Ask the Experts about this Reese Accessories and Parts

  • Will a Reese 16K Fifth Wheel Hitch Head fit onto a Reese Slider Hitch with a 15K Head
If the slider kit you have is a Reese square tube slider, part # RP30048, (see link below) then the item you selected will fit. The Reese slider is designed to fit both the 15K and 16K fifth wheel hitches. Keep in mind, due to the locking mechanism of the slider units, you will not be able to bolt the head support slider in the lowest setting, the top bolt holes on the head support.

  • Towing Fifth Wheel Trailer With Sliding Fifth Wheel Hitch Slid Rearward in Maneuvering Position
If you're talking about low speed maneuvering like in a campground, the answer would be yes. If you're talking about driving on the highway or on public roads at speeds above what you'd drive on a parking lot, the answer would be no, it would not be safe. When the fifth wheel slider is slid rearward, the pin weight of the fifth wheel is applied to the truck bed behind the truck axle which would lighten the weight on the front axle of the truck (like a teeter totter) which would greatly...

  • Why Does my 16k Slider not Lock Into either the Tow or Maneuver Position
I spoke with my contact at Reese and he informed me that there are two possibilities that can explain what you are experiencing. The first one is if the legs of your slider are not square in the rails it can get bound up and it will prevent the locking mechanism of the slider from engaging completely. The recommended way for checking that is to remove the hitch from the rails and turn it upside down and so that the legs of the slider are suspended in the air and see if the slider locks...

  • Recommended Double Jaw Head For Reese 15,000 lb 5th Wheel Hitch
For your 15,000 lb 5th wheel hitch, the double jaw head is not available without also upgrading the crossmember it mounts to. I spoke with a tech contact at Reese and the best option is the Replacement Head with Crossmember for Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - 16,000 lbs # RP30047A. This will allow you to use your current legs and will give you a head that has the dual jaws. You may also choose to get the entire hitch replaced as the legs will use the same industry standard rails already...

  • Will the Reese16K Fifth Wheel Hitch Head Fit on the Reese Kwik Slide Fifth Wheel Slider
Yes, the Replacement 16K Fifth Wheel Hitch Head, item # 30047A, will work on the Kwik Slide Fifth Wheel Slider, item # 30048, that came with the # 30049 15K hitch. The Replacement 16K Fifth Wheel Hitch Head - Draw-Tite and Reese, item # 30047A does tilt front to back and side to side. If you are looking to upgrade the features or capacity of your hitch you could also use the Reese 18K Select Plus Fifth Wheel Head Kit, item # 58292, along with the Reese Replacement Head Support for...

  • Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch Rails Compatible with the Reese # RP30047A 5th Wheel Hitch Head
There are 2 different options for you to convert your 5th wheel hitch to a sliding 5th wheel hitch. You can use either the Reese Square Tube Slider # RP30048 or the Reese Round Tube Slider # RP50024 with your Reese 5th Wheel Head # RP30047A, you will just use the installation hardware for the head that you are already using. I confirmed this with my contact at Reese. Out of both of these options I recommend using the Reese Round Tube Slider # RP50024 as it will operate a little more...

  • Reese 5th Wheel Jaws Are Not Closed as Much When Trailer is Connected When Hitch is Empty
My contact a Reese told me that it is normal for the jaws of the Reese 5th Wheel Hitch # RP30047A to not touch as when connected to a trailer as they do when the hitch is empty. The jaws are designed to lock the king pin in place in the hitch head. They do not have to be completely surrounding the pin to achieve a secure fit. As long as you the king pin is set in place in the jaws and the handle can lock, there will be no issue with your hitch connection.

To convert your Pro Series 16K fifth wheel hitch to the Reese 16K fifth wheel hitch with the 2-jaw locking system, you would need to get the Reese Replacement Head and Crossmember, # RP30047A. • Replacement Head Recommendation for Pro Series Slide Bar Hitch that is Worn Out
I wish we had a jaw rebuild kit for your Pro Series fifth wheel hitch, but they do not offer us that at this time. • Moving 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Install Kit from a 2000 Ford F-250 to a 2012 Ram 2500 Short Bed
It sounds like the installation kit is the Reese universal kit # RP30035. To use it on your 2012 Ram 2500 short bed you would need to add bracket # RP58186. You will also need new hardware # 58164 since the bolts are not meant to be used more than once. You can reuse the other brackets and the rails. Installation is not all that difficult, just time consuming. To see if this is something you want to tackle yourself I have included links to the installation instructions to the right....

  • Replacement Jaw Kit for Older Reese Hitch 30051
We have a replacement jaw kit for your older Reese fifth wheel hitch # RP30051 with the jaw kit # 58056. That said, if the hitch is overall looking pretty rough I would probably replace the head and crossmember with the part # RP30047A instead to give you almost an all new hitch. But if everything looks really good on the hitch except the jaws I'd just go with the jaw kit.

  • Towing a Trailer Rated for 15,500 Pounds with A 15,000 Pound Rated Hitch
Congratulations on the purchase of a new RV. For safety reasons, I can not recommend the setup that you are suggesting. Even though your, # 30046, hitch is rated to tow 15,000 pounds, the potential to overload the hitch exists. I would recommend upgrading your 15k hitch to at least a 16k model. There are two models that you can use to upgrade your existing hardware to either 16,000 pounds or 20,000 pounds. The Replacement 16K Fifth Wheel Hitch Head, item # RP30047A, would use your existing...

  • Can a Slider Fifth Wheel Hitch Be Used with a Sidewinder on a 2006 Ford F-150 with 5-1/2 Foot Bed
A slider hitch with a Sidewinder can be used on your 2006 Ford F-150 with a 5-1/2 foot bed, but you will have to lock the slider hitch to keep it from moving. A Sidewinder cannot be used on a slider hitch that will slide because sliding the king pin back with the Sidewinder attached can cause the pin weight to be too far back on the vehicle. This will cause unsafe conditions such as reduced steering performance and overloading of the rear suspension. Another option, depending on which...

For option 2, you could replace the existing hitch/slider unit with the Reese # RP30075. This would include a new 16K capacity head and a round tube slider. • Best Replacement Head for a Pro Series 15k Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation
For a trailer that weighs 12.6k lbs there really wouldn't be an advantage to going with the 20k fifth wheel head part # 30118 over the 16k part # PS30854. For an actual upgrade I would recommend the part # RP30047A. We have spoken with Cequent who is the manufacturer of Reese and Pro Series and they state that the Reese hitch is built with sturdier parts although the design of the two heads are basically the same.
