Hi Michael,
For your 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee 80th Anniversary Edition, the highest capacity hitch available is a Class III, as there isn't a Class IV hitch made for your Jeep. I recommend the Blue Ox Trailer Hitch Receiver # BLU53UR, as long as your Grand Cherokee is not an SRT or Trackhawk model. It has a clean, concealed look once installed and is rated for up to 900 pounds of tongue weight, or 1,125 pounds when used with a weight distribution system. Also, if you have a spare tire larger than 18 inches, it won't fit underneath the vehicle with any aftermarket hitch so that will need to be removed if it's stored underneath the Jeep.
If your Jeep has the factory tow package, you can simply install the Curt 7 Way Wiring Harness # C55774. If it doesn't have the factory tow package, you'll first need the Curt 4 Way Wiring Harness # C62VR, then add the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7 to convert it to a 7 way for trailer brakes.
The ETBC7 does take a little more work since you'll need to run a power wire from the battery, install the included circuit breakers, and route a brake controller wire from the front of the Jeep to the back. I've included a few installation videos so you can see what's involved before getting started. If you are not a DIYer, we have an installer locator to find installers in your area if you provide your zip code. I am happy to help with that.
For the brake controller, my favorite is the Redarc Tow Pro Liberty # RED52VR. It mounts neatly behind the dash so only a small control knob is visible, giving it a clean, factory-style appearance. It also uses proportional braking, so your trailer brakes match the way your Jeep is slowing down for smooth, confident stops.
With those parts, you'll have everything you need to safely tow a trailer with electric brakes. I'm excited for you! What kind of trailer are you planning to tow?
