Video Transcript for Review of Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit - Outboard Mounting Brackets - RP56016

Jeff: Hello everybody, this is jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at the Reese Quick-Install custom outboard brackets for fifth-wheel trailer hitches. Now this kit is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2011 to 2016 Ford F-250, F-350, and F-450 Super Duty trucks without the OEM prep package. And on a custom fit part like this, I always like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show if this'll work for your application. Now, these are custom outboard brackets, which will dramatically reduce the amount of drilling and time required to install your fifth-wheel trailer hitch to your vehicle. These installation brackets will mount beneath your truck bed, and they provide the attachment points right here for your fifth-wheel rails. Now, these are just like the original custom mounting brackets. These brackets installed below the bed, and they do use existing holes in the truck frame, minimizing installation time and will help minimize drilling and measuring.

And it cuts down that installation time by more than half compared with universal bracket systems. The biggest difference with these, these are outboard brackets, and they're designed to install outside the vehicle's frame. So the result is a much simpler installation process where most underbed components can be easily avoided because you're working outside the frame rails, and you also have easier access with your tools and more room to work, making the whole process, less of a pain. Now these outward brackets are designed to work with the extended length base rails. We do sell those separately on our website. They're part number RP30153. Now those above bed rails are five inches longer than the standard universal rails so that they'll match up with the mounting points on these brackets, which will sit below the bed and outside your truck's frame. You can see it does include the hardware for mounting these brackets to the vehicle frame.

Nice set of instructions on how to install them. And these parts are a nice sturdy black powder coat steel, so they do resist corrosion. But that should do it for the review on the Reese Quick-Install custom outward brackets for the fifth-wheel trailer hitches.

For your 2016 Ford F-350 short bed (or long bed) the Outboard Reese Rail Kit part # RP56016-53 that you have is listed as a fit. Since this is a custom fit, outboard kit it will be the easiest kit to install. The frame brackets being on the outside of the frame makes things much easier. The center of the jaws of the hitch will end up approximate 7/8 of an inch in front of the rear axle center. From the rear edge of the truck bed to the rear edge of the rear rail will measure 27-5/8 inches.

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Sliding Hitch For 2015 Ford F-250 4x4 and Gooseneck Trailer
The Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - Single Jaw - Above Bed - 18,000 lbs # DM8550034 is an excellent hitch for your 2015 Ford F-250 Super Duty 4x4. I personally think this is the best hitch available for short bed trucks because it has the autoslide ability to give you the clearance you need for safe turning. This hitch connects to industry standard 5th wheel rails, so I recommend the Demco Hijacker Premier Series Above-Bed Base Rails and Custom Installation...

  • Are Firestone Air Bags Compatible With Reese Quick-Install Brackets and Rails on 2015 Ford F-350
Yes, the Firestone # F2703 are compatible with the Reese Quick-Install Custom Outboard Installation Kit # RP56016-53. The # RP56016 brackets mount on the outboard side of the frame rails on your F-350, and the air bags will install on the inboard side. I also recommend adding an onboard air compressor like the Firestone Air Command II # F2219. This will allow you to control the air pressure wherever you go from the cab of your truck. It is a dual path system so you can control the air...

  • Converting a 2015 Ford F-350 with Gooseneck Hitch to Tow a 5th Wheel Trailer
Gooseneck and fifth wheel hitches are for the most part separate hitches. The exception is the factory system available on trucks as an option, but this is directly from the factory and not an aftermarket product. There is the Reese Elite that you mentioned, part # RP30126, that's an aftermarket puck system very similar to the factory system. It even has a goosneck head, part # RP30138, that can be added to have both hitches. But there aren't any universal puck systems that can be added...

  • Could Reese Fifth Wheel Rail Kit be Used with Pullrite Fifth Wheel Hitch
There are some versions of the Pullrite Superglide hitches that are designed to fit industry standard rails which is what the bracket kit part # RP56016 is designed to work with. Which we have this as a kit with rails with part # RP56016-53 but if you have a hitch that is designed to fit the Pullrite rails we don't have a solution. Typically Pullrite puts "ISR" on their hitches that use industry standard rails like this as well as I know the 2700 is for this type of rail too.

  • Will a Reese 12K 5th Wheel Hitch Work on a 2016 Ford F-250 Super Duty
I have several hitches that will work with your new 2016 Ford F-250 Super Duty, but based on the information we have, your 12K Reese 5th wheel hitch will not work with anything that is made these days. The only 12K 5th wheel hitch that Reese had was made between 1985 and 1990 and it was actually made by another company called Owens Classic. Reese dropped that line in 1990 and released their own 5th wheel line, so anything sold by Reese that was made before 1990 will not fit anything made...

  • Will RBW X-16 Fit Industry Standard Above Bed Rails on 2012 Ford F-250
The Reese Quick-Install Custom Outboard Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP56016-53 will give your 2012 Ford F-250 industry-standard rails, allowing you to use fifth-wheel hitches that mount 22” front to back and either 20-5/8” or 29” wide. From my research the RBW X-16 fifth wheel hitch will fit industry-standard rails but if you will want to take a quick measurement of the hitch legs from front to back as well as their width to verify this.

  • What is the Difference Between Reese Custom 5th Wheel Brackets # RP56016-53 and # RP50026-58
These brackets are very similar and have very close instructions when it comes to install as well. There is about a 5 inch difference in the location of where these brackets are installed and then when you get towards the end of the instructions there are a few difference like the torque specifications. Other than the size of the base rails, there really are no big differences.

The issue you most likely are going to have is that the portion of the flat bed that sticks out past the rear axle is going to be too long to fit under the overhang of a fifth wheel hitch since they were designed to fit standard truck beds. How long is your flat bed though since you have something different from the picture? If the hitch you have is in fact a B and W Turnoverball then we do have the Companion for Flat Bed trucks part # BWRVK3050 which is designed for the recessed ball...

  • Jaws Will Not Release on Reese 16K 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch
Does the handle on the 5th wheel hitch offer any resistance when you pull on it to open the jaws? If it doesn't then that is an indication of a broken spring. But there is a second spring that could be missing as well. The trouble is you have to access the underside of the head to access the springs. If the hitch jaws will not release and the trailer is coupled then you can try to pry apart the jaws manually. Other wise you would have to release the head from the legs which I do NOT recommend....

  • Towing 5th Wheel Trailer with 2018 Ford F-150 with 5-1/2 Foot Bed
I was able to pull up the online towing specs for your 2018 Ford F-150 and it looks like there is still a somewhat large potential range even within the specs that you provided depending on your axle ratio, drivetrain, and wheelbase. At the low end on your F-150 SuperCrew with the 3.5 V6 engine it shows a 5th wheel towing capacity of 6,500 pounds for the 4X4 model with a 145 inch wheelbase and the 3.55 axle ratio. At the high end your F-150 can have a 5th wheel towing capacity of up to...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Rail Kit and Hitch for 2017 F-150 & Highland Ridge Open Range Light 5th Wheel
The 2018 Highland Ridge Open Range Light lf318rls has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 9,995 lbs and an unloaded weight of 7,895 lbs. According to Ford, your 2017 F-150 Ecoboost 3.5L Supercrew 4x4 has a towing capacity of 10,200 lbs. So, you won't have any problem towing this 5th wheel trailer. For your 2017 F-150, I recommend the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP50087-58 which is a custom fit for your vehicle. Then...

  • Sliding Fifth Wheel Hitch for a 2017 F-250 Super Crew with 6 3/4 Bed
Since you have a Keystone trailer with the Turn Max technology you don't need a slider at all actually. Manual or automatic slider would not be needed. With fifth wheel hitch you actually don't really need them to sit higher than the bed rails of the truck. It's actually the opposite in nearly every situation that the hitch sits below the top of the bed rails. The pin box of the truck extends down far enough to compensate for that. The Reese fifth wheel hitch part # RP30047 is a similar...

  • Can 2021 Ram with Ram Boxes Tow Fifth Wheel Trailer
There is definitely a way to tow a 5th wheel trailer with your 2021 Ram that is equipped with the RamBox, but it's going to require some new components both on the trailer and your truck. The issue with the Ram Boxes is that they make the bed rails really narrow on the truck, so much so that you can't make turns without a standard pin box or adapter like a Goose Box knocking into them. The only solution for this is replacing the pin box on the trailer with a pivoting option like the Reese...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch and In-Bed 7-Way for Long Bed GMC Truck with Rails
Hey Steve, it sounds like you have a set of fifth wheel rails in the bed of your truck already and are just looking for a hitch to fit into them as well as a 7-way kit that puts the 7-way up in the bed. Check out the attached picture to see what the rails you have SHOULD look like. For a hitch you could then use the Reese 16k part # RP30047 since you have a long bed and do not need additional clearance to make tight turns. Then for a 7-way you would want the part # 41157 to give you...

  • Will Sidewinder Allow 2016 Ram 1500 With Rambox to Make 90 Degree Turn?
In order to determine if a Sidewinder such as # RP34FR will allow you to perform a 90 degree turn with your 2016 Ram 1500, you first need to measure the distance from the center of your fifth wheel hitch jaw to your truck's Rambox. You will also need to know the width of the trailer you will be pulling. You can then use this formula to find out if you can do a 90 degree turn: (A + B) - C = Clearance A = Distance from center of 5th-wheel hitch jaw to Rambox in inches B = Length of Sidewinder...
