Updated 06/11/2026 | Published 06/10/2026

Question:

Im purchasing a 2023 Jeep Wrangler. I want to use it as my toad vehicle. I would like to make sure its safe. Can you point me to a setup I should follow and are there any installers near me in Southern Minnesota that can install this? I have a 2023 Ford E-450 Winnebago Class C

Hey Thomas, the first thing you'll need to flat tow your 2023 Jeep Wrangler would be the correct base plate kit which the part # RM-521453-5 you referenced would be.

In addition to the base plates, you will also need a compatible tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking to flat tow your vehicle. The most popular compatible tow bar is the Falcon 3HD, # RM27NQ. This has non-binding arms which makes the setup very easy to connect/disconnect.

For lighting/safety cables, locks, and covers for the tow bar we have the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain kit part # RM-9243-1 which comes with all of that as one part number. The diode kit that comes with this allows you to splice into the taillight wiring so that your RV controls the vehicle taillights and does not require drilling into the taillight housings. This comes with a round 6-way connector that you will install on the front of your towed vehicle and enough coiled wire to go from there to the RV.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking in the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

I attached a link below that will take you to our installer locator where you can find someone to help with the install! Have you flat towed before?

I installed all the listed parts in my 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Rubicon. There was some trimming required of the rock guard bit otherwise it was a straight forward installation. I can send you pictures of the finished installation and how it attached to my RV. It tows very well. Very easy to connect and disconnect.

I installed this baseplate on a 2025 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. It was pretty straight forward. On mine, the plastic skid plate came off easily, followed by the OEM bumper with one electrical connection and 8 nuts. At that point everything's is pretty much exposed. Removing the OEM bumper brackets was easy and the Roadmaster part was easy to install. I did have to drill one extra hole in the Jeep frame, but that was easy and you are using a hole on the Roadmaster baseplate as a guide. I did have to cut a couple of areas on the plastic skid plate to allow access to the new base plates. I also did the wiring for the tail lights, going from the 6 pin at the front to the tail lights in the rear. The Jeep is pretty basic underneath and none of this was difficult. I initially used a Patriot 3 as my toad brake system, but after a few uses, the Patriot 3 quit working. I had a Roadmaster Invisibrake setup that was installed in my prior vehicle. I've just recently installed this in the Jeep. This was a little more challenging that the baseplate install. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would put the baseplate install at a 5, the Invisibrake a 7. I'm 69 years young.

I have the JL Rubicon and I had to trim the rock plate/ skid plate underneath to make the Roadmaster base plate fit . was not that big a deal and you can actually probably cut it with a grinder although I had somebody do it cut the skin plate for me. Pretty much easy install. Running the light wires and hooking them up was a little tricky. When I installed on the Ford pickup it was a little bit more difficult and I had a few more cuss words.
