Use this actuator to synchronize your trailer brakes with your tow-vehicle brakes. Over-center latch mechanism only engages when the actuator is fully seated on 2" hitch ball. Designed for hydraulic disc brakes and 3x3 or 3x4 straight tongue.

Specs:
When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Jeff: Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this Dexter DX7.5L weld-on disc brake actuator, with the electric lockout for two inch hitch ball, and has a 7,500 pound weight capacity. Now you'll use this actuator to synchronize your trailer brakes with your tow vehicle brakes. This hydraulic actuator will activate the trailer brakes when the tow vehicles slow or stop.Basically, what happens, is when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs, and the momentum will push your trailer toward the rear vehicle. With the surge brake system, this actuator is then triggered as your trailer moves forward While the tow vehicle slows. The inside portion right here of the actuator will telescope in, apply force to the master cylinder back here, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes. If you notice on the front here, has a nice low profile coupler latch to ensure easy secure connection, and it prevents any damage.
On some actuators, you'll see a tall latch that hooks it up to the hitch ball, and it sits up high, and it can get hit or damage and vent. This one is nice flush, low profile design, and it uses an over-center latch mechanism, which only engage when the actuator's fully seated on a two inch hitch ball. Now I did pull a two inch hitch ball. I wanted to show you how this attaches. Here's your two inch hitch ball. Basically, what you'll first do to attach it: just slide out this tethered safety pin, and that'll allow the latch to fully open.
Then this little round portion up the top, here: it's spring loaded. You just push that all the way over, and it'll unlatch it. Now you're ready to install. All you got to do is go over your two inch hitch ball. Once you're over, lock our drop right into place, and then push this down, and it locks it onto the ball. Then, for extra safety, you take the safety pin, slide it all the way through.
That'll prevent that latch from opening. Now, if by chance you bump something, or something hits this, it won't let the latch fully open; it'll still stay connected to the ball. You just push it back down, and then to fully remove it, just slide that safety pin back out, fully open your latch, and detach it from the hitch ball. Simple as that. It's a very easy connection and disconnection.
Put that back down, we'll take our safety pin, slide it all the way over. Also, if you notice on here, this cable, it includes this breakaway cable. Now, a breakaway cable is required by law, because this will prevent a trailer runaway situation. If by chance, this come detached from your tow vehicle and the trailer was in a runaway situation, this cable would activate the brakes. This hook right here attaches to your tow vehicle at all times. If that come detached, it would pull on this cable, which would activate the master cylinder to apply the brakes. That is required by law, comes all included. Now this one, let me flip it over, and I want to show you the back of the master cylinder, right back here. If you'll see these wires, there's an actual electric reverse lockout solenoid. This'll let you back up without actuating your trailer brakes. The electric reverse lockout is automatically activated when you shift your tow vehicle in reverse. Those wires there will get wired into your trailer connector, which connects to your tow vehicle, so that it'll detect when you go into reverse. When you put the vehicle in reverse, that solenoid will ensure that the hydraulic actuator does not actuate your trailer brakes, thus, allowing you to back up the vehicle. Now to use the lockout feature, you do have to have either a 5-Way Flat, 6-Way Round, or 7-Way Trailer Connector on your tow vehicle. The master cylinder right here, you can see that the solenoid's attached to, it is constructed of aluminum rather than plastic or steel, gives you increased strength and corrosion resistance. You access that master cylinder right up at the top, here. You'll see it has this recessed brake fluid filler cap, right up here, to access your brake fluid, to fill it up, or to check the level. You'll notice that it is a nice prime finish. It is a weld-on installation. It is designed to fit three inch by three inch, or three inch by four inch straight tongue trailers. This part is made in the USA. Again, it's for hydraulic disc brakes. The hitch ball size it fits is a two inch diameter, and the weight capacity on it is 7,500 pounds. That should do it for the review on the Dexter DX7.5L weld-on disc brake actuator, with the electric lockout, for a two inch hitch ball, and has a 7,500 pound weight capacity..

Have not use the Actuator yet. However it came in a oversize box. No packing material to protect it. It was damaged when I opened the box. Scratches and damage cable

Perfect fit. I had to notch one corner where my wiring came out of the box tubing. Really nice compared to the original that was on there

This is a very well made Brake Actuator, with high quality and heavy duty materials. Flat top design suits my requirements of opening the tail gate without worrying about damaging the tailgate and for fixing the sticker for Ford Pro-Trailer Back up Assist. Overall, I am pretty happy with the product, pricing and prompt shipping.
However, I have two observations to make:
1. Manual lockout plate could have been tethered to receiver. Even better, fitted with a magnet so that plate does not fall off, when you are moving the trailer back and forth. There are after market products available with magnet. I improvised on my own with a piece of strong magnet from old hard drive.
2. I bought Dexter A-60 bolt-on top mount for two different trailers. I observed that in both cases, the mounting holes in the receiver does not exactly line up with holes in trailer tongue- off by about 1/16th of an inch. Looks like the inner unit welding to outer case could be the cause.
So I would rate the product as 4.5/5.

I slipped this into my boat mate trailer for 2001 moomba. Took about an hour to hook up and bleed the system with a buddy. Works great! If you can use simple tools and are mechanically savvy this is a no brainer.

Worked great, replaced an old Atwood, welded in where the old one was cut out. Minor modification to the brake line, easy to bleed master cylinder and then bleed brake system. Coupler is extremely easy to use.

Paul is awesome!!
I was very pleased with the way he handled the order. I was going to order it online but he suggested that he could possibly have it delivered in 3-4 days. Actually it was delivered in 24 hours.
I thought [other retailers] were quick about deliveries till I ordered from etrailer.
The coupler and the brake actuator fit perfectly and definitely was a great replacement from the Atwood coupler.
Thanks. Paul.

Received the brake actuator very fast, and it appears to be very well made. I have not as yet had time to weld it to the swing-away connection, but I don't think it will be a problem.

Amazing price for my favorite hitch, tongue actuator system made. I own 6 trailers and have had another dozen in the past. There is no better looking or functioning system .

It was great perfect size on my application thanks

The manual lockout device, supplied with the actuator, requires a second person to hold it in place when backing. It will not stay in place on its own.

I ordered this surge brake hitch without the back up solenoid. Due to supply chain problems it was going to take 3 months to ship. Upon receiving it far ahead of schedule it had the solenoid included at no extra charge meaning that someone at etrailer expedited my order and kept me happy at etrailers expense. How can you top that for service?
Review from a similar DX7.5L in Brake Actuator
The product came unboxed, missing instructions and no spare break away clips. I purchased a new actuator and got one that was laying around.

Exactly what I needed. Didn't require the outer housing, the insider mechanism slid in nicely as a replacement on my trailer. The etrailer videos for installation and bleeding were very helpful.
