Sliding Fifth Wheel Hitch for a 2017 F-250 Super Crew with 6 3/4 Bed

Updated 06/30/2020 | Published 04/17/2018

Question:

Thank you for the recommendation! If we look at auto-sliders do you feel the Demco model would sit high enough for our 2017 F-250? I believe the bed rails are higher than standard Chevy/Dodge models. We have a Keystone Sprinter with Turn Max technology. We are now rethinking the idea around an auto-slide the off chance that we forget or “think” we’re okay when we really aren’t the auto-slide may save us. Thank you,

Since you have a Keystone trailer with the Turn Max technology you don't need a slider at all actually. Manual or automatic slider would not be needed.

With fifth wheel hitch you actually don't really need them to sit higher than the bed rails of the truck. It's actually the opposite in nearly every situation that the hitch sits below the top of the bed rails. The pin box of the truck extends down far enough to compensate for that.

The Reese fifth wheel hitch part # RP30047 is a similar 16k hitch with a height range of 14-1/2 inches to 18 inches.

We have slider fifth wheel hitches that will give you turning clearance that do not slide automatically. For example, the Reese slider hitch part # RP30075 would be a great option. It has a 16k capacity and can slide back 11 inches when needed. It's round tube slider design will operate much smoother than a square tube. For a rail kit then you'd want a custom install kit like part # RP56017-53 which will minimize drilling and install time over a universal kit.

I have the above Reese 16K round tube slider in a 17 Ram 2500 shortbed. I am looking at a 2020 F250 6 3/4' bed. with 5th wheel prep kit. What do I need to make the swap?

To bring your existing Reese slider over to the new F-250 you just need the Adapter Rails # RP30156. This will drop into those factory pucks in the bed and provide industry-standard rails to which the hitch will mount.
