Secure, Two-Piece Jaw

Q24 Two-Piece Jaw

Unlike slide-bar models, the rounded, two-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

Three-Point Indicator System

Get peace of mind with Curt's color-coded lock indicator. Just look at the indicator - either the one on the handle or the one on the hitch itself - to determine whether the jaw is in the correct position to uncouple (red), couple (yellow) or tow (green).

Q24 Color Indicator System

360-Degree Pivot

Curt's unique spherical axial bearing provides a durable pivot point that allows easy, 360-degree movement of the hitch head. This ball joint is designed for smooth, quiet operation with less clunking and chucking.

Video Transcript for Curt Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch: The Breakdown

Today we'll be reviewing the Curt Q24 fifth wheel trailer hitch with dual jaws, rated at 24,000 lbs. It's part number C16245. This Curt fifth wheel hitch is made from sturdy steel with a durable carbide powder coat finish. It has a gross towing weight capacity of 24,000 lbs., and a vertical load capacity of 6,000 lbs. The height adjustment range is 13" to 17", and it's all covered by a 10-year warranty. We'll go ahead and install our fifth wheel onto our rales.

With the weight of this 5th wheel, you'll need an extra set of hands to help put it into place. We'll now use the four pins and clips to secure the hitch into the rails. We'll slide the pins through the rails and hitch feet here, and install the clip on the other side. As you can see, with the pin in place, the fifth wheel is secure. Now we'll repeat this with the other pins.

With all of our pins in place, we can now go over some of the features of the Q24 fifth wheel hitch. This fifth wheel is equipped with a dual jaw locking system, which provides 360 degrees of contact between the jaw and the king pin. Another great features is the top plate has 360 degrees of movement, side to side, front to back, and diagonal. This fifth wheel also has a 3-point indicator system in which everything is color coded to let you know when your hitch is coupled, uncoupled, and ready to tow. It's also visible from within the cab of the truck.

This hitch also has 4" of height adjustment to help better fit the height of your trailer. You can see these two holes here, which are two points of adjustment. At this time, we have it set at the second set of adjustment points underneath. Another great feature of this fifth wheel is the ability to fit almost all industry standard rails, such as Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Reese, ProSeries, Valley, and of course the Curt rails. Keep in mind thought that specific rails are not included with this fifth wheel.

Now that we've gone over some of the features and specs, we'll now demonstrate how this fifth wheel hitch works. For demonstration purposes, we'll be using this king pin simulator to show you how it works. To uncouple the trailer, there's a pin located on the back side of this lever, which will flip out and undo. We'll flip out this lever and pull out our handle, which will allow the king pin to move out of the jaws. You can see the red bar here as well as the red dot and the color indicator, which tells us we're in the uncoupled position. Moving the handle one section in, the indicator is now yellow, which means we're ready to couple the trailer. Again using the trailer simulator, we'll slide it into position. You'll see now that the indicator is in the green position, which tells us we're ready to tow. Now we can lock the handle back in place with this lever and clip. Now we're ready to head down the road. And there you have it for the Curt Q24 fifth wheel hitch, part number C16245.

  • Air Bag Kit Recommendation for 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 for Use with Curt Fifth Wheel Rail Kit
The Firestone kits like the part # F2430, which is confirmed to fit your 2018 GMC Sierra 1500, are the best option since they are the only ones compatible with in-bed fifth wheel hitch rail kits like the Curt # C16400-204 you are interested in. This kit does not require any frame drilling either.

  • Do the Curt Q20 and Q24 5th Wheel Hitches Install the Same Way on a 2008 GMC Sierra
The Curt Q20 # C16130 and Q24 # C16245 5th wheel trailer hitches both mount to the same above the bed industry standard rails. If your 2008 GMC Sierra is a 1500 or a 2500 Light Duty then you can use Curt installation kit # C16400-204. If it is a 2500HD or a 3500 then use # C16418-204. Custom installation kits are preferred because you won't have to drill into the truck frame for installation. They also take less time to install. I have linked the instructions for these kits for you.

I took a look at the online version of the owner's manual for your 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 with the 5.3L V8 engine and 3.08 axle ratio and it lists a maximum trailer weight of 6,500 pounds if you have the 2WD model or 6,200 pounds if you have 4WD. You may want to try a little more weight on the hitch and a bit less on the jacks. He also recommended that when unhitched to check the connection and disconnection with either a plastic king...

  • Are Curt Q24 and Air RIde 5th Wheel Pin Box Compatible With 2024 GMC 3500 Short Bed
It sounds like you might already have a Q24 from your old setup and would like to use it with your 2024 GMC 3500. The fixed Q24 # C16245 (for above bed rails) or # C37FR (for OEM prep package) will fit if you have the short bed. However, you are going to run into clearance issues. A short bed typically requires a sliding 5th wheel hitch or rotating pin box. The Q24 is not compatible with a rotating pin box so using the Curt R24 Round Tube Slider for Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # C16570...

  • Can Curt Q24 Fifth Wheel Hitch be Used with Rota Flex Pin Box
If you locked out the rotating portion of the Rota-Flex pin box you could use the Curt Q24 # C16245 with it. Or if you wanted to keep using that feature of the pin box you could go with the A25 hitch part # C16180 which is a redesigned version of the Q24 that will work with the RotaFlex.

  • Will Curt Q20 5th Wheel Hitch Legs Fit the Q24 Curt 5th Wheel Hitch
Yes, the Curt Q20 legs, part # C16904, do fit on the Q24 hitch, part # C16245. The bolt holes line up and the legs are the same height. You will decrease the hitch's capacity to 20,000 pounds though.

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch For Additional Height Over 17 Inches With 20K or More Capacity
The Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - 20,000 lbs # C16130 & Q24 - 24,000 lbs # C16245 have a hitch height of 13-17 inches. For a taller hitch to give you the height you need, I recommend the Demco Hijacker Premier Series Double Pivot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - 21K # DM6076P-21K. This is a strong hitch that is adjustable between 16 and 19 inches tall. I've attached a video to assist. Another option is the Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30928 which is adjustable between 14, 16,...

  • Experiencing Chucking When Towing a Car Trailer with a 2010 GMC 3500 Diesel and Curt Q24 Hitch
There are a few things to look that could cause chucking when towing a fifth wheel trailer. The Curt Q24 is one of the best hitches on the market to reduce chucking when towing a fifth wheel trailer. The first thing I would check is to make sure everything in your towing set up does not exceed any capacities. The weight of your trailer does fall within the capacity of this hitch, but based on my research of your 2010 GMC 3500 Dually 6.6L turbo diesel, the weight of your trailer is close...

  • Where are the Grease Fittings for the Curt Q24 Hitch
Curt recommends for the Q24 that you lubricate before each individual use and every 1,000 miles thereafter. Black graphite grease is recommended for the jaw. For a grease gun the part # L30416 would work great since it has a flexible line.

  • How Does Jaw Mechanism of Curt Q24 Hitch Open and Lock
The handle/release design of the Curt Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16245 is supposed to work like a ratchet almost. You pull out and release once and the handle should show yellow which means the jaws are unlocked and ready to accept a king pin. Once a king pin passes through the jaws it will lock into place and the handle will show green meaning you are safe to tow. Then to release it you pull the handle and release it and the jaws will unlock, the handle will show the color red, and...

  • Recommended Fifth Wheel System For 2015 GMC Sierra 3500 For Full Bed Access When Not towing
For an underbed rail system that gives you full bed access when you are not towing I recommend the Reese rail kit, part # RP30868. The hitch that would work well with this is the Curt Q24, part # C16245. To get this system to work together, you will need the adapter, part # RP30154. This allows you to be able to use the Curt hitch with the underbed rail kit. Since you do not seem to like the design of the B&W hitch, this is the system I would go with. If you change your mind the system...

  • Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch and Installation Kit Recommendations for a 2008 Ford F-350 Super Duty
There are a couple of components needed to install a 5th wheel trailer hitch in a truck. Starting with the installation kit, there are 2 types. There is a universal kit and there are custom kits. If a truck has a custom kit option available, as your truck does, I always recommend it over the universal installation kit. The reason is that the custom kits come with brackets specifically designed to fit your truck and this translates to less drilling and about half the installation time over...
