Yes it is! Since the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11178 is a 1-1/4" hitch it is compatible with the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 1-1/4" Hitches # C45147. Since it sounds like you plan on towing, to add a wiring harness to your '01 BMW to power your trailer lights, you'll also need the Curt Upgraded Circuit Protected Powered Tail Light Converter # C59496.
