Hi David!
We haven't had the chance to install the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" # C12107 on a 2017 Toyota Avalon yet, but when we did it on a 2013, we got a hitch height of 11". This hitch also fits a 2017 Camry and that measured 11.5" when we installed it, so I would say you are looking at 11" to 11.5" on your 2017. I mention all this as the typical coupler height on a trailer will be roughly 18". Being +/- 2" will technically keep you level, so the Curt Class II Drawbar - 5" Rise - 11-5/8" Long - 3,500 lbs # C45015 will get you where you need to be. It is also one of the tallest option for a 1-1/4".
The next thing you will need is a ball. For the weight capacity of the hitch, you will need one of the following two sizes. Just make sure it matches the coupler size on the trailer you will be towing.
Curt 1-7/8" Hitch Ball - 3/4" Diameter x 1-5/8" Long Shank - Chrome - 2,000 lbs # C40001
Curt 2" Hitch Ball - 3/4" Diameter x 2-1/8" Long Shank - Chrome - 3,500 lbs # C40018
The last part you will need is a pin and clip to hold everything in place. You can use a standard one like the # C21410, but if you are planning on keeping the ball mount installed in the hitch most of the time, I recommend grabbing the TowSmart Hitch Receiver Locking Pin w/Cap # TS24VR.
If you do not already have wiring, I recommend grabbing the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118578. Tekonsha makes the most reliable wiring harnesses on the market, so this is the one to get. It's also mostly plug and play, so the install is pretty quick and easy.
What are you going to be towing?
