Video Transcript for In-Depth Review of the Replacement Trailer Hub Bearing

Today, were going to review part number 2585. This is the Redline Trailer Wheel Bearing, this is the outer wheel bearing. These replacement bearings are high quality tapered roller bearings designed for high-speed use. All bearing will have an industry standard number regardless of the brand. On this one, if you look on the inner ring, it will be stamped 2585. What you want to do when youre replacing your bearings is look on the bearing for the part number and if you give us that part number well be, able to cross-reference it to a bearing that we would have that would be the correct size.

The only other way is if you did not have the part number, you would have to measure the inner diameter of the wheel bearing. It would require the use of a digital caliper because it is measured in thousandths of an inch and a regular ruler or taper measurer just wont work. If we use a digital caliper and measure the inner diameter of this, it would be 1.313, inner diameter. Now, this wheel bearing or all wheel bearings will consist of three pieces. The cone or the inner ring, which is this part right here, which goes over the spindle. The tapered roller bearings, which are right there.

Then, the roller bearings are retained in a cage or a roller retainer. Then, there is one other part that is required, that is sold separately, and that is the bearing race. This bearing would require the outer bearing race part number 2520 and the critical measurement of the bearing race for this would be the outer diameter. You would measure the outer diameter on that bearing race, would be 2.750 inches. Most of these bearings are lubricated by wheel bearing grease; some of them will use oil.

That should do it on review of part number 2585.

  • Solution for Replacement Hubs Using Obsolete 2585 Inner and 1380 Outer Bearing Combination
It looks like that bearing combination was used on 1940's and 1950's trailers. Unfortunately, it is now obsolete with no hubs available. Your best bet would be to replace the axle with spindles using a modern bearing combination. In order to find the right replacement axle you will need to know the axle capacity as well as the length of the axle. The length is the hub face to hub face measurement as shown in the diagram below. For example, if your axle measured 95" and had a 3,500 lb...

  • Hubs that Fit Bearings 2585 and 3180
We have bearing # 2585 and its matching race # 2520 but not the 3180. The race has an outer diameter if 2.615 inches so you can verify if it fits your hub. I did a little research and it seems like that bearing combination may be for automotive purposes so you might try an auto parts dealer. If not your best bet may be to replace the trailer's axle so that replacement parts are easier to find later on.

  • Bearings, Races and Grease Seals for a 1960 Camper Axle
We do have the inner bearing and race, # 2585 for the bearing and # 2520 for the race. The race is a different number. It will fit the bearing but to determine if it will fit the hub you can look at the outer diameter needed. This race has an outer diameter of 2.615 inches. The outer race, bearing, and the seal are not items that we have a match for. They are automotive type parts that are still available at auto parts stores. The seal also goes by number 471538.

  • Solution for Replacement Hub With L68149 and 2585 Bearings
Based on your description it sounds like you have an old mobile home hub and axle. Also, based on those measurements it sounds like you have # L68149 (inner diameter 1.378") and # 2585 (ID 1.313") bearings. This is not a standard bearing combination so there are no hubs that will fit. This is pretty typical for mobile home axles. The only solution would be to replace the axle so you can use standard bearings and hubs. To find a replacement you will want to know the capacity as well as...

  • Availability of Replacement Hub for AL-KO 9012 Hub
Hi Adam; based on the measurements we have from another customer the bearing combination for this hub assembly is obsolete. It looks like it has a # 2585 inner bearing which doesn't match any modern bearing combination. If you can identify your bearings, or send me the inner diameter of the inner and outer bearings, along with the grease seal measurements measured with a digital caliper # PTW80157 I can confirm this. More than likely you're looking at a replacement axle so you might as...

  • Trailer Bearing with Inner Diameter 1/4 inch Larger than L44649
1/4 inch larger than the inner diameter of the # L44649 is 1.31 and would match the bearing number # 2585. This is normally used in 9,000 lb trailer axles.

  • Replacement Timken Trailer Bearings, Races, and Grease Seals
I do have the correct replacement bearings for you but we do not carry Timken products. The parts we have that match the parts numbers you have provided are as follows: Inner Bearing: part # 25580 - I.D. 1.750" Outer Bearing: part # 2585 - I.D. 1.313" Inner Race: part # 25520 - O.D. 3.265" Outer Race: part # 2520 - O.D. 2.615" Grease Seals: part # RG06-070 - I.D. 2.250" O.D. 3.376" When replacing these bearings I recommend using the UltraLube Biobased LMX Red Grease - Industrial Strength...

  • Need New Hubs and Bearings for 1956 12-Foot Travel Trailer With Bearings 14130 and 1258C
Usually original bearing numbers are the best way to find replacements (thank you for providing that information) but in this case the age of the trailer may be why there is no cross reference for the outer bearing number and why the original bearing inner diameter cannot be matched exactly to what is currently available. Given the age of the trailer it is certainly possible that axles, spindles or both may have been changed out during the last 50+ years. I was able to find some information...

  • Dexter Type Brake Drum Hub Needs Replaced Due To Stripped Out Lug holes
From the picture, it looks like you would need bearing # 2585. That bearing doesn't fit any of our current hubs, but that could all be based on a very unprecise measurement. Let's try another route. Get a digital caliper like # PTW80157 and let's measure the spindle of your axle. I've attached a photo to help. I need you to provide measurements for labeled points B, C, and D on your spindle. Any other pictures you can provide of the hub and spindle would be helpful as well.

  • Replacement Hub and Brake Assemblies Needed for a Trailer with Mobile Home Axle
Thanks for reaching out, Branden! We've got the Bearing # 2585 and Race # 2520 for the inner bearings, but that outer bearing has pretty unique dimensions and you'll have a hard time finding a replacement. I wish this wasn't the case, but mobile home axles are known to have random parts thrown on them because they are meant to only be used once. Ultimately, I recommend replacing your axle(s) with something that is meant to be used regularly but I know that changes things for you as far...
