Recommended 5th Wheel Towing Package for 2018 F150 XLT with Crew Cab 5.5 bed

Published 10/24/2018

Question:

I now have accurate measurements to make it a little better, but will this work? Trailer is 96inch 48+22=50-48= 2 inches. Is this enough to be safe? So sorry for all the questions, but I dont want to buy the 5th wheel if it wont tow. Your answer will confirm the correct decision. Thanks so much, you offer a great service

The Reese Quick-Install Custom Outboard Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP56034-53 and the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 16,000 lbs # RP30047 are confirmed to fit your truck and will work with a Sidewinder pin box.

The Sidewinder pin box # RP34FR is rated for 20,000 lbs . You also could use the Air Ride # RP61422 if you prefer for a smoother ride. This will move the turning point of your trailer back to allow for cab clearance when turning. You will also want the custom wedge # SWW-03 for the best ride with that hitch.

Your truck is equipped to tow this combination without issue.

It will work for you however you will have turning clearances that are less than 90 degrees. This is extremely common as most vehicles will not allow for a 90 degree turn with a 5th wheel trailer. I'm glad you are doing the math so you will be aware of your limitations as it is not uncommon that people assume and end up hitting the cab or breaking a rear window.

Yes. You will be safe with those measurements to tow but still not able to perform a 90 degree turn. As you can see in the attached Sidewinder article, 4 inches of clearance is recommended to safely execute a 90 degree turn. This accounts for uneven ground, etc. I would not hesitate to purchase the trailer if you are okay with the ever so slight turning restriction which again is very common on the short bed trucks.
