Question:
Hello, I am looking to install a hitch on my 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Jeep does NOT have a tow package. I have the hitch, but do not know what wiring parts we will need. We are looking to tow a Gulf Stream 1090k with the Jeep, which weighs approximately 1500 lbs. It will need a 7-way plug. Could you advise me on what parts i will need to get the wiring set up for towing? Thank you!

Hello Catherine,
Happy to get the right wiring set-up for your 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Since you need a 7 way on the back, you will need to start by installing the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C62VR, this is going to get a 4 flat on the back. Then you will need to build on top of that by installing the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires # ETBC7. The # ETBC7 is a little more work to install as you will need to run a power line from your battery with a couple of amps along the way, you will also need to run a brake wire from the front the rear as well. I attached some install videos for you to take a look at top see what it all entails.
Since you are needing to add a 7 way, you are probably going to need a brake controller as well to operate the electric brakes on your Gulf Stream. I really like the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller w/ Universal Wiring Harness - Dash Knob - Proportional # RED52VR, I like that the knob is on the dash for easy adjusting or hitting that manual override in those emergency situations. If you have an empty spot on the dash, you can use the # 331-TPSI-001 to install the knob.
Is this your first camper you will be towing, or just getting a different car set-up to tow it?
