Thanks for your question, Wayne!
There are a few great ways you could set up a backup/observation camera on your Shasta. Since it’s a pull behind, I’d recommend going with a wireless option.
Option 1: Brandmotion with HitchVUE
Part # BM36TR – This includes the main camera plus the HitchVUE add-on.
- The HitchVUE is an extra camera that mounts to your bumper (or wherever you prefer) and makes hitching up much easier.
- It has a magnetic base with peel-and-stick backing, so setup is quick.
- Lets you add up to 3 more cameras.
If you don’t need the HitchVUE feature, you can go with part # BM37SR. It comes with the same main camera, just without the extra hitching camera.
Important note: Both of these will still need to be wired into the back of your camper. If your Shasta’s wiring is still original, it might be too thin to handle it. In that case, you can wire into any 12v power source – for example, the running lights or the 12v power wire itself.
Option 2: Swift Hitch Wireless
Part # SH02Digital – This is a totally wireless option, no wiring required at all. It runs on battery power, so you’ll need to recharge it occasionally (battery life is about 8 hours).
The main downside: visibility is limited, only 50 degrees (horizontal and vertical) viewing angle. It was originally designed just for hitch alignment, so you won’t get the wide view you’d have with a true observation camera. I still wanted to give you this option just in case you wanted something that didn't require any sort of wiring.
How long have you had your Shasta?
