Flat Tow Package for 2021 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. Where do I Find the Instructions?

Updated 06/20/2025 | Published 06/05/2025

Question:

Hi ET, I am researching a flat tow package for my 2021 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. I noticed that your techies have different recommendations for the kits on this same vehicle. Is it possible to choose the separate components from different manufacturers to work together or should I stick with a single manufacturer to avoid conflict between components. I see that each kit has different features and I am trying to determine which ones would work best for me. Also do the different kits come with detailed install instructions to help reference installation. I like the videos but it helps to have written reference material. Thank you

Hello Peter,

Trying to get your Trailhawk ready for some flat towing adventures? Definitely happy to help clarify what all can work together.

It really depends on which parts you're considering mixing and matching. Tow bar and base plate brands can be specific, but even that’s somewhat of a gray area since there are adapters that allow mixing brands. I see you asked your question on our etrailer XHD Non-Binding Tow Bar # e94ZR. The # e94ZR will work with our etrailer base plate, or the Demco base plates (little secret for you, Demco actually makes our tow bars and base plates).

Based on the tow bars you were looking at, here’s the tow package I would recommend:

- Base Plate: Demco Tabless Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # DM9519340

- Tow Bar: etrailer XHD Non-Binding Tow Bar - RV Mount - 2" Hitch - 10,500 lbs # e94ZR

- Wiring:

* If you have Park Sense: Roadmaster Smart Diode Kit for Variable Voltage LED Tail Lights # RM63MR

* If you don’t have Park Sense: Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 7-Way to 6-Way Coiled Adapter Cord # RM-15267 (The diode kits tend to work much better than the plug-and-play options)

- Brake Light Switch: Since the OEM brake line isn’t usable, you’ll need Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751471

- Charge Line Kit: Flat towing will drain your battery, so I recommend the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25

- Braking System:

* If your RV has air brakes: Demco Air Force One Flat Tow Brake System - Wireless Monitoring - Proportional # DM26VR

* If your RV has hydraulic brakes: Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Braking System for RVs w/ Hydraulic Brakes # DM86VR

Regarding installation instructions: most of our product pages include them. Just look above the “Customers compare” section for the blue “Installation Details” link (see the image I attached). Click that to access the full instructions. I've also included direct links to instructions for everything mentioned in this package.

Let me know which parts you're leaning toward so I can confirm compatibility. I also attached a great help article that walks through all the must-have components for flat towing.

Do you have your first big trip planned once everything’s set up? If so, where are you headed?

Dear Kate, In response to your question, I have been full time traveling for the last 5 years but I just purchased a vehicle to tow with my 30 foot sunseeker. This is the first time I will be flat towing a vehicle as I have only traveled in the RV and bicycles as alternate transportation until now. Thank you for your expert reply and wonderful suggestions as I am still working on making a decision for the best choices for my set-up. With all the options and choices available the more I look the more confusing it becomes. At this point I am just trying to determine the correct hardware and wiring for me and your suggestions look real good to me. Thanks very much for your help and should I need any further assistance I will contact you guys for sure. Peter

@PeterA Very cool Peter! My Dad just started his RV adventure life about 2 years ago and he is loving it! I really like the Roadmaster wiring, I hear about a lot of issues with the plug-n-play wiring (which is why we don't carry a whole lot of them). The diodes typically out live the car, just one less failure you need to worry about. Lots of big decisions for sure, and I see why you would want to take your time, it is not a cheap thing to do. If you have any questions at all about any of the parts you are trying to decide between, please ask away =)
