Question:

I have a 2017 GMC 1500 with a standard bed. The instructions have dimensions from end of bed to back rail for short bed and long bed. What dimension should I use for a standard bed?

In regards to the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit part # C16400-204 which is a fit for a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500, the distance from the edge of the truck bed to the edge of the forward-most rail is 47-1/2" on both the 5-1/2' and 6-1/2' bed models. The distance of 52-3/8" from the edge of the truck bed to the edge of the forward-most rail is for 8' bed models.

If you don't already have a fifth wheel hitch in mind, the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Slider part # C16521 is going to be your best option for the money as it has a very nice locking jaw system that keeps a tight grip on the kingpin which really does a good job of providing a smooth ride. I also recommend adding the Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Custom Wiring Harness part # C56070 which I have attached an install video on for you.
