Video Transcript for What to Know About the 1-7/8" Hitch Ball

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Curt 1 7/8 inch diameter hitch ball with the 3/4 inch diameter shank, and a 2,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now, this hitch ball will provide the connection point for your 1 7/8 inch trailer's coupler, and will accept up to a 2,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. On the shank of the ball, has the fine threads on it that provide a nice tight, strong grip. And the dimensions on the shank, the length of it, it's gonna be right at 1 5/8 inches long, and the diameter on it is right at 3/4 of an inch. Now, this ball is constructed from a high strength hot forged steel, you can see it has a nice corrosion resistant chrome finish to it, and if you notice on the sides, the two flat ends here, these built-in wrench flats make it easy to hold the ball in place while you're tightening down the nut.

The nut itself as a zinc plated 1 1/8 inch size hex nut, and it comes with the lock washer for secure mounting to the ball mount. This is designed to fit ball mount platforms that are 3/8 inch to 5/8 inch thick, and when you install this, this shank will just drop through the hole in the platform. After it's through the platform, put your lock washer on there, put your nut on there, and then tighten it down to the correct specified torque. Again, the specs on this, the ball diameter is 1 7/8 inches, which is marked on the top, and the weight capacity is 2,000 pounds gross towing weight capacity, which is also marked on the top. But that should do it for the review on the Curt 1 7/8 inch diameter hitch ball with the 3/4 inch diameter shank, and the 2,000 pound gross towing weight capacity..

I have had this ball for a year and it still works great. I would definitely buy from etrailer.com again.

by:

the whole set up is excellent, the hitch, wiring harness. easy to do.

by:

Works well, easy to install, and the installation video was excellent.

by:

The Curt ball mount was exactly what I ordered and prompt shipping was really
appreciated

by:

A great product with outstanding customer service from etrailer!

by:

Nice quality, easy install, great on line directions and light kit, just plug and done

by:

These folks have great communication, and the best prices I've been able to find for the products I ordered. When I got the items, the instructions were clear and easy to follow. The kits are complete and have everything needed. I'm quite happy with etrailer.com

by:

It works well and is as described so it fit perfectly. What more can one want from a hitch ball? lol.

by:

Works great for my e-trailer kayak trailer, also used it for a U-haul tow from Sonoma County California to Gold Beach Oregon.

by:

I moved from Arkansas to Washington State last year and towed a small UHaul with my 2017 Chevy Trax, which has the new hitch that I purchased from you. Everything worked great and I had no trouble whatsoever.

by:

It is a ball. Nice and shiny.
To torque
it, install it on the drawbar, put the drawbar into a hitch, and torque.

by:

This ball is made in China not USA as advertised. Steve did take care of it when I called and said he would have specs changed. All in all a good place to shop hopefully they will get another manufacturer for ball hitches made in USA

by:

The winch and trailer ball seem to be good quality for the price. I’m happy with this purchase. The five stars are for the service I received and the very fast processing and shipping. I’ll be happy to do more business with etrailer for future needs.

by:

Shipped and arrived quickly, and appears to be of good quality. A suggestion: like many others, I don't have a socket big enough for the nut, and my torque wrench only goes to 80 ft-lb (the spec calls for 160). I will have to go to a local garage and have them tighten the ball onto the ball mount. I would have been happy to throw eTrailer a couple of bucks or so to have them do this for me when they filled the order. Please consider offering this service.

by:

The ball started to rust pretty quickly, even though I put a bit of grease on the ball and hitch before I ever used it. Functionally it is still a round hunk of metal that does it's job...it just doesn't look very good.

by:

Nice quality 1-7/8" hitch ball with short shank that is long enough for the ball mount, but does not hang below the nut by much.

by:

Just fine, shipped with the rest of the order and was on time.

by:

I bought this ball and drawbar to attach to my Polaris Sportsman ATV to pull my trailer around. The drawbar was a perfect fit to raise up the trailer and level it. Well made product, welded nicely to the smaller receiver bar and is perfect for what I needed. I would recommend this product.

by:

Looks to be a quality hitch ball, easy to install.

I only use them a couple times a years, still work fine.

by:

Received item as advertised in a timely manner. Will certainly do business again as needed in the future. Will certainly recommend.

by:

The cost was cheaper than I could find elsewhere. No frills easy to install.

by:

All the items in my order arrived today. Thanks for your continued follow-up on this order and the speedy shipping once you had the item on hand. I also appreciated the installation video and pictures on etrailer. com. I routinely recommend that my customers reference your website for install instructions and product explanation videos. Keep up the good worK.

by:

Bought this Class I hitchball because the rest of my installation is Class I. Made sense at the time, but the 2” Class II ball is a tighter fit on the U-Haul trailers I rent, and that is probably better for the inevitable rattling. In the end this Curt ball is both good and cheap, and that is a winning combination for me.

by:

Easy installation. Helps to have two people, however, I installed it alone with the help of jack stands. I highly recommend the Curt receiver. I have another Curt receiver on my 2011 Honda Accord that I also purchased from etrailer.com.

I just finished hauling a load of bush and tree trimmings to the dump with my utility trailer. Attached is a close up photo of the receiver in use.

Sadly, the USPS tossed the delivery around. Ordered on 5/26 it finally arrived on 6/2!

Yes, the Curt Class I Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11103 is a confirmed fit on the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 with center-positioned dual exhaust. I confirmed compatibility with Curt's fit guide and also with one of their technicians. The written instructions and a helpful installation article are both linked to assist you. Tools required are listed in the instructions. If you plan to tow you will also need trailer wiring; use part # HM40975-11933 if you have the factory tow package or...

The problem is going to be your 2015 Dodge Dart. The hitches we have available for your vehicle are all Class 1 (Curt # C11281 and Draw-Tite # 24890) and have 2,000 pounds of towing capacity and 200 pounds of tongue weight capacity. • Recommended Trailer Hitch and Wiring for 2018 Hyundai Tucson Sel Plus
When we research towing capacities we base it off of what the owner's manual says but for some unknown reason there are no online manuals available for a 2018 Hyundai Tucson. I did take a look at the Hyundai website and as you said it listed the SEL Plus as having a 2,000 lb towing capacity as opposed to the 1,500 lb capacity of the SE and SEL; however, it looks like the SEL Plus only has some interior features differentiating it from the SE and SEL so it would not make sense for the capacity...

  • Towing Capacity of 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser
You are correct that passenger and cargo weight inside a vehicle does reduce the trailer weight it can tow. A vehicle like your PT that is intended primarily to transport people may not have much trailer towing capacity if you have a full load of passengers and cargo. I checked the online owner's manual for the 2005 PT Cruiser and the manual states (on page 242) the maximum trailer weight is 1000-lbs when the total weight of passengers, luggage and cargo is no more than 865-lbs. This is...

  • Best Ball Mount To Pair With The Curt Hitch C12107 On A 2017 Toyota Avalon Hybrid
Hi David! We haven't had the chance to install the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" # C12107 on a 2017 Toyota Avalon yet, but when we did it on a 2013, we got a hitch height of 11". This hitch also fits a 2017 Camry and that measured 11.5" when we installed it, so I would say you are looking at 11" to 11.5" on your 2017. I mention all this as the typical coupler height on a trailer will be roughly 18". Being +/- 2" will technically keep you level, so the Curt...

  • Ball Mount For Curt Trailer Hitch With 2023 Subaru WRX
Hey Edgar, For the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C84ZV that fits your 2023 Subaru WRX, the ball mount/drawbar Curt recommends is the 2-5/8" Rise/3-1/4" Drop Curt Drawbar # C45521. Just keep in mind this drawbar doesn't come with a pin and clip or hitch ball, so you'll need to get that separately. For the pin and clip use # F-4, or instead you can secure it with Hitch Lock # e98879. For a hitch ball, depending on your trailer coupler you'll need either 1-7/8" Hitch Ball # C40001 or 2"...
