Trailer
I recommend calling your trailer rental office and ask them what size coupler they have on the size trailer you plan on towing. Typically, there should be either a 1-7/8 inch or a 2 inch coupler. To cover all the bases when towing with your 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I recommend the etrailer.com Ball Mount Kit, part # 989900. The Forest River website does not provide coupler size information for the many different pop-up campers in their Freedom series. • Does Length of Ball Mount Affect Tongue Weight on Hitch Ball
The length of the ball mount used in a trailer hitch does not affect the amount of tongue weight (TW) applied to the hitch ball by the trailer, but it does affect the amount of stress applied to the hitch's receiver tube by the ball mount. A very long ball mount would apply MORE pressure to the hitch tube than a shorter one, much in the same way that adding a cheater bar to a tire iron (to make it longer so you have more leverage) will allow you to put more pressure on the lug nut.
